I am sorry but I disagree with both your points.

NMC/NCA models are used in both long range and performance models. Tesla model 3 used to have LFP batteries in the lower range version and NMC batteries in the long range model and performance model. NMC/NCA batteries have both better mass energy density(good for performance) and volumetric energy density(better for range as you can have a bigger capacity battery in the same volume).

Please watch the above video to see how charging an NMC battery to 100% compares to charging it 80% over the life of the battery. This research was funded by Tesla. Restricting the max charge to 80% and only occasionally charging to full prolongs the NMC batteries life by a substantial amount.

Absolutely. For both, LFP & NMC ( or any other chemistry), charging to 100% results into degradation. For LPF, the requirement is for SOC estimation due to non linear voltage curve vs SOC. NMC have an ideal linear relation, hence they can easily get away. We have to understand the Pros and Cons of each chemistry, and ways to mitigate the degradation. I am trying to use my own approach for LFP cells.

That sounds great! A 12-year warranty is impressive.

Which brand of PPF did you go with? Was it a gloss or matte finish? The Satin White option is not available for the 9E; however, a matte PPF finish probably offers a similar appearance?

My friend got a Garware 10 year warranty ppf done about 3 years back on his lexus and about the same time got a coating done on his camry. They both get washed in the same way by the same person everyday and the lexus has far more swirls than the camry. This is because the "self healing" part of the ppf doesnt last too long and is not covered under warranty. PPF is even softer than a car's base clearcoat. Now the advantage of ppf is that the swirls are on the ppf and not on the paint - so it can be swapped for a new ppf every few years for a brand new looking car if you are willing to spend 1L +. I personally feel a ceramic coating is better value than ppf.

You are correct.

Now with 2-3000 cycles on NMC and 400 km range you get 1 million kms. If you drive 20k annually that's 50 years of life. Wanna still conserve 2% of the battery. And guess what's the point on an LFP.
You really don't have to be too careful here. Rest is upto you. Needless to say better be safe than sorry..(Agreeing with you.. but as I charge only on AC 3.3 on my LFP Atto3 once a week I don't bother too much).

Ooops..let me clarify again.. LFP is 50% cheaper that NMC but bulkier.. NMCs have great discharge so super efficient on power. The choices manufacturers make have many reasons... You will see more and more brands will fall in line as competition and value sensitivity heats up.

Including a few additional pictures and a video clip, taken under artificial lighting. As per Mr. Nikunj, Ruby Velvet looks better in person.

Thank you for the information. Is this specific to Garware, or does it apply to higher-end PPF materials as well? I’d also appreciate some clarity on how the warranty works - is it fairly standard across brands, or does it vary significantly?

Warranty will just cover manufacturing defects like excessive yellowing and delamination or tearing. None of the high end ppf cover scratches and swirl marks or rock chips on the ppf itself - they all claim self healing but i have seen plenty of high end ppf - the self healing only lasts 2-3 years since it is a very thin layer that is responsible for the self healing part and it wears off fast depending upon how it is maintained.

Self healing is not covered in warranty, even for the high end PPF?

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Hi Everyone,
I got the delivery of Mahindra XEV 9e on 7th April and till now I have driven around 797km total.
Last weekend I went on a trip from Gurugram to Jim Corbett and covered around 630km.
When i started the trip soc was 100 and we covered 310km with ac on during whole trip. When we reached the destination the soc left was 35% and range of 165km in the odometer. And similarly, on returning back i started with 95% soc and reached home with 29% soc and range of 173km.
Overall my experience with the car was amazing.
It's really an eye candy for everyone and people turns around to see the car.
While returning back home, a pebble flew from the tyre of another car ahead and hit my car windshield and now i can see there is a small crack on the windshield.
Is there anything i can do to fix it or shall i wait for the crack to grow and then claim the insurance?
Also i observed that following functionalities aren't working in the car.
  • Auto lock car, when moving away from the car.
I have checked this setting and it's enabled.
  • Auto unlock car, when reached to the gate of the car.
I have checked this setting and it's enabled.
  • Auto Park in/out car with key, move forward or back.
I tried by pressing the lock button twice, then pressed the ac button twice and then long press the ac button. It opened up the Orvms. After that i tried to move the car forward/backward by long pressing the buttons. But of no help.
I checked with the sales person about these points and he checked in other car too and the same isn't working.
Did anyone faced these issues too, if so any suggestions?

I hope the charger has built in leakage and surge protection , The switchgear M&M team installed is of reputed brand but not suited for the application.

For EVs we'd want a Type B RCCB/RCBO that can detect smooth DC leakages. The one they've installed is of Type AC that too of 2P rather than a 4P.

Similarly for SPDs
They've used one with Uc rating of 320V, Data sheets from L&K donot further specify if its L-N or L-L , either way it would cause nuisance.

Also they omitted the backup fuse for the SPD.
@Sushant_BVC - What is the recommended RCBO for a EV charger setup, I am planning to install 22KW Zevpoint charger which has max current of 32A. Strangely the company is recommending a C Curve breaker rated 40A which I am not sure is the correct one, I am not an expert in this topic but from what I read online, C curve breakers trip only when the overload current reaches 5x to 10x of the max rated current of the breaker. Which would mean in this case between 200A to 400A which seems high to me. Probably a B curve breaker makes more sense. But I am unable to find any RCBO with B curve characteristics and of course every one of them in india is of type AC, forget type B even type A is difficult to find.

Also what is the SPD you have installed?

These cracks are bound to spread as you drive. Best to claim insurenace and get it replaced.

Would recommend windshield repair as early as possible, before it worsens up from driving. If you are lucky, the crack would be small AND if the repair person is skillfull, it will be sealed for good.

Nevertheless, get this repair done and only if it worsens afterwards, get the windshield replaced.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Finally Took Delivery of My Car – A Mixed Journey but a Happy Ending

After months of delays, missed delivery promises, and a fair bit of frustration, I finally took delivery of my car last Thursday. What made it even more stressful was the confusion that lingered just day before delivery even after all RTO formalities were completed and nothing was pending. However, after several postponed dates since March, the wait finally came to an end.

Delivery Experience – A Bit Underwhelming
The delivery experience was honestly just okay. The dealership didn’t use a satin cover for the car, citing that the material could leave marks on the paint while lifting it. I accepted their valid reasoning and went ahead with a simple cake-cutting and key handover ceremony.

To preserve the memories of the day, I had hired a videographer from BMC HD Videos (not a promotion) to record the entire experience. I personally believe this is a great way to document a significant milestone in life. I'd highly recommend everyone to consider capturing your car delivery moments, it’s something special to look back on in the future.

First Impressions of the Car
The car looked pristine and spotless with 65 kms on the ODO. No initial niggles were observed. The Me4U app was set up right at the dealership and was activated within minutes. I’ve heard from others that it sometimes takes 3–4 days, so for anyone planning a delivery, do insist that your dealership activates the connected services on the spot.

Observations After 200+ Kms of Driving
Over the last 4 days, I’ve driven about 200+ kms and noticed a few issues:

1. EYEDENTITY Feature Not Working
This feature hasn’t worked at all since delivery. A service technician visited my residence but couldn't identify the issue. He assured me that he’d get back with a solution within a day or two.

2. Welcoming Mirror Issue
The side mirrors, which were initially auto-opening upon unlocking/approaching the car, suddenly stopped functioning from yesterday. This was working perfectly before.

3. Gaana App Quirk
While using the Gaana app (Bluetooth and Android Auto off), I noticed it continued playing even after I turned off & locked the car. I stood by for 10 minutes and it was still on. I had to restart the car and manually stop the music. Interestingly, this issue didn’t recur when the technician inspected it.

4. Inconsistent Range Estimation
This is one concern I’m still unsure about. The car’s displayed range and the app’s range don’t always match. Sometimes, a full charge shows 390 kms, and other times, it shows 375 kms. The technician mentioned it could be a software calibration issue and advised me to take a 100-km drive at an average speed of 90–100 km/h to allow the system to recalibrate and provide a more accurate range.

Would love to hear from any EV experts out here—does this advice sound right?

5. Screen Going Blank
The infotainment screen went blank twice but came back on after restarting the car. While it didn’t persist, it’s worth noting.

Final Thoughts
While these are all minor issues except the range inconsistency, I’m still optimistic. I’m planning a long drive this weekend to test the technician’s suggestion regarding the range recalibration.

If you've had similar experiences—especially with range accuracy or EYE DENTITY; I’d love to know your take. Also, for new buyers, don’t forget to get your app services activated during delivery itself, and if possible, capture the delivery moment on video; you won’t regret it.
