Re: India's last village in a Tata Curvv EV!

I know this is turning into an EV vs. ICE debate and this will be my last post on this thread.

Hills are where EVs shine. I have been planning more trips on hills after getting an EV and skipping the ICE options. On a 7 hour trip from Bangalore to Kodaikanal, it hardly takes 30 mins more but brings a lot more smiles on the face plus atleast Rs 10k in fuel savings.
Since we are talking about Kodaikanal, I went to Kodaikanal a couple of weeks ago , in my diesel Seltos. It was a 1400 kms trip covering the route Bangalore - Thekkady - Idukki - Vagamon - Thekkady - Kodai - Mannevanur - Kodai - Bangalore. Fair to say that 400+ kms were covered in the hills.

This was done in exactly 2 tankfuls of diesel worth 8k despite driving with a heavy foot throughout. One tankful at Bangalore before I started the trip and another tankful before ascending Kodaikanal. I still had a DTE of 150 kms when I reached home. A present generation EV might have done this trip at half the cost but couldn't have been as seamless.

I have done multiple long trips such as these in a seamless manner. The longest being a Bangalore to Somnath with stops in Pune and Surat. A trip spanning close to 3000 KMs over a week.

As I can see from your trip report you have taken a leisurely trip over many days which is what most people do. Your car would be charging at destination while you were relaxing. Out of the 20+ hotels that I have stayed in not one has denied charging and 18 of them have provided free charging. So it's not half the cost, it would've been 90% cheaper on such a trip with an EV. Not sure how you have come to the conclusion that it's not seamless.

This might be subjective but I will never buy a diesel with its clutter, noise and vibration. Gives me a lot of fatigue at the end the trip. In the mass market space like Creta and Seltos, their power output is low which also makes them slow. Would rather take public transport.

How did you pay him for this charging? I mean, honestly I am curious about how its being calculated? Did you look at his electric meter reading pre and post charging and paid at some agreed rate? If yes, was there nothing else consuming power from that same meter while you were charging? Also what was the rate that you guys agreed / paid per unit? Or was there any other agreement like a lump some pay? Appreciate your inputs!
