Mercedes developing a 1000 BHP AMG-exclusive SUV to rival Lotus Eletre; Unveil in 2027 According to reports, Mercedes-AMG, the performance division of the German luxury carmaker, is working on a new SUV called the 'Electric GT SUV'.
The new Mercedes AMG electric GT SUV will reportedly be one of the most powerful cars ever produced by the brand. Mercedes is already said to have started testing the production version of its prototype. The SUV is expected to go on sale in the UK sometime in 2027.
The new Mercedes-AMG electric GT SUV will be based on the AMG.EA architecture, which also underpins the production version of the Vision AMG concept scheduled to arrive in 2026. The new SUV with the AMG.EA platform will feature an 800V architecture and use axial flux electric motors with dual or tri-motor setups. The electric powertrain is said to produce well over 1000 BHP.
Reports state that the AMG dedicated SUV will be heavily focused towards on-road performance, although it will get adjustable ride height control for off-road use. The prototype of the upcoming performance SUV showcases a bold design with clear inspiration from its Vision GT sibling.
The front will feature a new interpretation of AMG's Panamericana grille, flanked by distinctive headlights with three-pointed star graphics. Flared wheel arches, retractable door handles and wide rear haunches make up the side profile of the SUV.
Reports also state that the upcoming model will solely be offered in an SUV body style, with no plans of having an SUV-coupe version. The AMG electric GT SUV will sit between the EQE and EQS models in Mercedes' range. Inside, the AMG SUV will feature a unique design for the dashboard, displays and cabin layout. The infotainment system will also run on a new AMG.OS software.
The new Mercedes-AMG SUV will be manufactured at the brand's facility in Germany, alongside its saloon sibling.
