According to reports, BYD's Seagull EV registered 46,830 units of sales in August in its home market, making it China's best-selling car overall, irrespective of the powertrain.



Also, what's more interesting is that seven of the top 10 best-selling cars in China in August were from BYD. All seven BYD models were a mix of plug-in hybrids or pure EVs. The carmaker, which is asserting its dominance even in its home market, registered around 373,000 units of sales (EVs & PHEVs combined) in August. EV-only sales figures of BYD stood at 148,470 units last month.

BYD is planning to launch the Seagull EV in Europe sometime next year. The Seagull EV, though, even with the EU tariffs and markups, could be one of the most affordable models in Europe, carrying an estimated price tag equivalent of around $20,000.

The most affordable variant of the BYD Seagull EV sells at a price equivalent to just under $10,000 in China. It is said to be sized similarly to the Chevrolet Bolt and features a 30 kWh battery pack with a 305 km range as per the Chinese test cycle. There is also a higher variant with a 38 kWh battery pack with 405 km of range on the CLTC cycle, sold for $12,000.
