Re: MG Cyberster electric sportscar India launch in January 2025

This thing looks very radical and a kind of it's own.

But the main question is that, Will the Indian market accept an all electric vehicle which is priced around 60L, that's best suitable as a 2nd/3rd car.

Furthermore, MG doesn't have a brand value to pay this much premium.

We have to wait and watch. Only time will tell.

The car itself looks really good, like a happier bmw z4 if you will and more powerful too.

People go to great lengths to improve, what in most cases, is already an obnoxiously (read beautifully) loud factory exhaust. The cold morning start of a V8 or when the engine throws pops and crackles in sports mode gives the thrill of driving a sports car.

While the steer pull of an EV sports can be exhilarating, it will only be, at best, ~66% of the whole sports car driving experience; Weighted out at 33% looks, 33% sound, 33% power and 1% if you managed to buy a sports car before hitting 50
To me few things have much higher priority
1. Can car do what I ask it to do (a reasonable ask, mostly about handling)
2. Would the car punish me disproportionately if I make a mistake (some cars hide the mistakes, some punish too hard, this is mostly at limit driving that I wouldn't do on roads)
3. How much the car communicate (while sound is a part here, I would rank steering feel much higher, then how much I feel through seat) while doing 1 and 2
4. How much fun I would have (this becomes subjective, I like manual and NA high revving engine that's not to loud)

Given there aren't too many RWD options in India, this car might be something I might like in base version if I move back.

Re: MG Cyberster electric sportscar India launch in January 2025

As long as it is sub 70L on road, it will sell. It has more appeal than the EV6 and Ioniq for sure.

The MG brand is close to Kia and Hyundai in terms of positioning. It will be a second maybe even third car but then most EVs are.

The separate showroom might be an image booster, will have to see. If they add something like battery subscription to reduce the up front cost then who knows how well it might do

Re: MG Cyberster electric sportscar India launch in January 2025

Owning a convertible has been a boyhood fantasy of mine. Add to it the scissor doors. With this seemingly coming soon to our shores and with kids likely to move out in the next couple of years, could one contemplate owning this as their only car? What could be the likely pitfalls (other than the lack of the two rear seats which would not matter for a family of two)?

I am so tempted by this one to replace my Mini SE. And heck, maybe even the Cayman S. Living in Mumbai with a truly fun car teaches you the pointlessness of owning one apart from driving it on Sunday mornings to show off to a crowd. Cars are meant to be driven, but there are hardly any roads without traffic or horrendous speedbreakers except the straights of the sea link(s).

Re: MG Cyberster electric sportscar India launch in January 2025

I believe this product could be a halo product that could help MG enhance its brand image. Walking into an MG showroom and looking at the Cyberstar parked behind the other products could make potential buyers look at MG as an aspirational brand. Even if this does not sell in large numbers, it's still going to improve the perception of the brand in the minds of buyers who are evaluating MG against competitive product from TATA, Hyundai, Suzuki, Mahindra etc.

I recently came across a video on YouTube which explained how certain cars are known by the brand name, e.g an Aston Martin, Ferrari, Mercedes, JEEP etc, but a few others are known by their model names e.g Comet, Nexon, XUV etc.

I think MG is trying to position their brand into the gap between the premium and budget segments and the Cyberstar could be just the beginning of that.

I wont be surprised if it is offered for less than 50L.

Given how BYD has priced its SEAL, and how the KIA EV6 has failed it's price point, evident by the massive discounts it is offering and has come below 50L. Also the Z4 sells in minuscule number. So a price point of 70L, I am sure there wont be much takers.

Seeing all these "high performance" EVs,I wish the tech was introduced a few decades ago. Lesser emission and more bhp!

Just received an interesting gift from JSW MG Motor India. Came in a classy red-coloured metal box. The red colour made me think that it was something related to the Cyberster.

Opened the box and it was a bunch of chocolates with a #ColoursofCyberster on top. Guess this is an indication of what's to come. From the looks of it, I think there are 5 colour options - White, Red, Silver, Yellow and Grey:

Looked up online and found these colour options in the European market -

Ivory White:

Andes Grey:

Cosmic Silver:

Inca Yellow:

Diamond Red:

Hope we also get this interior colour option. I have a feeling that the peach tan-like shade interiors won't be very popular (reference image):

Re: MG Cyberster electric sportscar India launch in January 2025

Saw the cyberster earlier today in a MG Dealership. Frankly, I'm impressed with the product. It is a well proportioned design and it seems like a good package. However, at 72,000 EUR, it seems quite expensive. It may not be replacement for folk that enjoy a Petrol powered sports convertible (read BMW Z4/Boxster). It is meant for a new segment of buyers who could be first time convertible buyers. These are just my opinions though.
