Re: Mahindra BE 6 | Would you buy the base, mid or top variants?

If not restricted by the 30lac on-road price of the top trim, that would be a sure shot pick just for the larger battery pack and the punch that it packs. Near 300 horses, we are talking sports car territory.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 | Would you buy the base, mid or top variants?

I went over this exact thing for a few days before I ended up selecting pack 3. Went back and forth a few times, so just sharing all my thoughts.

IMO, this is how I feel the variant split is like:

Pack 1/Pack 1 Above: Insane VFM. If you are tight on budget and want a car which does just the basics (good range, good powertrain, good safety), it's the perfect hot hatch. It's basically a Golf GTI rivaling hot hatch under 20 lakhs on road.

Pack 2: This seems like the perfect compromise at first glance. Initially I thought this is the best variant. But as I thought more and more this variant didn't seem that great. It misses out on 3 major features:

1. Semi Adaptive suspension: This is the major blow as the suspension on this car is absolutely amazing. Not sure how good the normal one would be, but if the other Mahindra cars are any indication, it won't even be close.

2. 360 degree camera: I don't need this on normal cars, but on a 1.9m wide car in cities it will be absolutely essential to get past narrow streets

3. Ventilated seats: I don't care about powered seats but ventilated front seats are a very good to have in India.

Pack 3 select: Adds all the missing equipment over pack 2, and then some. The differences are worth it. But the biggest problem with pack 3 select is that pack 3 exists.

Pack 3: Doesn't add a lot of equipment over pack 3 but adds that big battery. Worth it just for that. You get the full ADAS suite and AR HUD as just extras. And BTW, that AR HUD is super useful. It shows navigation, blind spot monitoring stuff and a lot more. I thought it would be a gimmick but it's not.

To me, it was between pack 3 select and pack 3. Due to Karnataka tax laws, the Pack 3 was almost 5 lakhs more expensive. But IMO it's still worth it for that big battery and proper ADAS. You pay a lot more in other cars for these extras.

As some are mentioning, there could be Frankenstein combos like pack 2 + 79kwh, but even that would miss out on the semi adaptive suspension. For a driver focused car, I wouldn't miss out on the good suspension. From my test drive, the suspension is definitely very very good.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 | Would you buy the base, mid or top variants?

Eyes closed, the pack 3 is my pick. Absolutely love the BE 6E in an isolated environment (when you don't throw in the Atto 3) and this car has an air of desirability around it. Even though the top variant is pricey, I don't mind splurging a bit, when I am owning the car for the next 6-7 years.

This car is absolutely VFM from an enthusiast's perspective. 280 BHP + Good range and no tailpipe emissions, this is one heck of a car!

Voted for Pack 2

It offers the best of both worlds, providing most of the necessary features at a good price point.

I wouldn't ideally opt for any of the current trims and would rather wait for Mahindra to launch the 79kWh version in the Pack 2 trim. For an electric vehicle, a longer range is crucial, and people tend to prefer vehicles with extended range. Therefore, Mahindra has strategically offered only one trim for the larger battery pack. However, once the initial hype dies down, I believe Mahindra will introduce a couple of additional trims with the 79kWh battery pack, and that would likely be the ideal time to make a purchase.

Voted for Pack 1, I need the cheapest EV with the biggest battery, in the lowest budget. I don't think there is better cost per KW out there than the Pack 1.

This is a very interesting observation

Be6 pack1 59 =19L hence 3.1kw/lac
Be6 pack3 79 =27L hence 2.9kw/lac

I own the Nexon 45 so I calculated for base and top
Base creative 45 =14L hence 3.2kw/lac
Top empowered+ 45 = 17L hence 2.6kw/lac

Add to that, the fantastic power in the 79KWH car, which makes it well worth the while to spend ₹2.5 l more. And as a MH resident, at present, road tax is zero on all EVs. So if I were in the market for a new car, I would pick the Pack Three. To my mind, it makes sense for almost everyone - except perhaps those who live in states like KA where the price difference vs the nearest trim rises to ₹ 5 l instead of ₹2.5 l due to additional road tax kicking in.
Doing some math on the number provided by MnM, the 59 does ~ 81.5% of the 79 KWH model on the BEVs (both the 6 and 9E). That'll ensure that KMP/kW is >6 on the lower-watt hour model. They've spoken of a diminishing point of return on weight v/s range, and I'd also throw in the safety aspect of the 59 being more manageable compared to the 79 (considering stopping distance, for one..) while making up my mind on the matter.

That’s only natural especially in case of nexon because the powertrain is the same but they add features for which you have to pay the premiums

The price of extra features do not increase proportionally to battery prices

Re: Mahindra BE 6 | Would you buy the base, mid or top variants?

I would suggest to buy the top model. Its really a great value for money, considering I bought Nexon EV Max, with 40 KwH battery pack for 21 lacks on road in Delhi. This car comes with a great price of 30 lacks on road, Delhi. The features it offers like, various relaxation modes, the great music system, park assist, 20 inch tyres, great suspension, great range and 11KW charger with 170KwH peak charging capacity in DC. If I had money today, I wouldn't have thought twice.

Though there is just one caveat. Mahindras and Tatas have this bad reputation to test their vehicle on first set of buyers. Their cars are much more stable in 2nd lot, and to be safest would be the 3rd lot, which comes after around 6-9 months on initial launch. Had I been in your position, I would have waited for Diwal or year end offers before making a buying decision.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 | Would you buy the base, mid or top variants?

Voted for Pack One with the 59kWh battery
Primary reasons -
1. For around 20.5 OTR, has all the basics covered.
2. Enough range for city usage + occasional highway runs
3. Perfect for nuclear families, or someone who needs a secondary car
