Re: Step-by-Step Guide: Dedicated EV Charger Connection in MSEDCL, Maharashtra

Thanks for the input, this is really helpful. I uploaded all the documents, there is a provisional note which is available to download and I am also getting a prompt to pay the provisional estimated amount. I do not want to pay before visiting the office, what would be the right thing to should I visit the MSEB office submit the docs get the formalities done or make the payment now, hoping that with the payment done they will complete the process faster.

Please don't make the payment now. First, visit the MSEB office with documents. Once they verify everything, you will receive a payment link message and then you can make the payment. The current charges shown to you will be updated later once they verify everything. If you pay now, you will have to pay the difference later. Hence, it is better to make the payment only after the verification.

Re: Step-by-Step Guide: Dedicated EV Charger Connection in MSEDCL, Maharashtra

Hi Sir, I am from Maharashtra and MSEDCL consumer. I just got the BYD Seal. The technician who came to install the charger suggested me to get a dedicated EV meter. He further told me to get a EV meter that I should get 10 to 40 ampere meter. Which meter did you get? any idea how to get 10 to 40 ampere meter.

For a 40 Amp load he is suggesting a 10 Kwh meter which as car as I am aware is NOT manufactured for single phase users. You need a matching current transformer which matches the current limit of your electric meter. Generally these metera can handle 7.5 Kw hr loads but 5 kw is a safe limit fir single phase( talking in terms of domestic power connextions which are limited to 5kw fir single phase. For higher connected load a 3 phase power supply with a 3 phase power meter having suitable current transformer coils on all three phases is installed. ) If your charger is single phase prefer a single phase supply. Even better if the electric supply company can sanction a 10kw load. In that case the electrician will kniw which meter to fit.

Just ensure that when the MSEB officer asks which EV you are getting, respond by stating you have booked Nexon or Punch and will be getting delivery soon. Since these are popular models, the conversation should end with it.
Thanks for the detailed information. Also can you please brief about what will be the minimum monthly fixed charges for a single phase 7.5 kw meter under MSEDCL . I stay in Pune and plan to buy a Mahundra XEV soon

Re: Step-by-Step Guide: Dedicated EV Charger Connection in MSEDCL, Maharashtra

Thanks Linuxworld for the detailed process. It did help me to make an application. However, now its been over 10 days the surveyor is yet to come and provide the exact estimate. My home is just 10 mins walk from MSEB office, but the fellow did not have time to make a visit. Not sure, what more surprises I am going to get for meter installation.

Its quite frustrating to say the least. I have had to charge my vehicle at a near by mall. Atleast that was quite hazzle free but expensive. But I would stilll need convenience of an home charger any day.

Looks like I need to pull some strings up at MSEB. Did not want to do it earlier, having faith in the system, but, I guess, that presumption proved wrong.

Take care

I recently got my 3 phase EV meter installed in Bhandup West Mumbai. Procedure was more or less as described except the Activity Category which the Mahavitran guys mentioned should be (20005 House with vehicle charging station for own vehicle only) and not the Charging Station category as that is for commercial use. Its a technical difference but better to be aware. Also note society NOC is a must as without that neither Mahavitaran nor Mahindra charger installation team will entertain you. Hope this helps.

I got shocker today, service connection charges are nearly 15k and with that I need to pay nearly 24k + TR(Testing report) which based on discussion it wont be free.

I opted for 3phase meter instead of single phase and with 11kw load capacity.
Location Thane(Mumbai MMR area).

If anyone installed similar load capacity charger can you confirm if this much required to pay?

I also got my sanctioned load increased to 15kw for installing the Mahindra 11kw charger. While the security deposit amount is in line with what I was asked to pay, there was minimal service connection charge.

However, I increased the load of my existing connection than go for a new connection. Is that something you could go for?

I wanted to get new connection, so we can enjoy less tariff/charges for EV (flat Rs.6/unit+taxes). If I go with residential/existing meter, I will be paying too much as my current usage is already high and near 500 units. If I charge my EV on existing meter then I will be paying at least Rs.23-24/Unit including taxes. so based on that understanding I went with new connection but service connection charges are too much and I wanted to know if someone already gone through and are these normal charges.

Thanks for this info. Have you got your latest bill generated which reflects the fixed slab rate (Rs. 6 + Taxes) with this option? Also, what was your overall installation charges?

Did you check with someone from the MSEB regarding the high service connection charges? are they laying some new wires for your meter connection?

Yes, I had discussion with them and they said as I am opting for 3phase meter, these are the charges. If I would have gone with Single phase meter, the charges would have been 6-7k. There is just 1 feet wire required and new meter will be beside my current meter.
