Maybe keep a bowl of water that you keep refilling every day.

Trust you don't have any complaining neighbors - that seems to be quite common these days even if they aren't really impacted.
Guys the puppies are here I woke up early morning hearing them squealing ! She had 8 puppies in total. Last one to born is a little weak and it wasn't breathing after birth. The mumma dog licked it vigorously and he's ok now !
Yes my parking is covered completely so no exposure to elements, with 3 sides being wall compound, entrance to home and a front gate. I've placed 4 - 5 jute bags for them. I informed my neighbors , and luckily they're completely fine. One of the neighbor even wants to adopt one of the puppies.

You are absolutely right I just provide her food and protect her from other stray dogs trying to attack her. There were few at my gate, barking at her and puppies. But she stood up to them before I could shoo them away. Motherly instincts are very strong ! I will share some pics soon, as I'm keeping my distance from her and puppies for few days.

Congratulations. In the world of social media (especially reddit), there's something called as 'pet tax'. You get help with regards to pets, you need to pay a 'tax' by sharing pics of the pet(s). Especially relevant when talking about puppies or kittens

Sadly, the runt of the litter didn't make it through the first night. He was too weak, and just didn't latch on to her. It was heartbreaking to take it away from her. Others are doing well, she's now calmed down a bit. She did try to jump on me today but a firm no took care of that.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Here is my baby now at 6 months old now. He is growing up fast, but is a very picky eater.
Team-BHPians and their Pets-img_20210909_195428.jpg

He is quite smart and probably ahead in intellect (street smart) compared to my Lab which we had earlier. He got toilet trained fully at 4 months and always gets what he wants. He has even learnt to open the barricade on the stairs that we had to stop him from going up the stairs!

We went on a vacation with him (4 hours drive) to a place called Welcomheritage Inderpura resort recently (it is pet friendly) and he ended up puking both while coming and going. Seems like he has a bit of travel sickness. Any recommendations on suitable medications we can give him? Our Lab never had any issue so we are facing this first time.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Guys, today morning my cat was panting heavily with his tongue out and I thought he's choking on something. I quickly patted on his back repeatedly and to my horror, he vomited a lot. He had eaten durva grass used in Ganesh puja ! Any reason why he would have eaten that grass ? I feed him only whiskas cat food and boiled chicken. He may have eaten some of pedigree dog food from the bag which I forgot to close properly. He's looking fine now, no sign of stress or tiredness, I'm still keeping an eye on him though.

It is not uncommon to find cats eating grass. Cats are believed to do this to get their indigestion issues sorted. Throwing up is also natural. Cats tend to feel better with this. So, there's nothing to worry about.

^^+1 to what @Emvi said.

Puking and grass eating are quite common for cats. Multiple reasons seen for puking - over eating or fast eating, hair balls (in puked food), indigestion, etc. Be on the look out if this continues over a day.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Guys, any effective remedies for ticks in dogs?

My pet streetie collects a lot of these when out on walks, especially in rainy season, and it becomes a pain to get rid of them one by one. Smelly oils are not an option as my dog feels uneasy due to the smell.

I've heard good things about Himalaya Erina Tick & Flea shampoo. Has anyone tried it on their pets?

You may also try NOTIX anti tick and flea powder.

We regularly use Erina EP shampoo on our Milo (once in two weeks) when we bathe him. It does help kill the ticks and fleas which are a big problem in monsoon times. Apart from that I also use Vi-fi (Vivaldi forte) dab on and apply it on his mane ( the dosage is weight specific, so please order as per your dog's weight). That is also effective and tends to work for 30-45 days (though they claim 3 months).
Using both of these has worked fine with us to keep our dog free from ticks and fleas.
Also apart from this, brush them with a good metal brush/ comb at least once a week. This also helps check for any hidden fleas (like in ear area/ between toes).

Ask for "Spot on" at a pet store - this is a small pipette of fipronil to be applied near the shoulder blade/neck are where they cannot lick it (make sure to part the hairs and apply on the skin). They have no odour.
It is effective for around a month's duration.
Dosage is based on the dog's weight range (upto 10kg /10-20kg etc.).

For my dog when it was a pup/adolescent I'd tried the tick powder + shampoo+tick spray, all from Himalaya but, had not found it very effective - there were a few instances when I'd seen a tick/flea.
Post that switched to "spot on", must say it has been extremely effective. No instances of tick/ fleas on him.

We continue to use the Himalaya shampoo for his bath. But, cannot comment on its efficacy against ticks, since we also apply spot on on an almost monthly basis (30-40 day range).

Ticks are super dangerous. A friend's dog recently died from tick fever.
We have a Cocker Spaniel and give her the Bravecto pill once a quarter. Super effective. She had a massive tick infestation but its down to 0 since she is on Bravecto.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Thanks everyone for the valuable suggestions. Never knew ticks could be so dangerous. I'll consult my local vet asap and proceed with the treatment.
