What can we possibly do to solve this problem assuming other fellow residents are not bothered? (continue to feed it within the building area and not in a designated spot outside)Since this dog is staying put what options do we have? Can we call an NGO and have the dog rehabilitated/shifted. Happy to bear all costs. Welcome to all suggestions.
I would suggest you put Cleo in your car and drive him to a place where he can take a peaceful walk. As impractical as this may sound but pets are a part of our family. Given there are no proper solutions I would have done the same.

Like boxers everywhere, Kluso & Pearl are loaded with idiosyncrasies, a very disarming one being their attachment to squeaky toys.

Chances are slowly your dog would get used to smelling him and visa versa; so they can acknowledge and reduce the threat factor. It's not a fool-proof solution but it could work without any drastic actions to be taken. Give it a try.

It has every detail you would need.

Few pointers that may come in handy is that if some residents are feeding the stray dogs, they are fully allowed to do so, but at a place avoiding crowded areas, and not littering in the process. Also they should come forward and get the dog vaccinated & sterilized.

Also it is strictly not allowed to relocate / shift / drive away stray dogs from their natural habitat.

what is the short term solution for the problem OP is facing? - elaborated in my earlier post. Separate the path and territory of the 2 dogs.

arranging for a pickup to an animal shelter / NGO is the best solution in the short term. - that's illegal.

but this way at least the dog would be safe. - that's a pipe dream. Most NGOs take the money and kill the dog. That's the harsh truth.
Really appreciate all your responses. Absolutely agree with all the points you have made. They make a lot of sense. The point about NGO's is news to me.

I wish people were more responsible with respect to feeding strays in designated areas, taking care of their shots and neutering them etc.

We were very angry a week ago. We are going to try to befriend the dog.

Thanks once again!

Sad stories...

A boy and his cat. Boy loves cat and cat loves boy. Boy has developed an allergy to cats which is not trivial, and is affecting his breathing.

I can't even think of taking the cat. I have three already, none of whom were invited. I can't face a fourth, and I can't face trying to get an established group to accept an outsider.

Anyone in Chennai want a ready-made cat?

I have a quite pronounced form of cat scratch & cat dander allergy - didn't stop me from keeping upto 6 cats at a point of time.
Yes - breathing troubles due to allergies are quite severe, and sadly the cat and his master must part ways.
Wish I could have help anyway.

How old is the cat? Can you share any pics, and details? I'll share within the network.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

The different colors of canine social behavior, with Kluso & Pearl in their usual starring roles. The thought that they may not be there tomorrow (or God forbid, that we may be gone, leaving them orphaned) is numbing.

My beautiful kind hearted Lab Daisy passed on in Feb 2018. My lovely and naughty Alsatian Cassie who had hip dysplasia and who we looked after with a lot of care in her last one year, passed on in June 2018.
Both my lovely dogs went to Heaven.
And we were left here.

In end- December 2018 while I was cycling about in the early morning near my house I saw a lovely little black and tan Indie puppychild sitting near a local tea shop and she came gambolling towards me to play. Just then a horrible damned early school bus went at speed past her and it was a narrow miss.

I dropped the cycle picked up the small puppy and brought her home.
First I thought I would look after her and re home her.

But then I said to myself why?
I love dogs.
And mine are all gone now.
So I will keep this heaven sent little one.

I call her Simba, Devil and/ or Zilf, depending on my mood at the time.

She is the new child in the house and has eaten and ripped apart more things than I can even bother to remember.

She was ~ 2 months old when I brought her in.

She is now 10 months old.

And a more lovely kind hearted little four legged furry pal I am yet to see.

I thank God most humbly that this beautiful
Little Creature came to me.

If there is a God, and I find myself doubting more every single day, then I hope s/he blesses you Shankar for saving her from the streets and giving her a good life. And sorry for your loss and I hope you get to see Daisy and Cassie one day again.

Sorry to hear of your double loss. Simba looks like a bright spunky character. Quite big for 10 months (but I know little about dogs). All the best.

PS: we miss you on the aircraft scale model thread. Last we knew you had the Red Baron Tri-decker fighter.
