Hyundai Casper Electric Cross launched in South Korea

The Hyundai Casper is a compact sub-4-metre SUV that was launched in 2021 globally followed by an EV version called the Inster. Now a rugged version of the same EV has been launched in the domestic market in South Korea called the Casper Electric Cross.

Compared to the standard model, the Electric Cross gets some beefy updates. It gets silver skid plates along with black cladding on the sides. There are new design 17-inch alloys and the rear bumper gets a pixelated theme. Other changes to the exterior include full LED headlights as standard, a roof rack, exclusive matte green paint, and updated graphics for the taillights.

On the interior, the Casper Electric Cross gets two-tone upholstery with the seat bottom matching the green body. Despite having a large centre screen, there are a bunch of physical buttons as well.

The Casper Electric Cross features a 49-kWh battery pack that gives a range of 285 kilometres on the local test cycle. It takes half an hour to charge the battery from 10% to 80%. For extra range, the regular Casper Electric with smaller 15-inch alloys can do 315 km on a single charge.

In Europe, the Inster has a maximum WLTP rating of 370 km.

It also gets a more powerful electric motor to go with the bigger battery pack (the standard battery pack is 42-kWh). It puts out 113 horsepower and 147 Nm torque.

Performance figures havent been revealed but the Europe spec long range Inster does 0 to 100 kph in 10.6 seconds and has a top speed of 150 kph.

The Casper Electric Cross is now on sale in South Korea for a price of 31.9 million won or about $22,000 at current exchange rates.

I have not followed Inster/Casper global launch and at first glance of the B-pillar my brain told me that this is Syros counterpart. The Hyundai version looks far far better than Kia counter part for first time after long time.

One of the Hyundai dealer casually told me that Hyundai would release sub 4m EV before end of this year. Now I think it could be Casper and the interior space offered would be as good as Kia Syros. Hyundai can again cannibalize Kia sales if they launch Casper ICE and Inster EV in India.

Yes you are correct. It could be the Inster EV that could come. And from what I know the Casper was anyway slated for an India launch. This year? Im not sure.
