Hello, admire your decision to stop kibble and switch to home made food, your recipe looks alright other than cooked chicken with bones, bones in cooked chicken will splinter and cause internal injuries so give only boneless cooked chicken.

You can add chicken feet and bone broth as snacks to the diet, you will get recipe on YouTube for how to prepare chicken feet and bone broth as treat for dogs it's very easy process and a healthy treat, you can give them as snacks in morning and evening.

Chick peas are ok for dogs no issues with that, you can also add some organ meat like liver, kidney, heart or muscle meat like gizzard once in a while to the diet as food toppers if easily available at your place.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Bengaluru folks, a friend wants to know if there are any good vets who can perform cataract surgery on a 13.5-year strong good boy.

Any leads appreciated.

Mishti is a female maltipoo who has never been given any milk or milk products. She isn't very greedy for food except for chicken especially with bones.

Daily diet Recipe

Either Boiled Chicken with bones/ Steamed Fish without bones / Boiled Eggs with crushed egg shells (2)
Pumpkin
Carrots
Green Peas
Turmeric
Cinnamon powder
Ginger
Boiled Rice
Boiled Sweet Potato
Boiled Potato
little salt

Are chick peas (chole) and corn good to be added to the food? Or any other pulses?

I have a Beagle, now 8 and I have been following the below diet for him since years.

(1) Post morning walk: Summers: 1-2 tbsp curd + cold water + chopped seasonal fruits. Winters: Half a cup steamed grated carrots with1-2tbsp milk+ topped with warm water

(2) Breakfast: 1st course: Chicken / de-boned fish + Roti. 2nd Course: Vegetable Mix with 1-2tbsp dry dog food kibbles as supplement

Vegetable Mix is prepared once and stored in fridge/freezer and contains Pumkin, Beetroot, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Carrots, Peas, Beans, or whatever is available as per season + a little bit of all types of daals. All these steamed, added turmeric, egg shell powder.

(3) Evening Meals (5pm): 1st Course: Daal (without salt) + half Roti. 2nd Course: Oats (prepared in 2 parts water and 1 part milk) + rice

(4) Late Evening snack: Paneer / Tofu / sweet potato / boiled egg / or whatever

I mostly feed him over cooked chicken necks. Neck pieces have flesh and bones both and the bones are soft and do not have splinters.

Delhi Couple Leaves Dog At Pet Boarding, He Goes Missing, Later Found Dead
https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/delh...d-dead-6892508

Quote:
The dog, Milo, is dead and a chilling video showing two bike-borne dragging him by the leash will forever haunt the family. The family has alleged one of them is a staff of the pet boarding. They have said Milo was made to run beside the bike. At some point, the dog broke free and ran away. He was found dead the next day, presumably due to a road accident.
And the owner of pet boarding says:

Quote:
Yes, one of them beat it up, but what could he do if the dog was aggressive? Then the dog escaped. People have already declared that we murdered the dog. I haven't even charged them for the 17-day stay," she said

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

This one is indeed a welcome move !

The timing to introduce trained therapy dogs at Mumbai airport's T2 terminal from Friday onwards is ‘pawfect', since several flights have been delayed due to bomb hoax calls, leading to enraged, stressed-out passengers. But imagine waiting for a long time in the departures lounge due to a delay when you see a wagging furry dog in front, with the words ‘Pet Me' printed on the collar.

I hope I don’t indulge so much with them to miss my flights some day.

That's the worst nightmare for a pet lover. We have here a dedicated group of people who does fostering whenever someone travels out of station and the best is we know the individual personally to let him have the responsibility of our special kids.

Right now I’m fostering this super active girl for few weeks.

Beautiful puppy on the golf course yesterday. The older dog may be the mother but Im not sure.
Was sorely tempted to bring him home but am no longer able to manage more than one dog. And mine is an ‘only dog’ - she may not take to having another one to share her space with.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Have you all heard of Lysine 100 immunity booster? The vet said it is highly recommended for young cats, especially ones that go outdoor.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Pet foods are formulated to be attractive to people.

One of my cats is on a prescription food to treat a bladder stone. Such a diet has to recommended by a vet, and may well be worth it (I hope so). As to all the other stuff like this that will attract all the human health freaks, colour me sceptical!

Strengthen The Immune System!

It's been a popular cry for several decades. What actually strengthens immune systems? Vaccinations, that's a big one. Catching diseases which are hard to catch twice, because, just like vaccination, the immune system then learns about them. Cats and dogs should eat at least two oranges and three apples every day.

I made up the last one.

Unless there is some medical condition preventing it, immune systems just work. With an occasional helping hand such as vaccinations.

Don't feed the marketing man .

I use lysine supplement for my cats. Human grade lysine supplement powder is available at a fraction of the cost in Amazon etc.
Just a pinch mixed with wet food a few times a week is all that is needed. It is a tasteless powder so my ultra taste sensitive cats don't even know.

Did some Googling. There are conflicting reports about Lysine. It is apparently very popular recommendation by vets and has shown promise under 'experimental' studies. But there are also studies that show that it is ineffective
https://www.petmd.com/cat/general-he...ysine-for-cats

Quote:
Unfortunately, there is conflicting information as to whether giving a cat lysine will help with respiratory health. Veterinarians have historically recommended lysine for cats to help combat the effects of FHV-1. But in recent years, there have been numerous studies determining lysine is not effective in preventing or treating FHV-1 in cats.

Under experimental conditions, lysine was able to decrease the amount of viral shedding, thus decreasing the chance that FHV-1 would spread to other cats. However, in recent studies of natural infections of FHV-1, lysine was shown not to be effective. In fact, lysine may actually increase the amount of viral shedding and cause FHV-1 symptoms to get worse.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

This little fellow seems to have been abandoned by it's mother (what age are kittens left to fend for themselves usually?) and was found mewing away in our open storage room out back a few weeks back.

It's slowly started getting comfortable around us and is a joy to see it play around in the garden.

Still wary, it will run like a ball of black & white lightning back to the safety of the storage room where it has lots of nooks and crannies to hide away.

Have to get it vaccinated i guess.

The photos were taken today morning as it was following me around demanding for food

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Lovely kitten!

Cats may not actually chase them away at any time, but they will eventually get fed up with breast feeding, and push the children away when they try.

2 to 3 months. This one looks 2 months old to me.

A must if you intend to let it go outside. Recommended schedule:

- TRICAT (3 in 1) vaccine to be given immediately
- After one month, tricat booster shot + Rabies shot
- Rabies booster shot after one month

As long as a kitten is drinking mother's milk, it will have an immunity shield. Time starts ticking for an outdoor kitten as soon as mother weans the kitten off milk.

I guess this depends on the street cat's personality and also the environment. If the Queen has a large territory with plenty of food, it will abandon the kittens and hang around in the next block. But if safe territory with plentiful food is limited, she might hang around in the same area but give the kittens a hiss like this (Kitten photo, but you get the idea) whenever they meet:

Team-BHPians and their Pets-20241218_084359-1.jpg

By the way, this mother cat seems to have lost half its tail. Any guesses as to what might have happened?

Team-BHPians and their Pets-20241219_162202.jpg

I'm hoping this will not affect her hunting or climbing/jumping skills.
