Re: 2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others

Voted for the Punch ev, as it ticks the most boxes. But, the interiors need a serious upgrade. They don't belong in such an expensive car. Tata needs to offer better, soft touch plastics, justifying the huge premium over the ICE variants.

The Tiago has been updated in 2025, but it skips on offering six standard airbags, which is a huge miss. If the next generation is a year away, it might be better to wait.

The eC3 is miles behind, when it comes to features. Upgrades being offered for its siblings, have not yet been carried over to the EV yet. The calculator type instrument display needs to go ASAP.

MG would have been ruling this segment too, had the Comet grown two more doors. A five door Comet, with bigger wheels, would have made it the default choice in the entry level segment and made the Tiago look like a dinosaur.

Voted for Punch.ev. Obviously, I thought it was good and hence bought it. After a year of Punch.ev ownership I still feel it was a good decision. Now there are better options like Windsor EV for the price bracket. Windsor EV would have garnered quite a few votes if that was an option in this poll.

Re: 2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others

The comet ev and the Windsor EV are ground up ev platforms and cars. The rest are jugads with a high price.
My vote is for the comet as an entry level city car, the only rear wheel drive in the lot. Very easy to drive and park in the crowded city spaces.
For those with a bigger budget the Windsor EV is the choice.

Also,

I'd disagree that it isn't fun to drive, especially in sports mode. The size helps, too.

No DC fast charging can definitely be a pain at times, however AC fast charging is available for an extra 50k for the higher variants, which halves the already overnight charge time.

There's 4 speakers in the latest 2025 model, as well as electronic folding ORVMs - which would be even more useful in such a narrow car!
I own a 'non fast charger Comet', having done 43,556 kms. The only thing I miss is the fast charging AC option, specially on long distance drives (down 2 of them each being approximately a 1000 kms round trip). Even locally, at times I have to use commercial 7.4 KW chargers, would have been really 'time saving' to be able to AC fast charge it. For overnight charging, at home, 7.4 KW charger is an overkill for sure.

Yeah, especially because in my 8k km with the non fast-charging Comet, the median charging time is probably closer to 4 hours.

I also mentioned DC charging specifically for roadtrips - it's the one big con compared to every other option here, because it limits the chargers that can be used, especially now that the charger proliferation is increasing.

Even the slowest possible DC charging speed (15/25/30 kW?) would be useful with such a tiny battery.

Or perhaps MG could launch the bigger battery version they have overseas.

Re: 2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others

Would vote for the Punch EV. With the discounts currently ongoing, the cost would be down be about ~12L for the top of the line version. With 300km on a full charge makes it usable for inter city travel too. But Tata cars are not known for the reliability or after sales service.

However, as a city car, it's difficult to fault the cute comet.
Also, a small correction in the original post- the Comet now comes with AC 7.2kwh fast charging which would mean a charging time of about 3hrs.

Re: 2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others

As a newbie, and this being my first post (haven't even introduced myself), I cannot vote. If I did have the privilege, my choice would have been the MG Comet. Let me explain:

1) Tata EVs are excellent. Their after-sales (if the gazillions and gazillions of reddit posts and team-bhp ownership reviews are to be believed), not so much. In my opinion, it seems that the service staff do not have much idea of technologically complicated cars. On the other hand, JSW-SAIC definitely has a better after-sales, and they have a long history of building EVs.

2) For some inexplainable reason, I feel that Stellantis India is only making half-hearted attempts for India. If someone where to say something like 'Any way, India can't be the main market and it is not worth investing in superior products for it', then I can point out Hyundai, Kia, and JSW-SAIC.

What if Stellantis wants to recreate history by doing what Volkswagen did to the Vento and Polo during the 2012-2017 times (European company, continuous updates to outdated product but no real gamechanger)

3) None of the other cars mentioned here are built on a skateboard EV platform. While I do not see it is a significant deal breaker, it does act as a bonus point.

4) The cheapest car on the road that I cannot miss is the Comet. A Tiago, or a Punch can easily be looked away from. At the same time, this is a car that is actually practical and not just aesthetically stunning. I had the opportunity to sit in all four seats of the car (in a display car in Phoenix mall) and I had adequate space in all of them in almost all parameters (headroom, shoulder room, legroom, etc) (I am nearly 170 cm tall). I do remember the rear-seat under-thigh support to be lacking though.

5) Here is a logic that will make BHPians hate me: In today's India, there is no EV below Rs. 15 Lakhs that can completely replace an ICE. Most people who buy an EV either have another car or simply do not travel that long. The Comet, though it is much more expensive, can be a replacement for scooters.
Within city limits, especially the congested areas, the smaller the car better the usability.

None of the above. I wish Mahindra will release multiple variants of the refreshed 3XO with existing 35kwh & 39.4kwh battery @ 10-15L ex-showroom. The choice would have been clear!

In the strictly city options, my vote would be for the Comet.

Comparing it with Tiago is sacrilege as USP of both the cars are different. Comet can easily serve as a replacement for a puny two wheeler ICE scooter, whereas Tiago suits the requirement of replacement of a proper car

Re: 2025 Tata Tiago.ev vs MG Comet vs Citroen eC3 vs Tata Punch.ev vs others

I am not sure if I drove a bad example of the Comet or if many others haven’t driven it extensively, perhaps owners can clarify, but I found it to be an extremely poorly finished product. Sound in theory but lacking in execution. The steering groans and creaks at full lock, the throttle response is vague and imprecise or rather not as crisp as I hoped and the doors felt like they had just come from the body shop. Like they were poorly weighted and had poorly adjusted hinges leading to the doors often not closing completely which I felt detracts from the new car experience that we have come to expect in the 21st century. This was a relatives car and it may not be the case with most and I am hoping owners can shed some light on this.

I wanted to like the car so much since I am an advocate for small cars but overall my impression was that it is not even a 2nd or 3rd car as such but rather a car for someone who can have so many cars that they don’t mind experiencing something new without feeling hurt by the compromises being made or atleast the compromises that I experienced. Size and convenience is great but finesse is missing.
