Regarding the post processing debate, every pic out of a P&S camera is heavily PPed in camera.
With a DSLR, esp for RAW shooters, the pictures come out very dull as by default its not sharpened, contrast is not enhanced etc., etc.,

Are you a C++ programmer by any chance? :D

Here's one from my Ponmudi trip earlier this year.
Light was too bright, and the sky was completely bare of clouds. Still managed some decent shots.

Beautiful my friend! I just love the sky here! Flawless! Though you could have avoided those electric poles. I hate these structures. Landscape killers is what I call them.

Nice shot, great colors ripper. The poles don't look out of place either.

I guess he is talking about the area where the mountain meets the sky. Normally if one do PP for HDR then you can see a kind of bright artifact on the meeting point of the dark and bright places.[ This also happens for applying too much of USM and may be many other reasons] One need to be careful not to make it too exaggerated. BTW, I'm neither against PP[any RAW file needs a minimum amount of PP] and nor I'm saying that this picture have that issue. It looks to have that issue but I'm not so sure. May be veterans like Rudra Sir will be able to through more light.

But Samurai [please don't feel bad for a lil' harsh critique], the photograph is not good, it lacks many things e.g. point of interest,strong foreground, composition etc etc.And also colors are very much muted. I've seen much better photographs from you.

about the ponmudi shot, the telephone poles, I left there because I thought it would substitute for a subject. otherwise the pic would have become too plain.

But,I agree with you, the power lines and telephone lines are everywhere in india, and its impossible to get a decent shot. why dont they start putting these cables underground?

Thanks, harsh comments are fine with me, that's how one can learn, I do the same thing to others:). I am constantly experimenting with composition, sometimes they work, sometimes they fall flat. In this I tried to expose the sun correctly, that means everything got underexposed, the entire field was in the shadows which I tried to recover in PP, but not very successfully. In this shot there isn't any one object of interest. I tried to show the entire view in the way human eye looks. Basically I was trying to break the rules of composition.

@torqueguru : Nice shot. As ripper mentioned you could've straightened it.

@rippergeo : Nice shot again. Why do you say there is no color in it?

Straying from conventions once in a while....Part of randomness in people i guess :)

@torqy-I thought, the scene is quite dreary. grey rocks, grey skies, dull green grass(which I worked on a little to bring some life in the pic)
its the kind of place you'd like to go to when you're depressed and want to get more depressed.


OTOH, here is a pic from the same day i think, on my way back home from Malham Tarn. lot more colour, and the light had improved.
