Nice ! I think that was what you could have done. Squirrels are rodents, and prey for the cat. And since this one was un-tamed, it could have hurt you - the teeth are sharp.

Well it's done. The poor fellow was really scared and still a baby. More than his teeth, he had sharp nails but he didn't do (or even try) while I held him lightly for more than 3-4 minutes, before letting him do.

And boy was my cat pissed off or what - kept crying all over the house for the next 15-20 minutes

That was one happy experience that you had. And I am keeping fingers crossed that the squirrel reaches adulthood safely. Apart from cats they are also prey for birds of prey, like shikras. I have earlier posted photos of the two (a young squirrel & a shikra) in close proximity, with the shikra making several unsuccessful attempts to snatch the squirrel from the tree trunk, where it kept dodging the attacks. As someone posted subsequently, the shikra too must have been young & lacked the necessary hunting skills!

I know exactly what you mean! My cat once climbed halfway up a coconut tree to catch a squirrel and brought it home. It was still alive. Mom tried to help the squirrel but she (our cat) was pissed and nearly attacked mom! We finally decided to leave things to nature.

Its been ages since I've seen a squirrel in our yard

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Rescuing small creatures from cats is a tough decision. It must be done before the cat has done major damage... or it is kinder to let the cat finish it off.

One success story I will never forget was the sparrow I took back to the garden. As I opened my hands, I could see in its eyes, "I'm going to die.... I'm going to die... Oh! No I'm not!" And it flew away.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Folks looking for any inputs on doing long distance with cats and introducing them to a new home, give me a holler; just did a Mumbai - Chennai drive and currently settling them at my hometown place. Also done this in the past twice, so I guess I have some experience on this matter now

On a side note, I must say my cats are like Velociraptors - they are literally checking out every window, every door, every nook and corner for any weakness that they can use to escape the new place!

Where did you source a Bengal cat from? Isnt it very rare in our country? I just love Bengals for their intelligence and due to the fact that they look like a baby Tiger or Leopard. If I manage to find one, I want to home it someday. Please share details of how you got the cat.

Yes they are rare in india. Some cats are there in mumbai and hyderabad, but not good quality and no pedegree. Mine are from the famous gogees and wild africa lines, but quality comes at a price, i cant speak of prices etc here but I will just say I cud have got a RE thunderbird for the price for my pair
But yes they are very entertaining, and they are some big and muscular cats

Hi Joe,

Did you find a good Lab puppy, I am trying to find one since last three months and all I get is puppy mill products where sometime there are 2-3 re sellers and nobody has any idea about Sire, Dam. We are looking for a chocolate pup, please let me know if you come across one from a good breeder where we can see Sire and Dam and have KCI papers.

Thanks
