2025 Tata Tiago.ev

2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others-2025_tata_tiago_evfacelift_exterior_01.jpg

What you'll like:

• A well-rounded EV package at a sub-10 lakh rupee starting price. Total value-for-money
• Zero tailpipe emissions & green image will appeal to the environmentally-conscious
• Real-world range of ~200 km is adequate for city commutes & urban dwellers
• Stupendously cheap fuel cost of 1 rupee / km (if you charge at home)
• Peppy behaviour in "S" mode! "D" mode is rather tame though
• Selectable regenerative braking is a very welcome feature
• Sorted road manners due to the lower center of gravity & firmer suspension
• Smooth drive, no gears, light controls & compact size make it an ideal city car
• Well-designed interiors are likeable & user-friendly
• Features like the 8-speaker Harman audio system, cruise control, auto headlamps & wipers, connected car tech & more
• Solid build & construction. Tigor EV's 4-star GNCAP result is reassuring

What you won't:

• A stiff 3-lakh rupees more expensive than the Tiago Petrol AMT. You're paying for the tech & being an early adopter
• Needs a charging point installed at your home parking. This is not doable for many people
• ~200 km range means this is strictly a city car. No long highway runs
• Stiffer suspension than the regular Tiago means you feel more of the road. Bad roads are felt
• Power tapers off after 100 km/h; top speed of just 120 km/h
• No spare tyre, you will have to make do with a puncture repair kit. We suggest buying a spare
• Long “full tank” charging times in comparison with an ICE car. Overnight charging is best
• Some misses such as alloy wheels, adjustable rear headrests, etc.
• Rear headroom is tight. Also, a rare Tata car that cannot seat 5 (best for 4 adults)
• Tata's after-sales service quality is a hit or miss. Remains a gamble

MG Comet EV

2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others-2023mgcometev01.jpg

What you'll like:

• An affordable EV that focuses on personal mobility
• Ultra-compact size, light steering and small turning radius make it perfect for crowded cities
• A well-built hatchback that doesn’t feel cheap
• Real world range should be 150 – 160 km which is enough for an urban commuter
• Adjustable drive modes and selectable regen braking are useful in various driving conditions
• Zero emissions, cheap running costs & green image will appeal to a lot of people
• Good-looking cabin that has adequate space for 4 people to drive around town
• Tech includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, connected car benefits, cool starting procedure (no button to press), digital key sharing, etc.
• Good feature list includes LED headlamps, indirect TPMS, keyless entry, split folding rear seat, reverse parking camera with sensors, etc.
• Plenty of customization options and accessories to make your car truly

What you won't:

• Weird, funky styling may not appeal to everyone
• Not for people who want to do highway runs. This car is strictly for the city only
• 2-door design means difficult rear seat access. Also, it is a 4-seater, not 5
• 41 BHP motor isn’t fun-to-drive
• Can be used only as the 2nd or 3rd car of the house. Surely not your primary vehicle
• Zero boot space with all the seats up. You’ll have to fold the rear seats if you want to carry any luggage
• No DC fast charging or even AC fast charging options. Just home charging is available which takes 7 hours for a full charge (10 – 80% in 5 hours)
• The usual EV challenges (charging infrastructure, range anxiety, setting up home charging etc.)
• Missing features like seat height adjustment (tall drivers would want to lower the seat), rear washer and wiper, spare wheel!!
• 2-speaker sound system is just sad

Citroen eC3

2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others-2023citroenec301.jpg

What you'll like:

• Funky looking electric hatchback. Crossover styling cues will appeal to the masses
• Real world range of ~200 km is good enough for city driving and urban commutes
• Zero emissions, cheap “fuel” costs, no gears, light controls & compact size make it an ideal city car
• Sorted handling characteristics, due to the lower center of gravity
• Good-looking cabin that is practical too
• 315-litre boot is very usable and fits a 15-inch spare wheel underneath
• 10-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Now gets connected car tech as well
• Lots of customization options and accessories to make your car truly unique

What you won't:

• Missing plenty of features – adjustable regeneration, electric ORVM adjustment, climate control, rear wiper & defogger, reversing camera, alloy wheels, etc.
• 56 BHP motor isn't very fun-to-drive. Top speed is limited to just 107 km/h
• 200 km range makes the eC3 strictly a city car. Not ideal for long-distance traveling
• No fast AC home charging even as an option. Either wait 10 hours or find a DC fast charger nearby
• The usual EV challenges (charging infrastructure, brand new tech could mean niggles, range anxiety)
• Quality of cabin materials doesn’t feel great; cost-cutting is pretty evident in certain areas
• Cabin width makes the interiors suitable for 4 adults, not 5
• Long-term reliability & after-sales service quality are big unknowns; dealer network is tiny

Tata Punch.ev

2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others-2024_tata_punch_ev_exterior_01.jpg

What you'll like:

• A well-rounded EV package at an affordable price tag
• Punchy 121 BHP motor is enjoyable. 300 km real-world range is adequate for most people
• Zero emissions, cheap “fuel” costs, no gears, light controls & compact size make it an ideal city car
• Enjoyable 6-speaker Harman ICE. One of the better systems in this segment
• Sorted road manners & reassuring high speed stability
• Well-designed & practical cabin with enough space for 4 adults
• 366-liter boot is accommodating
• Loads of features such as ventilated seats, auto-dimming IRVM, multi-mode regen, cruise control, Arcade.ev apps, air purifier, wireless smartphone charging, sunroof and more
• Safety kit includes 6 airbags, disc brakes all-round, ESP, electronic parking brake, auto hold, blind spot view monitor, hill descent control, SOS calling function, etc.

What you won't:

• Fit, finish & interior quality - although satisfactory overall - still has room for improvement in some areas
• Suspension has a firm tune (R16 variants). It is compliant & liveable, but you do feel bad roads
• The usual EV challenges (charging infrastructure, brand new tech could mean niggles, range anxiety)
• No spare tyre, you will have to make do with a puncture repair kit! Good luck cruising on highways without a spare
• Cabin width makes 4 adults welcome, not 5
• Some missing goodies such as a split rear seat, rear A/C vents, spare wheel…
• Tata's after-sales service quality is a hit or miss. Remains a gamble

Tata Tigor.ev

2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others-2021tatatigorev01.jpg

What you'll like:

• A competent EV package at an affordable starting price
• Zero tailpipe emissions & green image will appeal to the environmentally-conscious
• Real-world range of ~200 km is adequate for city commutes & urban dwellers
• Stupendously cheap fuel cost of 1 rupee / km (if you charge at home)
• Peppy behaviour in "S" mode! "D" mode is rather tame though
• Sorted road manners due to the lower center-of-gravity & firmer suspension
• Smooth drive, no gears, light controls & compact size make it an ideal city car
• Well-designed interiors are likeable & user-friendly
• Features like the 8-speaker Harman audio system, projector headlamps, connected car tech & more
• Solid build & construction. 4-star GNCAP safety rating is commendable

What you won't:

• A stiff 5-lakh rupees more expensive than the Tigor Petrol AMT
• Nexon EV is superior & not that far away in terms of pricing (or EMIs)
• ~200 km range means this is strictly a city car. No long highway runs
• Stiffer suspension than the regular Tigor means you feel more of the road. Bad roads are felt
• Power tapers off after 100 km/h; top speed of just 120 km/h
• Smaller 316L boot (regular Tigor = 419L) due to the intrusive spare tyre
• Some misses such as "P" mode on the shifter, adjustable regen braking & alloy wheels
• A rare Tata car that cannot seat 5 (best for 4 adults)
• Tata's after-sales service quality is a hit or miss. Remains a gamble

Another strong contender in the same budget is WindsorEV. It has been eating into Punch and Nexon sales for quite some time.

Re: 2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others

For a city ride, it’s hard to look beyond the sheer brilliance of the MG Comet. Its compact dimensions make it a breeze to drive around in traffic, manoeuvrability is fantastic, the motor is adequately powerful and the cabin feels well built and premium, especially compared to other cars of the price. The range is also more than good enough for the use case. There is a certain quirkiness and feel good factor about this car, I really like it.

Punch EV is undoubtedly a better all rounder but it desperately needs a battery tech upgrade as well as a price cut. As things stand, it is hard to justify recommending it over the similarly priced MG Windsor.

Re: 2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others

I have voted for Tiago.EV and we also have one. Discounting the below par reliability of Tata cars, apart from Punch and to a good extent Tiago, the others have serious weaknesses.

I chose the Tiago over Punch because it was the exact size I needed and in my books Punch.EV looks terrible. My main criteria were a dedicated city car with small footprint for easy parking, decent cain, able to seat 3 adults + 2 kids over short ranges if needed, fairly spaced boot to carry a couple of sports kit + shopping bags and a range of 150-200 kms (a car that could be home charged from say 10 -100 easily overnight)

I personally think Tiago can be made into an ultimate city car by reducing its turning radius, making the cabin more upmarket and of course erasing all concerns/doubts related to its reliability.

At the moment I am highly satisfied with the Tiago.EV

Re: 2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others

I have a Comet EV and it’s been a perfect city car for me. Nothing beats it IMO.
Small size
Easy to park. Have parked it at 2 wheeler areas many times
Easy on pocket
Easy to drive
Excellent headlights
Comfortable for four
Have even carried pots and plants and even transported a cycle.,

It is so comfortable with it at home I don’t even use my 2 wheeler.
It’s become our go to vehicle for city commutes.

Only gripe is its dynamics are not that great, and other drivers like to bully you because of the size.

Everything else is perfect for the city.

Re: 2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others

I would have voted for Punch except that I really don't vibe with these mini+SUV body type, especially for an EV. My idea of a compact EV is a sleek aerodynamic lightweight body with low rolling resistance tires like a city compact.

If it has to be like the Comet, it could well have been a Nano EV. The very safety reasons for which Nano was phased out apply to the Comet body style too. So out goes Comet - it's overpriced and a design disaster.

Tiago has overcome the Nano safety issues and can be electrically and cosmetcally optimized to make a good city runabout. I guess Tata is smart not to launch a Altroz EV as it would not only eat into Altroz but also the Punch & Nexon EV markets.

The other non-contender being discussed Windsor - it will take me atleast a 3 year market run before I put my money in a Chinese product or their battery schemes.

Re: 2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others

Voted for the Tata Punch EV.

I believe the Tata Punch EV is an all-rounder among the options available. It's got a punchy engine with enough range for most people. Its overall size makes it a perfect compact city car. It's not just feature-loaded but also includes many safety features. It comes with a Harman music system, which is better than the systems in other available cars, and it also offers 366 litres of boot space, which is ample.

The Tata Tiago EV is also good, but it looks dated now compared to other cars in the group. The same applies to the Tata Tigor EV. Additionally, the top-end price of the Tata Tigor EV brings it close to the better Tata Nexon EV.

Although the MG Comet EV is a good car, its looks might not appeal to everyone. Furthermore, the 2-door design might not suit a family of four as it makes rear-seat access a bit tricky. Also, it doesn’t offer great boot space with all seats in use.

I would avoid the Citroen eC3 irrespective of how good the car is. With low sales and limited market presence, I would steer clear of an EV product from them at this stage.

Comet's puny 12 inch tires gives it a autorickshaw type ride quality. Otherwise it is a great city car.

Re: 2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others

I would pick the Citroλn EC3. It's list of positives is quite long.
• Very, very comfortable.
• Packs in decent space.
• Chiller of an AC.
• Good reliability unlike its competitors.
• Repeated fast charging capability.
• Performance stays usable even below 10% SoC, and so does the AC cooling.
• Delivers almost the same range as promised when driven sanely.

Voted for others i.e. XUV400 Pro. I recently got it and at the current prices, its a great car, specially if you get your hands on a good pre-owned one.

Re: 2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others

I’ve voted for the eC3 Citroen. I own one, written about my ownership. I’m glad with that the decision to buy it. It’s about 19 months old, nearly 25 K on the Odo.

What I like
1. Fuss free ownership
2. No untoward incidents
3. Performance and range consistent
4. Good service experience
5. No glitches that’s rendered the car unusable.
6. Great AC, now appreciating it even more when the outside temp is around 40 deg C
7. Suspension and steering among the best (of the cars I’ve owned.)
8. Have done about 110 fast charging sessions without any problems.
9. Spare tyre is present
10. Good Boot space
11. Well supportive seats and comfortable ride and good driving ( SUV like) position.

What I don’t like:
1. No brake light warning during regen braking
2. MID is not intuitively designed with all data available on the screen.
3. Rear power window switches are in the centre and could have been door mounted.
4. No ORVMs in the Feel variant
5. Halogen OEM headlights which could have been LED projectors.
6. NVH prominent after 80 Km/hr. Could have had better sound insulation

Biased vote for the Comet given I own one.

I'd disagree that it isn't fun to drive, especially in sports mode. The size helps, too.

No DC fast charging can definitely be a pain at times, however AC fast charging is available for an extra 50k for the higher variants, which halves the already overnight charge time.

There's 4 speakers in the latest 2025 model, as well as electronic folding ORVMs - which would be even more useful in such a narrow car!

In this price range, would have voted for the Windsor EV, if it were amongst the options. Have test driven it, loved it, and want to own it, but in the longer range guise, because I live in Manali, and 200-250Kms EV range just isn't enough for the kind of long trips we get to do.

Amongst these limited options, Punch EV LR is my pick, and fulfills most of my needs, if I buy an EV today!

Re: 2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others

I wont vote on this thread. But I will place my points of view for consideration.

I am appreciative of the practicality, reliability, service attitude of MG, financial advantage in ownership and maintenance and the sheer common sense exemplified by the Comet.

I simply love the looks of the Tiago EV and yes, it is in many ways, to the present day EV world, something like the Mini was, when it was launched in 1959. However, this whole Tata attitude and high unpredictability and tension around servicing is something I would rather do without.

I think the Punch is practical but the same Tata considerations make me worry.

I think the Citroen eC3 is an excellent car. It is extremely comfortable and feels good inside. Much better than the Punch. Sadly they are the underdog and have been deeply undervalued and poorly managed in India as a brand.

I really appreciate the XUV400 as a ‘Not Born EV’. Its suspension is somewhere else! But I think Mahindra has far too many models around and all of them going to the same service centres and this makes me worry. Where there is massive crowding, there are bound to be servicing headaches. And Ive seen the crowding and pressure as I used to own a Mahindra till recently. Also, it is a fact that despite their brush with Reva, Mahindra technicians and all are still figuring out the EV world.

Reva/ E20 when considered, was 18 years ahead of its time. That car deserves to be resurrected.

And we definitely need many more city hatchback EV options to choose from. Wonder if VinFast is any good. The looks of their VF3 are cute and quirky, but we know very little about the brand as such from a practical point of view.
