Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

One of the best things i liked about these new cars is the fact that they have proper blind spot warning on the ORVM. The current Xuv700 doesn't, just shows a feed from the ORVM camera on the MIS which isn't as useful.

So I presume the face-lift XUV700 should get it as well, along with the electronic tailgate

I agree to your observation.

Moreover its rear wheel drive with very high power on wheel, which make me nervous to share roads with these new gen fast cars. But this observation may be true for many future EV launches. Need to be cautious more on the road now.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

I didn’t see any mentions of which BMS is being used here. Is it M&M in-house BMS or are they procuring from a supplier?

It’s a crucial component and needs to be reliable and well integrated for the car owners to have some peace of mind.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Do both BE6E and XEV support V2L functionality?

Also is it preferable to charge 7.2KW AC charger than the 11kW AC charger when charging at home to prolong long term battery health?

Yes, they offer V2L as per reviews.

Does not matter 7kw or 11kw, the difference is very small, the car is capable of atleast 150kw. AC charge speeds are too small for this car.

Thanks any idea if one can charge from a normal 15 amp 3 pin socket (used to power our Fridge/AC) directly? If yes how long would it take for a 0-100 charge?

XUV400 manages this in 13 hours.

A portable charger can pull about 12A to 13A from the 15A socket or about 2.9 kW. Any higher kW charging would require a direct connection with a wall box charger to the MCB, skipping the 15A socket.

It would take more than 20 hours to charge a EV with 59 kWh battery from a regular 15A socket.

The 11 kW wall box charger when set to 11 kW charging will require a 3 phase connection. Like most chargers they can work with single phase connection limited to 7 kW output.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Mahindra's EV (Born Electric- BE) sales plan:

-M&M to sell EVs through existing sales network to offer all choices under one roof.

- No exports as of now, only will cater to domestic market. Once successful RHD and then LHD markets would be looked into.

- The company has created a production capacity of 90,000 units per annum at its Chakan plant for BE 6e and XEV 9e which it aims to further scale up to 1.2 lakh units per year.

- Based on the INGLO EV platform, the automaker plans to introduce five electric SUV models under 2 brands XUV and the all-new electric-only brand called BE.
Legacy brands will come under XUV brand while the all-new electric models would be rolled out under the BE lineage.

With this motor and a 79kWh battery pack, the claimed 500km real-world range should be achievable.

Looks are divisive and, to me, Mahindra has gone overboard, but there will be plenty who like it. The specs, features and space on offer is impressive. It will be interesting to see how Mahindra prices the top-end version.
The blade battery from BYD is considered legendary and a break from the past in terms of battery technology. The motor apparently sourced from VW shouldn’t throw up any unpleasant surprises. So as you have rightly pointed out the basics have been sorted out. The design of these two models from Mahindra appears to be futuristic and down the line it could be tweaked based on consumer feedback in future versions/upgrades.
But the singular fact remains that Indian automotive industry is rapidly coming of age propelling itself into the front ranks which appeared to be wishful thinking not very long ago. Mahindra deserves a pat on the back.
This onslaught by Mahindra is bound to put other manufacturers on notice and before long we can witness the electric cars taking centre stage with the charging infrastructure growing in tandem.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

I quite like this car (9e) over the 6e:

Positives I see
  • Loads of rear and boot space. Not concerned about the head room, as we don't have 6 footers in the household.
  • 79 kwh possibly at around 27 odd lakhs sounds mouth watering to me.
  • Fundamentals are outsourced to Valeo and BYD. So powertrain looks strong on paper.
  • Being a local manufacturer, I don't need to wait for months for a non-critical component unlike the eMax7.
  • Advertised charging looks good. Although there aren't a lot of high powered chargers except Zeon.

Concerns
  • Break by wire: Was it necessary?
  • Triple screen is an eyesore. Hopefully that passenger screen can be turned off.
  • Life of R19 and R20 on our roads. Have seen enough R18 stories from the Alcazar and Hector.

Neutral
  • Still trying to figure a strategy of how to charge this thing. Related question below.
  • Have to figure how to handle this 4795x1905 elephant. Might've done it, had I brought the Crysta. Driving a 4500x1800 as a daily driver, How hard can it be?
  • Mahindra's handling initial lots. Them handling the 500 and the soft release 40 clocking a steady 900 units without any marketing inspires some confidence.

Questions
  • Can the rear seat hold a child seat and 2 people abreast?
  • Are the rear middle headrest removable?

Very outline calculation, it will take 27 hours for the 79 kwh variant. And this is if it draws kw all the time, which does not happen. One has to expect upwards of 30 hrs from the portable charger.

That brings a related question (for those who have lived with LFP cars). There is a recommendation to perform equalisation charge on LFPs. Can the car be DC charged to say 60 or 80% and then AC charged at home to 100%?

Overall it looks like Mahindra will seal its second place ahead of Hyundai in 2025 Q2.

I don't think that will happen. As far as I know, the auto park systems also rely on the ultrasonic sensors (and possibly the multiple radars in this case) while in operation using key fob. It's not just reliant on key fob inputs like a remote control car.

so if there is an obstacle (even yourself, or another vehicle passing), the car stops moving, even if the key fob button is being pressed.

additionally, one of the reviews (Faisal's) mentioned that the total distance the vehicle can travel in key fob operation mode is 7 metres - which would improve safety.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

While there are many too many talking points for the two new Mahindra born EVs, I would like to thank Mahindra for bringing head-up display and park assist to mainstream cars. Hoping that after ADAS and ventilated seats, these features will make it to the top spec version of many more C/D segment cars.

Pratap Bose on the design philosophy behind Mahindra BE 6e and XEV 9e

Kushan Mitra, the automotive journalist from ThePrint, interviewed Pratap Bose on the philosophy behind the 2 new Mahindra EVs - BE 6e and XEV 9e.

  • How both these cars were the first 2 electric cars designed from scratch?
  • How do more conservative buyers react to such radical designs?
  • How UI/UX of the display systems is an important part of the overall design?
  • How can someone get into automotive design?

These were some of the points that were discussed in this interesting interview.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

WOW There are so many polorising openions on this thread alone. Mahindra has surely succeded in creating such a huge buzz for new car launch, especially in EV sector. I can only imagine the EV car interest souring high when aam janta sees one of these on road being driven in couple of months time. 500kms+ real world range in around 20lakhs, bring it on

Years down the line when someone looks back at the EV history in our countly this launch surely be looked as landmarks which has potential to change the entire sector.

Mahindra has really nailed it in terms of performance. That is so satisfying and proud feeling as an Indian. Looks are always subjective but how I wish there was no gloss black clading on the exterior. For now only way around is buy a black XEV I guess. I have plans to by a EV sometime next year or in 2026. Hope these machines will be more evolved by then.

Looks like there will be Mahindra Chakan factory tour for auto journalists on 7-8th Jan. Sidharth talking to M&M Executive director.

Here Pratab Bose talking about designing these EVs. Given that he was given clean sheet to design anything, he could have choosen more safer design. He instead came up with something which shouts 'love it or hate it but can't ignore it'.
