True,samurai. The shack wasn't well lit,and we were in a corner of the room. Had no choice,but to use the flash. Tried taking the pic from a distance,but that didn't pick up the details as well as a close up shot.

Please give me honest opinions everyone. Any criticism will only help me to learn.
How should have the picture been taken?
Or should i PS it and blur the rest and focus on the meal?

I wanted it to look natural, as in from real life and not messed around with to take a picture.
So just took a picture when i felt like it and left everything the way it was.

Here is a brighter version with some editing. Is it any good?

I personally would choose this one over the first one. Though am all in favour of unaltered images, the original picture was just any picture, with no subject.

The PS version takes your eyes straight to the choc muffin (is that what it is?), and the empty glass... in other words it limits it to within the tray.

And, IMO, the photo could have been better if taken from "eye-level" of the glass/choc muffin or slightly above.

Some other people (photographers) on this forum have a great eye for the right composition. Perhaps, there inputs are needed.

Taken by Sony W55 - 7.2 MegaPix - Breakfast in Surrey ( UK ) a few months back

I have reduced the file from 2.4 MB to 50 kb or so.

Its flash that bounced off the water.

Excellent shot sks_biker, but a small flaw.
The exposure time is too less for second. I suggest you use the lowest ISO, and use an aperture like F8. This will mean long exposure time, which will smooth the reflections in the water.

Hmm, the aperture used was f/5.6. I did not want to push it further as the picture was taken handheld (with support of a small tree nearby).
