Jaguar has taken the wraps off its all-new Type 00 (Type Zero Zero) concept at the Miami Art Week 2024. The new Jaguar Type 00 previews the brand's upcoming four-door electric GT - the first of its all-new EV range for the global market.



The concept showcases a very polarising design philosophy. While the proportions of the Type 00 match that of a grand tourer, the concept does feature a boxy design with an elongated bonnet, rear-set cabin and a coupe-like roofline. The Jaguar concept also gets an upright boxy front fascia with an enclosed grille with the brand's new "Device Mark' logo and sleek lighting units; both at the base of the bonnet and on the lower section of the bumper.



The concept features a prominent body line running along the length of the car, flared wheel arches and the new leaper logo near the side skirts, while the J roundel is seen on the wheel caps. The Type 00 lacks a rear windshield but gets a glazed roof which lets light inside the cabin. The rear gets a pantograph panel, a notable diffuser element can be seen on the rear bumper while a grille-like panel makes up for the majority of the styling elements at the back.



Inside, the Jaguar Type 00 carries forward the minimalist design, with the driver and passenger sides separated by a raised centre console. Both the driver and front passenger get their own fold-away displays.



The production-spec version of the all-electric four-door GT from Jaguar will make its global debut in late-2025, before going on sale in 2026. Jaguar hasn't revealed the powertrain specifications of its EV, although the production model is said to offer up to 770 km of range (WLTP cycle), with fast charging capabilities of adding up to 321 km in just 10 minutes.

Jaguar’s deep-pocketed patron is Tata Group, India’s mightiest conglomerate. JLR itself posted record revenues of $36.3 billion in the last fiscal year. JLR’s $2.75 billion in profit is its highest since 2015. Wait, actual profits? Lucid’s Peter Rawlinson and Rivian’s RJ Scaringe would pop champagne at the very thought. Sure, Land Rover generates roughly 100 percent of those earnings. But Land Rover has been carrying Jaguar like a sickly kitten since Ford sold both brands to Tata 16 years ago. What’s a few more?
Finally, the Jaguar name still carries more recognition than any start-up. Among laypeople, I hear this all the time: What’s a Rivian? Lucid, you say? But people know Jaguar, for better or worse.
Jaguar’s electric transformation does appear to be the ultimate Hail Mary play. But teams draw it up for a reason: Every once in a while, it works.

Interesting.. Wouldn't say I'm a fan of these new Jags but this looks like an evolution for real. On first glance I mistook the front for a new RR car but it was a Jag to my surprise. Plus this entire theme of pink makes it very "un-car" like. Let's see how it shapes.

Love the car's silhouette, long hood and overall proportions. Looks fat & mean .

But that new Jaguar nameplate styling looks terrible. And as bad as their rebranding exercise was, they had to unveil this Type 00 with pink & purple . Jaguar has struggled for over a decade, and this all-electric strategy + lame rebranding isn't going to save them. Get some Crossovers & SUVs already!

It looks like a hot wheels car to my eyes. Jaguar has totally lost it. I don't understand why they went thru this rebranding exercise, it was never needed in the first place IMO.

Add to it, the overload of pink. I mean, I don't understand what Jaguar is trying to prove. You don't need to go totally loud to prove to someone that you copy no one. You never did copy anyone, Jaguar. You did not need to use Hello Kitty colors to prove this point.

Long bonnets look great but kicks out the practicality. This is a little like maybach 6. Long bonnet driving can also be challenging which people forget when oggling at the beauty of it.

Seems jaguar is trying to move a couple of segments above and not compete with the German trio in the standard categories. The target audience as well as competition seems unknown to me.

Only design philosophies won’t take them anywhere. People need to see the tech, things in action. Interior design sophistication and premiumness. Selling cars in the form of art can’t be done unless you have some proven product, start of art engineering, existing pedigree in the segment. Don’t try to do a pagani like art ad and launch. They can and jag can’t as they have proven dynamics, carbon builds, light weights, amg song, connoisseur design, minimal screens, and metal artwork, and they are not rebranding.

I am honestly quite happy with how they have played this. Jaguar had fallen far from grace to turn into a struggling luxury and sports brand.

There was no where to go with their erstwhile design philosophy, shared platforms and products. Even if they did improve on it to make excellent products for today's world: solid cars with strong fundamentals are inherently boring. For Jaguar to recapture hearts and imaginations, they have to stand for something unique, something desirable.

In the coming years, there will be plenty of quirky vehicles around - from Teslas, Mahindras, Yang Wangs to a whole host of Chinese manufacturers. Jaguar can get ahead of them as well as their rivals by cementing their reputation as innovators.

First they made an ad to deliberately alienate Jag's core audience. Then they showed a concept that any design intern would make. I have a feeling this is a brave/foolish marketing exercise to troll us.

No one was talking about Jaguar for a very long time. Suddenly, Jaguar is the talk of town.

I wouldn't be surprised if they wipe the slate clean and come out with a line that AI took over Jag and it did all this and now the original humans have taken control back.

The joke would be on all of us and Jag would have got back its lost awareness points.

It seems like the Jaguar board came to a decision that anything manufactured on similar lines would continue to sell in single digits. It would cost too much to bring in reliability into their ICE cars. It would mean a complete overhaul anyway. Either you dump the brand altogether or try something divergent.

The concept and design look promising. The production version could hold the same dimensions but will in all probability look considerably more "real".

I would have presented this car in British racing green and perhaps the blue they chose. I am eagerly waiting on what they can conjure up and present to the world end of 2025.

Is it me or after making the highly Woke oriented advertisement they are displaying 2 colors - Pink and Blue (to my eyes) which are quintessentially been associated with M and F in the western world?

PS - Copy nothing my .!! Kudos to the person spotting the RR wheels copy.
