Ok, don't talk to me about blue skies. I haven't seen them in weeks, all I have is light grey sky when it is not raining, and dark grey when it is raining.

Today morning I ventured out in light grey sky, no rain and no sun. But 10 minutes into the photo-shoot, sun came out and spoilt the scene.

The sky looks washed out because, it is washed out in real too. But, I think I should have kept the EV at -.7 or -1 value. The E3 metering is something I am yet to figure out, recently I applied an update that changed the behavior a little. Anyway, I am not too happy about the final output. I'll have to try these again with -1EV.





These is 3ft height difference between the front and rear tyres.

Good shot V12, thats a swell bike, but the shot has too much scenery

I took this special shot just for you by underexposing by 1 F-stop. Here the sky has both dark grey sky and the usual light grey sky. Therefore, the sky tends to look overexposed all the time. Next 3 months don't expect properly exposed sky from me.

I have only sharpened this with USM, no other PP.

That's what happens when raw files posted without PP.

Now with PP, but this is not a good compo since I shot it for demonstrating the overexposing nature of monsoon sky.



Tried this new composition, let me know whether it works. Right after this shot I had to run away to escape the rain, the dark sky wasn't kidding.

I'm not any good at auto photography, but here's what I thought about the last pic.
the innards of the jeep's suspension and steering setup are not very pretty and should be kept out of view as far as possible, the only exception being when the same shot also lets us see how much GC it has.

in this last pic, you can see the rods and chassis, but not the GC. so it doesnt work for me. wonder what the experts think.

you're right about the monsoon skies. its very difficult if the sun is peeking out somewhere.

Actually I was trying show the suspension and steering. This is supposedly a macho Jeep, you have to show the tough side. For example, if you want show the profile of rough-n-tough Clint Eastwood, how would you do it? Clean shaven Clint Eastwood in a suit, or with an unshaven dirty ugly mug of his?

In the second shot, I am trying to get this Jeep to say "You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya punk?"

Now that I see it again, doesn't that Jeep profile resemble Client Eastwood?

I'm an absolute amateur at photography but one of the things I like in Jeep / SUV pictures is a rear / three quarters view of the vehicle with a view of the obstacle about to be conquered. Hope that makes sense.

Samurai, in your picture above, only the tyres look rugged / unshaven. The rest of the Jeep looks clean shaven & in a suit.

very nice set of pics, love the skies, and exposure is good (under the given circumstances).

by the way, how did you manage to park the jeep in that incline (over exposed sky shot), even if it engaged in gear (assuming that it doesn't have a functional hand brakes), it looks like a steep an incline to be stationary on its own.

That I already admitted, I should have dialed the EV down. E3 has a skewed dynamic range, it has lot more head room in the shadows and very little in the highlights. So if I overexpose, the highlights get totally burnt. But I can get back a lot from the shadow areas. But I feel the Jeep itself is exposed well I think.

I stopped there in 1st low, and slowly let go the brakes. It looked very settled, I even shook the Jeep to see whether it was stable. Then I got out and shot the pics. Since it was not slippery, I could take that risk.

@furious - first shot needs a little bit of reduction of contrast in my opinion. Try out de-saturating the background keeping the car coloured - should turn out good i guess.
Second shot is lovely - a bit of editing on the sky and cropping should make a perfect picture !
