Trim down the hair around the eyes, it looks a lot. Take some warm water add boric acid and clean the eyes with cotton/cloth, dab the warm water, till the hard crust is loose and then slowly remove it/clean it. Sometimes the debris/gunk will accumulate at the corner of the eyes, which again needs to be cleaned, else they will block the tear duct and cause more problems to the eyes.

Such breeds are prone to formation of hard crusts around the eyes, it's necessary to regularly keep cleaning their eyes and keep your furry friend happy.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

People providing tap water to animals should try to provide filtered water to pets and strays whenever possible. There is no such thing as clean tap water anywhere these days. Unless it is from a stream high up in the mountains from melted snow right at the top where there are no humans.

It makes a drastic difference to the health of the animals and the results are quick to be seen. Less hairfall, less itching/scratching, less gastro problems, less infections etc.

Tap water has its own ingredients detrimental to health, however high the claim from the providing source maybe about it being drinkable.

So very true, I being in middle east, We get bottled water for human drinking and initially I used to give tap water to my furr babies, till one day I realised, that if I can't drink the tap water for obvious reasons, the furr babies also can't have them. Since then, they also get treated water.

This is the result, with shiny glowing hair

Happy to be corrected! I'd read about the whiskers thing also but totally forgotten, you're right! Thank you so much for keeping water for the strays. With summer coming its really needed and we used to keep water in earthen pots for them. Unfortunately some people use them as dustbins.

My suggestion would be to use "wet food" as snacks as that in itself would contain water or liquid. From commercially available food, Purina (or any better brand from Mars) has these wet food pouches, and you could add a splash of water on top. I used them for feeding the kittens in office.

Better still would home cooked wet food as in a mishmash of protein and veg cooked to a slurry like consistency. Of course The Highness could sniff and look away and render all this moot.
I think it depends on the cat. Both our pet kittens drink a lot of water and stray cat back home in India used to do same too. We started keeping a more accessible water bowl for her as we saw her dangerously leaning sipping water from an overhead tank. For our kittens we do have wet food but they still like to drink water, especially after their meal.. I was surprised too.

On an unrelated note, any tips for kitten that is extremely shy, afraid of new humans? One of our kitten absolutely loses his s**t every time someone comes to the house, or there is even a knock on the door (Amazon/UPS/Pizza delivery). He hides for hours if someone else is in the house apart from us especially if there are kids. In general he's afraid of loud sounds, sudden movements, doors/windows being opened, you name it.

We are wondering if there is something we can do to make him open up. Currently we leave him alone and have accepted as his personality. His brother is quite okay with all this and isn't bothered. Kinda amazing how different they are.

I knew a similar cat at a friend's place. A total of 6 cats, out of which this one was the very shy one. Always hiding under the bed or wherever he felt secure. If there are guests, he would just stare at them from a secret place.

I used to visit almost everyday and was able to make him comfortable just to sniff my hand and then get back to his secret hiding places. I always suspected he had some vision issues because the pupils would always be dilated too much. But the friend never got him checked and the cat continued to be a shy cat as long as I was there.
The other 5 cats were like kings & queens roaming here and there all the time.

Cats take a lot of time getting friendly and comfortable but IMHO sometimes there is some inherent issue that we are not able to find out about. Maybe it is stomach problem, maybe eye sight or some other small stuff constantly bothering the animal not letting it to become comfortable. I hope your cat is just extremely shy by nature and no other issue is there.

A shy cat is a safe cat! I'm very happy that my cats are shy of strangers. Although it does amuse me that the fellow in my avatar looks like a big, tough bruiser of a tom cat, but is actually a scaredy cat!

Those are some good leads. He does look at people secretly. In fact he even looks at us creepily from the shadows- we call him CIA operative. His brother will be sleeping with not a worry in the world and this guy will be up keeping an eye on us.

From the outset his vision looks fine (to me) he reacts to slight movements, occasional insects and just anything happening in his peripheral vision. Chasing and swatting tiny insects is his favorite thing. I will get him checked at the vet in any case.. hopefully he's just extremely twitchy and shy by nature.

I knew cats are shy while getting the kittens (compared to puppies/dogs) but I wasn't expecting this level of shyness. He's the shy-est cat I have ever seen more than the strays we had. I do agree it plays in their favor but is it normal for indoor cats too?

Lest we forget, cat tax below. Our not-shy kitten licking the sunlight.

I feed a cat currently which looks exactly like yours. She was very shy as well till 2 months back, when I had started feeding her. Slowly she gained confidence and now literally talks with me a lot with all her meows and purrs too while allowing her to pet for as long as I want. Initially she used to keep at least a metre distance from me for approx a month or so even though I used to feed her twice daily.

The panel has identified 23 breeds of dogs, including mixed and cross breeds, as ferocious and also dangerous for human lives.

Pitbull Terrier, Tosa Inu, American Staffordshire Terrier, Fila Brasileiro, Dogo Argentino, American Bulldog, Boerboel Kangal, Central Asian Shepherd Dog and Caucasian Shepherd Dog are among the breeds sought to be banned from the Centre.

Other breeds include South Russian Shepherd Dog, Tornjak, Sarplaninac, Japanese Tosa and Akita, Mastiffs, Terriers, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Wolf Dogs, Canario, Akbash Dog, Moscow Guard Dog, Cane Corso and Bandog.

"...the above dog breeds, including crossbreeds, shall be prohibited for import, breedings, selling as pet dogs and other purposes," the letter said, quoting the recommendations of the expert panel.

That is true of outdoor cats. But with full time indoor cats, it is best to socialise early to have a better adjusted and confident cat. With a cat that is calm, the chance of an accidental scratch is much less( like when it is startled suddenly). Also if yours is a breed cat and you intend to take her to cat shows etc, then it is essential for the cat to be of a sound temperament. The cat should be confident enough to play when the judge come along with a string toy
I have too many cats anyway but about 5-6 of them are cool even if a dozen strangers walk right by them, or when a cracker goes off, while with a few others, they will panic and run off or hide. Totally different personalities. But then that is why we need so many cats isn't it. All look same but very different!

Yes bengals. Not frm same litter, all totally different.
Most bengal litters I had over time averaged around 3 kittens.
Once I had a litter of 9 but they were premature and only 2 survived.
A pic of one of the survivors, a handsome cat now. Playing with his mom( the dark one)
