Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review First off - great review. Thank you for all these details, which I was waiting for.
Next - big Kudos to Mahindra. They have really succeeded in making something very groundbreaking. Something everyone is talking about. And something that has really got a wide range of potential car buyers excited (including me - someone who was finding everything in the 40 lakh range very boring) So many have mentioned:
1 - too much black plastic (100% agree - huge pain) - look at most of the videos
2 - rear ingress/egress issues due to coupe style (100% agree) - folks have touched upon.
3 - Mahindra known for tech niggles (XUV700 still not free of digital gremlins) My personal gripes
1 - not enough customisation available on digital cluster. Why have a screen at all if you don't provide options like standard dials, customisable colours, different fonts etc.
2 - Auto park is super sweet. Been wanting it. The remote key parking is nice to have but there's a big miss. From what I can see, the remote parking has to be initiated from inside the car. If you come to the car and two other cars are parked on either side, you should be able to use key to drive the car out. But no - you have to get into the car, switch on car, go to parking mode on screen and tap remote key parking. That's absurd.
3 - Why or why did they miss out on a powered front passenger seat? They included so much tech only to miss out here.
4 - Interior selfie camera seems to be always on - always looking? I don't like that. There should have been an option to cover it (for those who are ok with disabling the attentiveness feature)
5 - The review mentions it, but is it actually double layer acoustic glass? I believe it is sort of like two layers of safety glass with an optically clear, acoustic damping material sandwiched in between. Double layer would increase cost - but they could have included this as an option in Pack 3. Acoustic glass all around.
6 - Given how bad the rear visibility is through the window, they could have included a digital rear view mirror (the camera is there anyway)
7 - Am really used to seeing the left and right camera views when you switch on the indicators. It is a really useful feature to see blind spots. Screens and cameras are both there already.
8 - I would have really liked to have rear AC blower controls in the back. Just an on/off. Some things you may have missed:
1 - The electric tailgate has a smart option (enabled in settings).*Walk to the back with key in pocket and stay there, boot opens automatically. Also, you have the foot waving option, I believe only in the 9e - not the 6e.
2 - Another BHPian was mentioning (forgot where) that they wished the car included a digital ICE sound generator. It does have that, again in vehicle settings. Sound comes through internal speakers only, but from the video I saw, it is not very loud and there are only 3 or 4 options (V8 included).
3 - The rear roll up curtain/shades are only in the XEV 9e pack 3, not available at all in the 6e on any pack.
4 - The tyres have a layer of foam inside for road noise reduction. a great feature.
5 - There are additional tail lamps which are only visible when the tail gate is open. A nice feature to have (it's a regulation in some countries) Some questions I have (in case anyone can expound):
1 - How many blower levels of ventilated seats does it have?
2 - How good are the LED headlights (coming from Seltos, which is pathetic, this is really important for me).
3 - Does it have LED front fog lamps? Do they double up as cornering lights?
4 - Seems like the aero covers on the alloy rims are plastic - can be easily removed. How do the 20inch wheels look like without the aero covers?
5 - Normally, key fobs have an actual key hidden inside (in case the battery fails). Is it there?
6 - What is the resolution of the screens?
7 - Do the steaming videos play in HD quality? can you choose streaming quality like you usually can in the OTT apps?
8 - Interface looks like it's built on Android (makes it easier for apps too) How does one download additional apps? Is it possible to 'sideload' apps and apks?
9 - Can the wireless charging pads be switched off? (I want a secure place to keep my phone but hate wireless charging). |
