Pointers here please- I have a Canon 650 Powershot camera, and I'd like to take some pics like these. Its got a whole lot of settings, and I know I need to play around with the cam a bit.
Try these settings
Camera: Canon 400D
Lens: Sigma 70-300mm DG Macro
Handheld

Original

This ones croped one.

Shutter speed: 1/160
Apature: f/5.6
White Balance: Florocent

Moon is pretty bright object so when you are focusing it directly then you need to keep the shutter speed on higher side so that you can ristrict the amount of light that reaches the sensor. By ristricting the amount of light entering the camera you senson captures more of the darker parts of moon Try the above setting and let us know the result.

I call it artistry. A lot of TBHP-ians get some excellent shots. But apart from one good old man here who stands head and shoulders above us, I am not able to recollect who else gets such good shots, with such frequency.

Keep Shooting !

thanks mobilke008 and gkrishn,

It was at the Lalbagh flower show that happens during the republic day and independence day. The flower show during independence day is much better, since its the flowering season.

Superb pleasing colors RJ... Assuming no PS done on this snap, it is a masterpiece shot. Superb composition. And more so, you decided to go for a Portrait shot... Excellent mate...
