re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

While there is no perfect car. I am in love with Mahindra BE 6e.

This reel completely resonates with my perception of this car.
This car is not for the Grown ups. It is for the "Kid" in you.

Kudos to Mahindra for bringing such a Hot EV in mass production.

re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

I have a pending Thar Roxx booking and the Roxx delivery date is far off (Jan 2026) in the future.
I have been thinking to switch to an EV considering tax waiver provided by Telangana government. BE 6E launch was pretty much at the right time. My highway travel is max 500 km in one day with 1-2 break.

I am expecting mid spec BE 6E on-road price to be closer to Roxx AX5L RWD D AT on-road price of ₹23.5 lakh in Telangana.
I will wait until Jan 2025 to find out range of 59kwH variant, couple of test drives of BE 6E to make an informed decision whether to switch to BE 6E for wait for Thar Roxx.

This is the first EV which is making me want to get one finally.
I am also close to 40 and am more inclined towards BE 6E. There is no car like BE 6E in the Indian market.
If the partition can be removed, then the interior will give a better feel. Since all my family members are under 5.6 feet, the rear space should not be a problem.

I don't know why Mahindra designers are obsessed with huge C shaped DRLs in their cars - XUV 700, XUV 3XO, BE 6E and XEV 9E.

I used my basic paint skills to remove vertical and bottom part of front DRLs on 6E and the car looks lot better to me. I hope it is possible to blacken out the DRLs without causing any the DRL to heat much.

It also allows one to remotely close all the windows in situations when one forgets to close them before deboarding. My humble Ameo has this feature, and I learned to appreciate this feature a lot.
If true, that's a bummer, given the rest of the tech package provided in these cars. I had noticed in one of the reviews, that it does have a feature to close any open windows when you lock it (BTW, windsor also have this option in settings). That is so convenient. In my old cars, I had added it by installing humble relays to do the job along with security systems, which costed hardly 2-3k. They have served me for years (actually decades!) without any niggle. I believe remote window operations, pre-cooling etc. should be possible in these cars regardless of auto-up/down and anti-pinch features (these 2 usually go along).

A few other weird things I have noticed from reviews I have seen so far:

1. Weird placement and operation of horn and other steering buttons, seems susceptible to unintended horn blows. I guess people will get used to it once they start using it.
2. Regen + is on left and - on right, seems counter intuitive and defying standard practices. It may create confusion if you use multiple cars wtih paddle shifter buttons. Or did they probably want to align with conventional (ICE) conventions, left=lower the gear=more regen braking for EVs? Seems possible.
3. You need to press window buttons up to roll down windows and vice versa! Don't know whether they are tryig to mimic some premium/luxury car here? Just like how they have done it for many other things.

I find front to be okay, I would want to do that for the rear. (and I am in high 40's ) Apart from that, I didn't like excessive creases and piano black claddings. I also didn't like this so called "cupe" design (mainly because it is form over function), and have almost come to hate the hype around it in curvv, and now these Mahindra. But since these cars pack so much and that too at a reasonable price point (fingers crossed regarding the pricing of higher variants), it is tempting. I don't feel as wary about quality/reliability/service concerns with Mahindra as I would for Tata. Based on what I hear around xuv700, niggles were there but they were of a lesser severity and they were more responsive to customer feedbacks and fixing them. Note: I don't own any Mahindra so far, so this is just my perception and it may be completely wrong too. I get an impression that overall quality/reliability of these cars will be considerably better than xuv700 (which is not too bad in itself), because of updated hardware/software and lessons learnt. Since they have used highly reputed suppliers and parts, and they seem to have given a lot of thought to each and every aspect (rather than just marketing hype), I won't hesitate to buy one at all. Even if there is some chance of being a part of beta testers. Rear space is also not a deal breaker since I am the tallest person in my immediate family at 5-7", though I would have liked it to be spacious like windsor regardless of that. So, to conclude, radical and flashy looks (which I count in negatives) become secondary to all the positives. I am sure it will eventually grow on me, especially if I go with one.

re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

Why electric cars are made so much tech-savvy?

I have a controversial opinion: having just 1 / 10 of the components available in an equivalent ICE car, the electric cars doesn't make any sense to the manufacturers in terms of maintenance. So, adding lots of tech makes up for it - in terms of bumping up the initial pricing and then for the ongoing maintenance activities.

Based on the launch video, starting from 2:25:33 in the link below the feature list of Pack-1 looks to be including most of the features (except HUD, ventilated seats and glass roof) and I believe 4-speakers with 2-tweeters should be enough. The price undercuts base variant of MG-ZS just by 9k.

After watching most of the video reviews, I didn’t find the autohold button , the electronic park brake seems to be on the gear selector but what about autohold function how to access it ?
And the start stop button seriously needs to be moved to same location as in XEV-9E

Pack one will not get following alloy wheels, glass roof, ventilated seats, PM 2.5 filter, 360 camera, power folding mirror, wireless phone charging, faux leather seat, powered seat adjustment, HUD, powered tail gate, etc.

re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

Does anyone have any video links to the different colours? Specially need to see how the Forest Green and Black shades would look like. These were missing in action during the media drive and the configurator is not very helpful. One of the videos (during the lauch/drive event) had the 9E in Black, but would help to see how the 6E would look.

I hope Pack 2 gets the following
Alloy Wheels
Glass Roof
360 Camera
Power Folding Mirror

These I consider as must haves (would normally not include Glass Roof in the list, but with dark interiors and a slightly tight rear space, this is important). The rest could be included in Pack 3.

Auto Hold is on the right side of steering wheel along with numerous other buttons.

No surprise there! I was expecting this would happen. Just unable to understand why Mahindra deliberately had to use the same name when it is well known that '6E' is callsign of Indigo.

Offtopic, but then AI is the callsign of Air India, but is a completely different terminology in the tech world. Vistara had a call sign of UK. So long as the domains are completely different, it should be okay.

I hope Indigo wins this one so Mahindra is forced to come up with better names. Right now the names sound like a discount coupon code lol.

re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

Reminds me of Ford renaming the Everest to Endeavor because of Everest spices. Not sure if they did it after a conflict but at least it avoided them a petty legal battle.

No one can predict when a company feels like suing for names. The company behind a video game called "No Man's Sky" was sued because a telecommunications company called Sky UK Limited thought that the name infringed on their rights! On the other hand, Suzuki has a car named Swift, and Apple has a programming language with the same name, and both companies are fine with it.
