Daft as they are, we wouldn't change them for all the gold in the world.
I completely agree with you, Shashankna. 'Half circuit missing' is an apt description.

The problem with boxers is that they look so intimidating, which coupled with the propensity to jump when someone tries to pat them, restricts their opportunity to socialise with people. Unless someone is a genuine lover of boxers and is prepared for a mauling, others get put off. Sad!

Incidentally, Pablo, the owner of (P)awsome Wisdom, is quite happy to allow other boxers to share their wisdom on his site.

Urgent help for Labrador

Hi, I need urgent help here regarding health issues with one of my friend's lab. He is 6 yrs old male diagnosed with cancer. I don't have any knowledge on this but doctors told that it's some rare kind of and not certain on the positive outcomes of the treatment. Presently he is on heavy antibiotics and attached is his lab report done yesterday. I'll really appreciate any guidance on the alternative therapy (like some of you mentioned Ayurveda on pets in this thread) as well. He is located in Bangalore.

Thanks,
Pradip.

Hello Pradip, I fully sympathize with your friend's lab's condition. I would have loved to help but we are unable to do very much now. I had mentioned in an earlier post that our vet (Dr. Bhatnagar) passed away a few years back. He specialized in Ayurvedic treatments for pets together with mainstream vet practice.

I am hoping that someone can suggest another vet. doctor who also practices ayurvedic treatment.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Need advice from fellow dog owners. My 14 month old lab has this type of infection on his entire skin leading to scratching and hair loss. Vet gives him antibiotics everytime but these reoccur after some duration. I strongly feel it's because of some food allergy or some substance that he comes in contact on his walk. Once I gave him Neem oil massage followed by bath but it didn't help much. Anyone knows what I can do here?

Try oatmeal shampoo. Also give him half tablet of levocetrizine (vozet) for one day and see if he improves. Ketoconaxole shampoo also helps.
Does the antibiotic prescribed by your vet helps?if not, he is inabke to diagnose properly. change your vet.

According to google and this article, it is rather one of the commonest tumors to affect dogs. And fairly curable if treated early. Do give it a reading to get a better idea. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

Is there any self-drive car rental in Mumbai that allows pets?

Thanks dear but he is no more.

Just gone through the article that you shared. As mentioned in it, initially he was operated and lump was removed and it seems he recovered/respond to surgery quite well. However later again lumps were developed and another biopsy revealed that his cancer was high-grade and aggressive. My friend consulted other Vets too for second opinion but might be it was too late.

Thanks,
Pradip.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

We are from Hyderabad and usually keep our dogs at Petcetra Home-stays in Manikonda, when we go out of town. Though it is quite far from where we live, our dogs appear to enjoy their stay.

At least we think so based on the pictures we see of them gamboling around with other dogs. Of course, one of the dogs complains bitterly when we come to pick them up, whilst the other can't wait to leave because he knows he will get a long car ride.

This year the the home-stay will be closed around Christmas as the owner is likely to be away. Was wondering if anyone could recommend some alternate place where we can keep our dogs.

Since our dogs enjoy a free run of the house and are never ever tied or confined to a small space, a kennel where the dogs are caged is not an option for us.

I don't mind driving a long distance but we want someplace where the dogs get to play with other dogs and interact with people. Is that a tall order in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad?

Our pup is 10 months old and haven't yet left him at any boarding so far. We are planning to leave him for a day and gradually 2 occasionally, even if we don't plan to go out of the city, so that he gets used to being away. Coming back to the question, I have been to progressive kennels many times, to use their swimming pool and socialisation, both Priya and Chandra are very nice people. Progressive has lots of space around and a few huge confined areas, you can visit the place and check if it suits your requirements. Another place is Happy dogs kennel, while I have never been there personally or interacted with anyone there, but the reviews are quite good.

Cheers,
Pradeep.

Thanks, Pradeep, for sharing this information about the two kennels. Have checked the respective websites and yes, both places are located a fair distance away from where we live.

But having said that, we drive some 20 kms to reach Petcetra. Driving another seven to Progressive would be worth the time and effort, if our dogs will be happy.

After all, that's the least we can do for our pets who are great stress busters and keep us sane in an otherwise topsy turvy world.
