I was at Asian Grand Prix 2010 (which by the way is an athletics meet) and managed to do some sports photography. Still gotta process a lot, but here's one for now. He's Jai Prakash Shetty (Karnataka) silver medallist in the 200m Indian Grand Prix 2010 event.
Very good pic,

I was away for couple of days, understand the ongoing theme is backwaters but doesnt have any good ones. Here's a shot from Lalbagh, few more will follow once processed.

Preetam,

My setup was a white paper for background. The cup was placed about 10-15 cms from the background. I used one YN-460 flash that was triggered remotely by sonia trigger. Basically, I put the camera on timer (about 10 seconds), held the flash in one hand pointing at the bg and held a small object in the other hand to create the splash. It took a few attempts, but I did manage to get the splash right.

Thanks to all for the good words. I was actually testing my new tripod (Manfrotto 190XPROB/322RC2) and wireless remote with D90

@hellwrath, perfect composition.
@rjstyles69, I liked the cloudy mood in your shot. Lalbagh right?
@TG, Thanks. And you are not after sky these days isn't?

How can I improve this portrait? I have removed the colour, sharpened it and have re sized it. What else?

Just loved this shot. Inspiration to try some sports events. I missed this weekend completely, hope to catch up soon.

Lovely shots everyone, lots of quality pics coming up lately.

Thanks Hw, yeah it is the 70-210 lens in action. Your hole-idea is good but my brother wouldn't mind doing the same to one of my jeans most likely when I am wearing it.

Come on guys, what is this obsession with abstract. Abstract doesn't mean meaningless. Abstract is a symbolic representation of an idea. It is you who has to explain the idea behind it. If you have to ask others whether it is abstract, then it is meaningless.

If you form the idea, compose it and then click, then it is a composition. Abstract photography needs a very advance level of composition.

If you click first and then try to make sense out of it, it is called an ink-blot test.

To quote Ansel Adams, "There is nothing worse than a sharp image of a fuzzy concept."

Thanks Samurai, my idea of abstract photos has been changed drastically with all your inputs over time, earlier I believed that clicking some interesting patterns is abstract photography.
