The 'G 580 with EQ Technology' is based on a ladder-frame chassis just like its ICE counterpart. The SUV is powered by four electric motors – 2 in the front and 2 in the rear - producing 580 BHP and 1165 Nm. Mercedes claims the electric G-Wagon can sprint from 0-98 km/h in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 180 km/h.

The G 580 comes with a 116 kWh battery pack, offering a range of 386 km on a single charge. It comes with fast-charging capabilities of up to 200 kW at Level 3 DC charger, allowing 10-80% charge in 30 minutes.

In terms of design, the G 580 looks similar to the ICE version, except for a few details, such as the gloss black front panel with an illuminated surround, reworked bumpers, and a raised bonnet. The SUV has circular LED headlights, LED taillights, and a storage box at the rear to carry the charging cables.

The interior also looks identical to the standard G-Class. It features a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, keyless entry, a Burmester sound system, and rear seat entertainment units.

They should be able to price it significantly lower than the G63 AMG due to the GST differential (Just 5% GST). GST is applied on the after import duty price so it should still be expensive but not as much as the G63

In all likelihood, this will be more like a symbolic launch. 99% of the following for G is due to a combination of sound & shape of the vehicle. No one buys the G for driveability or how much this EV will be cheaper to run

MB won't be under any pressure to sell so many units, so it may go very close to the G63. My hunch will be around 3 Cr +

The electric G-Wagon seems like a perfect blend of iconic design and cutting-edge EV tech. Can’t wait to see how it performs on Indian roads!

Top speed of just 180 km/h ? You got to be kidding me. Cars half the price give higher top speed, and more range. I know I am not the customer for this, but then again it feels a bit bad. At this point, I guess the ICE Gelandewagen would be a better option. Or maybe the EQS450 at 2 crores less.

And where do you plan to drive this thing at higher speeds?

We are getting edition One, fully loaded one spec, 5 different exterior colors, and interiors which are a little different from G63. Also, this will be running on 20-inch tyres unlike 22/23 on the G63, probably to conserve battery. 110 kW battery and a range of 350 Km is too low.

Also, I am a firm believer in Noise + Action is more fun So, I will probably save more and get the newer AMG variant.

I know it's impossible to drive this brick of a car at higher speeds. But giving a little higher top speed won't do any bad. No one is taking these to tracks, they'll only be garage queens and give you some bragging rights. Like one can say "My Mercedes Benz G580 with EQS Technology can travel at XXX km/h." Just imagine the fluster on the owner's face if someone says my BE6 can travel faster than your Mercedes. EV'S have democratised performance a lot.
I am not the customer for this, but still when you see cars half the price having higher top speed it kind of makes me question the whole purpose of posting the top speed. Or you can be like Rolls Royce , just mentioning that it can travel fast. Just my opinion

IMO it is good that companies are limiting top speeds. In India I feel the limit should be even lower, say 150. We have enough stupid rich kids causing high speed accidents.
