Skoda to unveil Octavia EV concept in September at IAA 2025

Skoda will preview the Octavia EV with a concept car at the Munich Motor Show in September this year. The concept will feature an estate body style and a next-gen architecture that will be used in all future EVs from the Volkswagen Group.

Announcing the concept car at a media briefing for Skoda’s 2024 financial results, CEO Klaus Zellmer said: “In September in Munich, we're going to have a concept car that gives an indication of what the new design language will be for the Octavia and what the technology in that car will be able to deliver.”

Skoda originally planned to launch an electric Octavia estate based on the current MEB platform. Zellmer said it would instead be underpinned by the SSP architecture, which is currently under development. It is claimed to offer more performance and be more efficient.

He said: “Wait and see until September, and then we will show you the full potential and technical package that we envision. It will be a concept car, so this is also a test bed for us to see what the resonance from the media, from our dealers and our potential customers, is.”

The production version of the Octavia EV will launch by the end of the decade. It will be the first model to lead the next generation of Skoda EVs. The Volkswagen ID Golf, also based on the same SSP platform, will launch around the same time.

Two more Skoda electrics are set to launch prior to the Octavia EV. These include the Epic crossover and a new 7-seater flagship electric SUV similar to the Kodiaq. This is likely to be Skoda’s most expensive car yet, but Zellmer said it will retain its core principles of “design functionality and value for money”.

Zellmer said the VRS badge will also be part of Skoda’s electric future. He confirmed that a second electric Skoda vRS (after the Enyaq vRS) is in the works.
