I had so many doubts about this product; I was strongly opinionated against MG for bringing this instead of the MG4. Oh, how wrong I was! While I did not like it as much, I went for the Nexon45. This is Blockbuster from MG. The 50 kW variant will be even more of a hit.

The Windsor has a good road presence, the interior is funky, and most importantly we have not heard of any problems or niggles from owners thus far. The only drawback is the ride quality. Unlike the other MG cars, this one will continue to sell well for a longer period of time.

Not surprised. Seeing loads of it everywhere. With its practical and functional interiors and equally funky yet stylish exteriors, the car is well received. Good work, MG!

They should have started off with 50kw variant. They missed a big opportunity already. Tata saw the threat and did good by launching 45kw Nexon.

Re: MG Windsor EV surpasses 20,000 sales in 6 months

This is a very good multi-functional family car for the city especially for families with elderly parents or in-laws. The back seat is very comfortable with acres of leg room and then the ingress and egress is without strain which the elders would appreciate. My only wish is for a better graphics in the center console, slightly plusher ride and bit more thigh support in the back seat would have made it even more comfortable like a sofa. With the launch of 50kw variant it should sell more for the practicality it offers over Curvv, BE6, etc. As more vehicles are seen on the road, it should generate more curiosity, more test drives and possibly more sales.

How's the ground report on the AC performance, particularly on the rear seat, now that summer is on full flow and it's the Windsor's first one?

To be fair, the summer in Kerala has been okey this time around (nothing like the furnace like situation that prevailed during the last summer). So as far as Kerala is concerned it has not yet faced the agni pareeksha.

Re: MG Windsor EV surpasses 20,000 sales in 6 months

There is a MG dealer showroom next to my house in Calcutta. Every day I see, at least one or two Windsor's being delivered to smiling, happy looking customers. The dealer's used car parking lot is also on the same premises and surprisingly there's a fair number of Nexon EV's and Tiago EV's languishing there.
Recently, I had a chat with the MG sales people. Most of them are familiar with me, as I'm a next door neighbour and also because I take my dog, (who is a hit with all the showroom staff), for a walk every day in front of their showroom. As per them almost 20% of their buyers are 1st time car buyers and almost 40% of their buyers are early EV buyers, who had purchased EV's from other makes, mostly 1st gen Nexon's.
As per the sales folks, the product attributes that has clicked for MG are:
1. Pricing and variant availability. Apparently the "B-a-a-S" has received a lukewarm response.
2. Refreshing mono volume, "clean" styling
3. Excellent interior fit and finish
4. Rear space and legroom + Seat recline feature
5. Very less bugs in the software, screens and other on-screen functions
6. Real world range is close to the advertised range. City users regularly report 280-295 kms range on one full charge, which is close to the advertised range of 332 kms. This seems to be a major "win" over the Nexon's, (specially the 1st gen Nexon's, as the gap/difference in actual range and claimed range for the Tata models were quite large).
7. Easier to carry pets due to easier rear ingress, large boot and flat rear floor.
8. Overall vehicle reliability

Whatever is the case; the Windsor has definitely proved to be a strong competitor to the Nexon EV. It has rattled the Nexon's cage, something which the XUV 400 EV from Mahindra is yet to achieve. MG does not seem to be in a hurry. It is taking steady steps in this competitive market to build its reputation and then forge ahead.

Here's wishing MG all the best. Hope it brings in more affordable, high quality EV models; perhaps a nice sporty EV hatch and sedan - to revive the market sentiments!

Re: MG Windsor EV surpasses 20,000 sales in 6 months

Like a few people have commented here, I was also skeptical of its success. Incidentally, I was discussing this with my wife today while on way to work when a Windsor stopped next to me at a signal. I see a lot of them during my office commute and in and around office area (BKC, Mumbai).
I guess the comfort (see a lot of chauffer driven Windsors) and the convenience of an EV in city traffic have attracted a lot of people. Credit where's its due, we can have opinions about MG cars but they have been able to win consumer trust with their offerings.

I knew this was a hit the moment I test drove it. It feels like a Tesla, immense amount of space and looks so futuristic. The VFM factor is also off the charts!

The only negatives are the battery capacity and width which makes it hard to park in tight lanes.

Re: MG Windsor EV surpasses 20,000 sales in 6 months

Kerala and its auto culture is exceptionally brand specific unless a really superior value for money product appears on the market and annihilates the brand boundaries. The Toyota Qualis, Innova, Maruthi Suzuki Zen, Alto K10 are products that I can think from the top of my head who have managed to get people to jump brands that they have sworn by for years. MG Windsor seems to be poised to be added to that mythical list. Past one week I have spent travelling here in Kerala, I have lost count of the number of times I spotted a Windsor on the road. MG seems to have a smash hit on their hands. Peace

Re: MG Windsor EV surpasses 20,000 sales in 6 months

I took this car for a spin in ring road (Mahadevapura till Marathahalli and back). Boy, the suspension is way too stiff and no way near to the business class experience they advertise. I couldn't spot any TPMS warning for which I believe air pressure won't be the culprit. Pricing and practicality wise, its a no brainer and that's why it sells. The comfort level is tad sad.

Re: MG Windsor EV surpasses 20,000 sales in 6 months

I am 6.2 in height and found the top spec Windsor very comfortable front and rear.

Most of these test drive cars have the tyre pressures all wrong. Which could be one reason for feeling the bumps on the road.

But then, considering Bangalore, there is nary a road without a broken surface, except perhaps in Sadashiva Nagar (and we know why.).

The MG Windsor represents amazing value for money and is a lovely car for sedate and comfortable family trips.

Contrary to the various opinions expressed here, upon considering the vehicle purely from a practical product point of view, I have nothing but praise for the vehicle.

Even its ‘Fiat Multipla-esque’ front appearance has grown on me and the car looks very nice side-on, especially in White and that Grey.

I particularly like the way the wheels fill the wheel arches- in some sense it makes me think of hotwheels toys.

Suffice it to say that it sells well because it is clearly appealing to people who value practicality, features, comfort, pricing, predictability in servicing, good experience at showrooms and a good thumping bang for their buck.

Indian buyers might actually be amongst the most sensible in the world.

Forget all the snobbery and quasi-enthusiastic cues and opinions for a moment.

Just let us consider and evaluate purely from a pragmatic point of view.
