Look at one of the 27" 1440p monitors. Acer/Asus/Lenovo - all are decent.
My desktop monitor at home is an Acer XV272K, older model.

https://www.amazon.in/Acer-Backlight...s%2C614&sr=8-5

Above is the current model - use with 100% or 125% scaling. The 180Hz refresh rate makes a noticeable difference when scrolling/mousing around.

If budget isn't an issue, look at the 4K/120Hz LCD models, or the 1440P OLED models. OLED is good for movies/gaming, not the best for text - stick with LCDs if you're going to be doing more text-based work. Also, no danger of burn-in with LCDs.

I own the p2222h and p2422h by dell, both being the newer versions of the monitor you own , while the monitors are solid as their own product i dont think it would be that useful upgrading to a newer 1080p monitor.
MacOS no longer supports subpixel anti aliasing (windows still does in the form of microsoft cleartype) , if you use a hdmi cable for display output try switching to a displayport cable because i have noticed displayport output is a lot more sharper .Anti aliasing can be used only through monitors with a resolution greater than 4k.
For the best Display Output look for a monitor with a high PPI (pixels per inch ) and High Resolution and use a displayport cable to connect to it.
If your monitor has dell comfortview / dell warm setting and you havent switched that feature on , I would highly recommend turning it on and its made using the monitor for longer hours easier for me .
Nothing beats Readability on a Mac's own display though and when it comes to reading long documents i switch back to the display on the Mac.

I have been using the Samsung M8 Smart Monitor since a while now. Works well. Can be used as a proper 4K monitor as well as a smart TV.
Best part is the USB-C connectivity, works as a display port and also charges the laptop. Devices like keyboard / mouse can be connected to the monitor's usb ports and work with the laptop. Helps de-clutter. This monitor also has a webcam attached on top (detachable).

Re: Computer monitor recommendations?

I was in the same situation last year, searching for a monitor upgrade.

My Requirement was
- 32 inch IPS pannel
- 4K
- Budget (Not too costly)
- USB C support

With some research I came across below monitor which suits my need, using it since last one year, work flawlessly.

Lenovo L-Series L32p

https://www.amazon.in/Lenovo-Ultrasl...b7da09ca1&th=1

Computer monitor recommendations?-img_4087.jpg

Feature:
- 32 inch
- 4K IPS Pannel
- USB C support,

This monitor supports USB-C, currently using it with MacBook Pro M3. It provides charging capabilities, delivering up to 65 watts of power to the laptop. With a single USB-C cable, you can connect the display and charge the laptop simultaneously.

Re: Computer monitor recommendations?

I have been using a company provided LG 27'' 4k monitor with usb-c and pretty happy with it.
https://www.lg.com/in/monitors/uhd-4k-5k/27up850n-w/

I find the setup of M1 MacBook pro 16 connected to the 27'' to be pretty neat. The usb-c cable directly powers the laptop as well without a need to plugin laptop charger separately.

Prefer a 4k monitor and avoid FullHD or QHD monitors above 24'' sizes as the pixels are clearly visible. Dell has a few great monitors but are more expensive than LG ones.

24 is too small now. You need a 27 inch or 32 inch and 4K resolution.

I got this last month and it's been a god send. Sharp and you can zoom in more without losing sharpness.

https://amzn.in/d/d6MLRdl

In fact after getting the 27 inch I realised the 32 is a better buy: https://amzn.in/d/daNBXMO

This Viewsonic is also good: https://amzn.in/d/eIUMh1y

The new monitors have 65W USB-C connection which means one cable for display + power and you don't need HDMI + laptop charger. It's super convenient.

Re: Computer monitor recommendations?

^Have you tried one of the higher refresh-rate monitors? Helps in daily use as well, not necessarily only in games.

I got a Samsung M5 Smart monitor last year, 32 inch and fits perfectly in my work station. I normally use the HDMI cable to connect my office laptop but I can connect it wirelessly to my MacBook Air.
Its cost effective over the more advanced M8 which is a choice for people who want 4K resolution. Also who want to double it up as a spare TV. The M5 perfectly suits my work. Also my son uses it for his writing, projecting his iPad.
The quality is excellent.

I use two monitors both are quite good.
  1. https://amzn.in/d/bk9WUWP - this is pretty good for day to day use. Does not strain eyes, does it job pretty well.
  2. https://amzn.in/d/4aIGIMm - this is quite plush, besides office work, attending meeting you can use it as a smart TV as well using Amazon Fire TV stick or something similar.
Picture quality and usability is pretty good for both the models. Thanks.

If your work involves mainly "text", ie reading and writing text primarily, you can turn on "Night Light". Its much easier on the eyes. Turn it off for image based work.

(This plus the Eyes-Relax app works)

I've been using the same one for a couple of years now. Full VFM for work as well as the older classic games I play. Works well with the Windows and Macbook laptops we have at home. Pick it up at one of the online sales for an even sweeter deal.

PS: Only issue I found is that the inbuilt speakers are not loud enough. Not a deal breaker for me personally since I connect it to external speakers.

Re: Computer monitor recommendations?

I have recently upgraded my 27-inch full hd benq monitor to a Samsung 32" 4k monitor (SAMSUNG LU32J590UQPXXU) mainly because of the below reasons:

1. 32-inch 4k could accommodate more content on the screen, better for my work with code / aws etc.
2. The monitor supports two laptops at same time, split screen with 2 laptops. This has made my life really easier while working.
3. The new monitor supports display port-type - Type c, which I can use with mac & windows laptops.
4. 4k resolution really does make a difference, especially or larger monitor sizes.

While upgrading, I had the below options in the same price range:
1. 4k 32inch normal monitor
Pros: Good resolution, future proof, more than enough viewing area for office work and occasional movie.
cons: low refresh rate (60hz), not that great for gaming / content creation.

2. 34inch wqhd flat monitor:
pros: lot more horizontal screen area, good for gaming /content creation (144hz refresh rate, low response time)
cons: Weird screen aspect ratio for movies and most games, issues / scaling while sharing screen over teams, less vertical screen area, so not great for coding.

3. 34 / 42-inch curved monitor:
pros: Novelty of curved screen, a bit easier on the eyes, good refresh rates and response times.
Cons: Same as WQHD monitor, plus poor viewing angles from certain sides.

I would recommend you consider your needs (content creation / browsing / gaming / movies etc) and decide on a type of monitor that suits your needs, and then search for models with low response times and higher refresh rates.
If the monitor has a display port, you can get a type c - display port cable that can plug in directly to a windows / mac machine.
Most monitors do have eye care options. But benq monitors are really good at this, the old 27 inch monitor I had used to adjust its brightness and color temperature automatically with the background light in the room.

24" screens are too small to be used everyday, IMO. Especially for activities involving reading and writing text. 1080p is slightly too low a resolution, too, although depending on how far away from the screen you sit it might be tolerable. You also lose a lot of on-screen real estate with a 24" 1080p monitor as you would compared to a 27-32" 4K one.

I switched from a 24" IPS panel like this to a 27" 4K LG Ultrafine art display (Something like - https://www.amazon.in/LG-Ultrafine-I.../dp/B08CF478X6), and the difference was night and day for my use case of coding throughout the day and watching TV/videos at night.

If you can afford it, color accurate displays are pretty good even for non-gamers because better color reproduction affects everything from how good wallpapers, YouTube videos, TV shows etc. look to how software controls like F.lux, Windows Night Light, etc. affect the screen.

It's similar to the difference, minus HDR brightness and perfect-zero blacks, between looking at photos/videos on an iPad Pro or modern iPhone to something on an old budget or mid-range Android - except significantly amplified, because the screen is that much bigger and you spend so much more time looking at it. I don't use HDR even though my monitor supports it because the brights are way too bright and cause eye strain within 15-20 mins for me. I would like zero blacks, but I don't want to pay more than one lakh rupees for a monitor that I don't even use HDR on.

Re: Eye strain, check out F.lux that adjusts the color warmth depending on the time of day and your chosen color profile. Generally, warmer colors are easier on the eyes and, when applied after sunset, helps you sleep better. I've used it for close to a decade now. I don't like Night Light very much, although it's better than nothing. It switches on and off way too suddenly, unlike F.lux which changes colors much more smoothly, and also you can't choose the color temperature you want (so it ends up looking too yellow for my taste). Also, general things like taking a 5 min break every half an hour to an hour, looking at something far away or at least something other than the screen, etc. helps your eyes recover better.

Re: Computer monitor recommendations?

I have a 27 inch 4k Samsung and a Dell UltraSharp with a HDMI KVM switch for two laptops. IMHO Dell and Samsung offers superior quality. While Samsung is the master in LCD LED OLED technology somehow Dell has the best tuning of monitors in color accuracy etc. They also cost (UltraSharp range) usually more if you need a monitor for image and video editing where color accuracy and sharpness matters. Please try to spend a bit more and go for better quality monitors (should be flicker free/high refresh rates/less radiation thus less impact on eyes etc.) as these are going to be used 9-10 hours a day and eyes/vision are going to be affected in the long term with the low quality monitors. So investing in a really good brand and good quality monitor is always going to help your eyes in the long term.
