Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Hi all,

Quick update on the return trip from Chennai to Cbe.

Used Glida charging hub @ Pallikaranai to charge before starting back, there are multiple 60 kw chargers there accessible through Statiq app. There were a lot of taxis charging at 6:30 am when I went but finding a spot was not an issue. The process was not as seamless as Zeon as I had one failure at 12 percent of charging & then I had to switch guns. Though rated at 60 kw, after first 10 minutes I was getting charged only at 40 kw. I charged from 31 to 88 percent in about an hour and then stopped as I ran out of patience.

I started the trip with 88 percent charge, thought will try the trick proposed by Purohitanuj and set the mode to power saver. Reached Kallakuruchi A2B - 245 kms done with 37 percent charge left.
Huge shout out to Shyampsunder for both the auto charge trick ans the 120 kw location. I found the 120 kw charger and with auto charge the experience was another level - started charging @ 93kwh, then one me on pulled in and started charging with the other gun - charging dropped to 73kwh. Charge topped upto 71 percent in 23 mins before it got cut due to low balance. By this time lunch hadn’t even arrived, I felt this charge was more than sufficient to get us home and stopped charging at 71.
Drove back & reached with 12 percent charge left.
Summary of return trip
Total kms - 501.7 kms, total percent of battery 51+59 =110 % as against 116 % while going to Chennai, average cruizing speed of 66kmph as against 70, 6.3 km/kwh vs. 6km/kwh and total drive time of 7 hours 37 minutes vs 7:13.
Summary of total trip
Total kms 1027.7, average speed 62kmph, 16 hours 37 mins and efficiency of 6.1km/kwh.

Total DC charging done:
54.55 kWh at Zeon to & from.
67.62 kWh at Zlida hub Pallikaranaim
Total time spent charging:
1. 36 minutes during trip to Chennai - offset by time spent at a2b having breakfast.
2. 82 minutes spent early morning at Glida hub - time spent watching YouTube in the third screen!!
3. 23 minutes during return - waiting for lunch to arrive.

Total cost of DC charging:
Rs. 1602.8 at Zeon + 1345 at Statiq = Rs 3037.38.
Niggles faced on return trip.
Just 2 episodes of flash in the screen asking me to check wheel alignment.

All in al it was a very enjoyable trip, during the way to Chennai I drove like how I would normally drive an Ice car and the way back I was more sedate. The difference in time taken was less than ten minutes & the charging infrastructure atleast in this segment is excellent. I did not have any range anxiety whatsoever. We were three adults & two kids. I think in our normal highway conditions I would be getting anywhere between 420 to 460 kms regularly. Starting with a full charge, can plan for 275-350 kms before needing a top up.

This is about my experience with multiple Mahindra Dealers during the Booking Process of Both Thar Roxx and XEV 9E.

Nope neither are yet delivered. Planning to cancel all my bookings with Mahindra.

Facts speak for themselves:

1) Booked the Thar ROXX 4WD AT D AX7L in Burnt Sienna Colour, Booked by the 3rd minute as confirmed by the payment receipt and their acknowledgement message. Took 3 minutes as the portal just wouldn't work with GPay and I had to use BHIM. Secondly I had made a prior pre-booking payment to the Dealer Salasar Mahindra on Ghodbunder Road Thane, but the Sales Advisor called me 5 minutes prior to opening and told me to do my booking myself online. It took me more than a month to get the prior payment made back from the Dealer, as various excuses were given. Mahindra gave an indicative period of Feb 23rd to Mar 25th 2025. Received no further communication and on following-up in March was told by the dealer that the vehicle would be dispatched on Apr 25th tentatively and delivered in May.

2) Booked TWO XEV 9E Pack 3 in the first minute of launch. Again the same problem of Gpay not working but got BHIM to work fast as I was ready this time. One was Red from Salasar Mahindra and one was White from Modi Mahindra thane Wagle Estate. Later received multiple messages about a test drive being arranged and take by me for the Modi Hyundai booking. This was not really the case, implying someone else got the test drives that I had asked for. So I cancelled the Booking for the White XEV 9e. It took more than a month for this payment to be credited back to my account and required an escalation to Mahindra Customer Lack of Support.

3) This leaves two bookings with Mahindra Salasar. I am aware of individuals who have booked the XEV later than me and having received it in my locality. The ROXX booking too is delayed and there have been price increases.

4) I was indicated that my colours chosen were rare so I gave the dealer the option to deliver either a Red or a Green XEV in my variant or a Red or Burnt Sienna Thar Roxx in my variant. Escalated to customer lack of support and was redirected to the dealer. I would be told that XYZ person from the dealer would get in touch with me but that wouldn't happen.

5) Someone did get in touch with me eventually for the Roxx but informed that nothing can be done after searching for a Red or Burnt Sienna form 3 days.

6) Then the Dealership that I cancelled the White XEV 9e today contacted me that they have white, Black and Green Available. I agreed on the Green. The sales advisor after sharing the payment details backed out when I said that I would do my own insurance (or that they could match the quote), even though it is illegal for them to refuse this. He then said that he was getting me the car out of turn to explain why he wouldn't process this. I don't want a vehicle booked by someone else. Possibly they had a cancellation from others like me. I also feel that the same is true for Salasar who know that I would be doing my own insurance which saves roughly 70k.

7) Earlier I had planned to book another ROXX through a different dealer in Mulund "Hare Krishna", Bombay but that guy wanted to me sign a declaration accepting all responsibility for their test drive vehicle in case of an accident as it was not insured. Walked out. Giving a Driving license as proof of being eligible to drive is all I am prepared to do.

8) Now definitely won't be going for two of them, might take whichever comes first or just cancel them both, tired of this overall negative experience with Mahindra. I have an HEXA 4x4 XT and a BMW X6 30D with me presently and plan to let one of them go.

9) There are other inconsistencies and red flags but the above should give a clear enough picture. (Like Salasar has yet not given me a test drive for the XEV, or that I received a call for finance for the XEV from Salasar a couple of days back and they turned cold when I said that I didn't require finance.)

I like to Buy Indian Vehicles so have earlier owned a TATA SAFARI TCIC, TATA ARIA (First unit in Thane) and a TATA HEXA. My dad used to years back do outsourced Tanker Body Fabrication for TATA Trucks. So I have been a TATA loyalist but currently they have no 4x4 and life is too short to wait for them.

Tried various escalations and to sweeten the deal for them, as well as gave them other colour options. The experts would be able to see from the booking timelines and reference numbers that they are taking me for a ride.

Irrespective now planning to most probably cancel both. Don't know about my mood tomorrow, as I am myself busy with enormous office work till the 19th. I typically change a vehicle every 1.5 to 2 years and have been in two minds to decide which of the two or both or now none. Maybe a pre-owned GLS 350? GTO anyways doesn't recommend a plunge so soon into a new car launch. I have experienced multiple lemons and even received a 100% refund for the TATA Aria (Maybe that's why TATA is TATA) being a first lot buyer after 2.5 yrs and 62k kms, so maybe it's for the best.

But Mr. Anand Mahindra (We share Names and Abbreviation AM), it doesn't end with making a new vehicle, You repeated the booking faults of the ROXX with the XEV. All your dealers around me follow unfair practices. If a buyer after waiting for about 7+ months from the booking date still plans to cancel when just 10 days away from the dispatch date it should give you sufficient insight.

Booking Reference
pr47nmdba8f3c0 - XEV 9e Pack 3 - Red
Bdlbqtmu1i2X - Thar ROXX AX7L S AT 4WD - Burnt Sienna
pr47smz828ca13 - XEV 9e Pack 3 - White (which I cancelled but received a call for today in Green Colour - But with an insistence of buying insurance from them.)

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Let me clear some doubts of some who are having range anxiety, unable to get proper range etc etc. This car can easily give above 8km/kwh, with AC on.The only thing that you need to care about is the way you use the power of the vehicle as follows:-
1. When you press the race pedal, try to watch the power usage measure on the DID. Its on the lower right corner. Make sure it doesn't go above 20%.
2. You can occasionally drive above 90kmph but make sure you stay there most of the time. Use it to overtake vehicles only.

All of this is for the default mode only. I was able to get 8km/kwh on the Chandigarh- Delhi highway.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Hello All

After reading about so many issues of XEV 9E I am getting worried about my decision . Would like to once again ask the current owners if they would still recommend XEV 9E. I had booked this car within few minutes of booking opening time . I plan to take delivery on July 15th and I have shortlisted white color . Hope it's a good color choice .

This car would be used by my wife (Chauffeur driven) on her daily commute to Delhi from Gurgaon . Prime reason for selecting this car was back seat comfort and minimal body roll as per various reviews .

With so many issues wrt to software glitch , range anxiety , poor service standards for Mahindra EV , I am having second thoughts now . In case I want to explore other options which SUV would u recommend ? I can wait if any new SUV under 40L is coming this year .

We already have Skoda Superb 1.8 TSI and BMW GT6i in our garage .

Your recommendation and feedback on XEV 9E would be highly appreciated.

Regards

The reviews seem pretty neutral compared to the launches by Mahindra in yesteryear, though if you want complete peace of mind it would be best to wait for sometime as Mahindra often sorts out such niggles only through public feedback.

The only glare is that this car itself is a pilot to test Mahindra's EV capabilities, the Catch 22 is if you wait for them to sort there may not be a car left to sell

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

A friend has crashed his 9e to a tree. The crash seems quite harsh but the car has held up quite good.

Might be one of the first in india.

Can you please let me know how to activate the Power Saving Mode on the car? I tried searching in the Manual and in the menus on the car, but couldn't figure.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

All those struggling with "Mahindra will not give me the car if I do not get the overpriced insurance" I would recommend you to hold your purchase intent for 6-12 months.

You have only but to gain from it.

1. Hype settles
2. Demand will be less
3. Maybe, just maybe they have a better dealing with the niggles which will obviously come.
4. From the day they have a car available in stock, they will never push overpriced insurance, they will at least match your quote of insurance.

Remember the days of the new thar, 1.5yr waiting, 1.5L rupees of accessories was a must to buy the car. Today you would face none of that as demand has dwindled.

Navigate in the centre console to energy option, then click on battery option. Here you will find a tab to switch on power saving mode

We have been using 9 E black color since 22nd March 2025 and near 1270 km.

Chaffeur driven and within the city.

No software glitches till date, using only within the city, charging once a week,

Regarding service standards for Mahindra EV- Technical help from Chennai called for support and used it once to reset TPMS and persistent boot open alarm. The car was picked up and delivered home by a Mahindra service team. No complaints now.

Our driver, who was driving a BMW GT, was happier on the 9E than the BMW when the car was swapped on one day.

You have the liberty and the opportunity to hear the opinions of many owners of 9 E till July.

Got my own insurance. Initial quote from showroom -1.9 lakh, final quote just before delivery: 1.15 lakh .
Got insurance on my own- 1-year term on my own damage (zero depreciation, consumables, key cover, electric surge secure, RSA, tire secure, alloys, rodent cover, emergency transport and emergency medical, return to invoice and 3rd party for 3 years.
I will start a separate post on this later.

50% NCB transferred from old corolla

Amount paid 70000.
Insist on self-insurance and don't succumb to pressure. You are at liberty to take insurance from anyone.

Yes, all EVs have small batteries that are used for starting and for electronics like windows and the sound system. These batteries do not require any starting during a 15 day vacation. I have left my MG ZS EV and MG Astor for over 2 months quite frequently and they always start without any issues.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

I'm in 2 minds on whether to buy the 9e or wait for the 7e (Head vs. Heart)

Basis your experience thus far:

- Do you wholeheartedly recommend the car or recommend waiting it out
- Any deal breakers you have seen, either in terms of issues/niggles

Appreciate your insights.

Absolutely! I see these cars as bang for buck! The XUV700EV is still not clear that will it be a ground up EV on Inglo platform! I would say if the space of XEV 9E suits, then go for it!

XUV700 EV (XUV e8) is also based on the INGLO platform. You can refer to the below links for more details.

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/elect...ml#post5380410 (Mahindra Born Electric Vision concept EVs to be unveiled on August 15, 2022)

https://www.mahindra.com/news-room/p...inglo-platform

XUV700 EV(XUV e8) was supposed to launch before XEV 9e, but Mahindra pulled in the launch of XEV 9e, maybe not to cannibalize the sales of XUV700 for the time being.
