WOW! Fantastic Pictures.

I was with birding fanatics when I shot mine, they said these are very rare to find so we are both very fortunate to have seen them.

Some say they are there in good numbers, bit elusive and camouflage. Also saw many fishing owls and Brahmini Kites, they are very common. I think it is better to crop this pic.

I was in Gulbarga/ Kalburgi recently and these were taken at the Jama Masjid inside the Gulbarga Fort from my mobile phone..

The kid was sitting on the longest cannon in the world and the photo was taken through what I presume was the scope of the cannon.

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

I am currently working on a blog (still on the assembly line). As you all probably know, the images on this forum are rendered with some noticeable artefacts. This is not a new issue because I have been noticing them for a long time, but it's painful to see the images not looking great after spending hours perfecting them.

It would be really useful to know if there is a way around it.

Yea, a cross we have to bear for the convenience of faster webpage loading!

As you'd already be aware, higher resolution quality of image will give better clarity for a given size of the display. For uploading to websites, we do have to typically lower the resolution (and file size) that invariably messes with clarity and adds those artifacts - depending also on the s/w used for compression where some give more control than others.

png compressions are relatively less lossy that way. Maintaining the files to 24-bit subsequent to compression might help as well.

I am not sure there's any other method except hosting them on specific sites at peak resolution.

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Clicked this "situation" picture on the way to office today from inside my Vento.
May look amusing to somebody, but highlights the gross negligence on part of the concerned person - could be a Labour contractor in this case, or folks trying to hitchhike a long distance ride. And putting their lives in gross danger!

May the "Lord" (seen in foreground) protect such souls from imminent danger.

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Was prepared to shoot the PSLV C43 launch today from my terrace in Chennai, but the clouds played truant, so had to be satisfied with this consolation prize: A Black Indian Kite with a "leg piece" soared close by. Nikon D610 + Tamron 150-600mm..

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Quite a few people and journos assemble at this place called the pulicat lake just outside of Sriharikota - easily driveable from Chennai - to get good pictures of the rocket launches.

I don't know how the lake is these days, but there used to be a bird sanctuary associated with it.

I spent some time here and could spot the tip of the rocket sitting at its launchpad from my home rooftop. Back then I didn't have a camera with manual controls, but will try and plan a visit sometime during a scheduled launch event.

Nice pictures on the page. Loved them all - particularly the joyous abandon of the kid and family on the canon tube - a story just writes itself!

This picture captures the essence of Marghazhi Masam (starting on Dec 16th) in Chennai, lovely cool climate on Vaikunta Ekadesi (18-12-2018) morning (Nikon D610+Nikkor 24-120mm f/4 VR)..

Clicked some macros today, with my aging gear (Minolta 70-210mm) & DCR250 mounted on macro rails.

A very small spider found in the garden - body length less than 5mm.

Moss, found on a damp brick. Each leaf is less than a millimeter.

Where was this picture taken? I am looking for a place near Bangalore where one can paddle a surfski or a K1. Thanks!
