It will be a pain to call service technician every time to reduce or increase the kW limit.
I believe Statiq charger has this possibility at user end. They are agressively selling it these days including 36 months EMI option of INR 1230.

Even I updated my current load to 10KW from 7KW. I guess in summers I will have to plan the charging to not interfere with the AC usage. But i guess it will be alright as this charger hits a peak of 7KW. Usually it is between 6.5-6.8 KW. So with that I can just turn on a 1 Ton and 1.5 Ton AC. When I had gone to increase the load I had spoken to the officer asking what happens if I surpass my load usage. They said all appliances work normally and on their end they just check if the user is using load near to their sanctioned load. Slight fluctuation is alright but say sanctioned load is 10KW and user is using 13-15KW then a penalty is levied.

Alternatively, say I know 40 kWh would be required when the battery is just below 10%, I fix the charge to 40 kWh followed by auto shut down, I always find the car with 97 to 98% charged in the morning.
Even i followed the same method but I just have access to scheduling and charger live status. I was looking for the internet related stuff. I think we can even manage scheduling from the iSmart app under ev management. What I have also observed is that after the charging is complete the car automatically shuts down the charger. On the iSmart app it just shows charging complete and on the Spin ev app it shows charging stopped or paused and the green light turns from blinking to solid.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

I just found an annoying issue with the car today. So I had installed a dashcam today by connecting it to the USB port. Now in the evening when I put the car to charge, I noticed the cam won't switch off. Seems like if the car is charging, the USB port also starts receiving power as the battery is working to keep the instrument cluster on. My concern is this might drain out the 12V battery as the cam is not even running on the parking mode. Don't understand why the USB port needs to get power while the car is charging. Now I'm having to disconnect the cam every time I'm charging the car.

So what I was told by a service center agent is that in an EV, the 12V battery charges itself in 3 scenarios in an EV. First is when the car is running. Second is when its battery drops low, it just takes power from the main battery, and third is when you charge the vehicle, it charges itself by drawing power from the charger or main battery.

So there is no need to worry that the 12V battery will drain out. If you go to the iSmart app usually the small battery will be at 12.4-12.7V but while charging it goes beyond 14V as it is charging itself. It's a sweet feature to have to be honest as my father always get anxious for our ICE vehicle whenever it is the garage for a long time as he fears that if we don't drive the car the 12V battery will drain out. Luckily in EV this problem is automatically solved.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Have anyone noticed that, the charging port opens if you press it, even if the car is locked. Isn’t that something which is concerning ? Anybody could damage the charging port even if the car is locked. We need to raise this issue to MG motors.

This is the issue with most new launches like eVitara and the Mahindra twins but would be sweet to have it locked like it happens in the Tata's

Exactly my point! This seems like a very wrong move as any miscreant can cause damage to the charging port/flap/internals even when the car is locked.
This being India, I believe the port should be linked to the central locking.

I checked the same with the service centre & even the dealership and both of them said that the flap remains open throughout.

I also had the same concern because if in traffic, someone walking by accidentally squeezes it open, that flap is the first thing that is going to go missing.

MG Windsor BaaS scheme chosen by 15 percent of buyers.

Top-spec MG Windsor Essence trim accounts for 80 percent of bookings.

The brand has also revealed that it receives approximately 200 bookings a day.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

I have another question regarding charging practices.

1. Does anyone know how many charge cycles the LFP battery in the Windsor has?

2. I read the manual, and it says after every 4 fast charges or opportunity charges, one should charge the battery to 100% but I read at many places that the 100% is just to help the BMS determine the max range and doesn't help with maximising the life of the battery. Some say to maximise the life of the battery we should charge only till 80% but then doing that will not help determine the accurate range. So what is the best solution for this? How to get the maximum life out of your EV?

3. What is the best way to cycle the LFP battery? 10-80%, 20-80%, 30-80%, 10-100%, 20-100%, 30-100% or just cycle it from 20-60%? Any previous EV owners before the Windsor who have experience in this?

4. When I leave my Windsor with my parents, they don't use it a lot. They charge it once or twice a month. So should the car be charged upto 100% each time because I feel charging to 100% once or twice a month won't affect the BMS or life or should I just charge it upto 50-60% as the car just goes out for short distance every 3-4 days so in a way it is standing in the garage for half the week.

Please follow the manufacturer instructions on battery recharging or risk loss of warranty!

Yes, same happens with my Punch EV.
Solution is easy - I use 12V socket instead of USB port.

The problem with the Windsor is the positioning of the 12V socket. Since it's under the driver's armrest, it's difficult to get the wiring of the dashcam till there in a neat way which doesn't show much.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Is anyone here too facing charging issues with JioBp. I am facing the low balance wallet error with no resolution from the ehub support team since 1 week. Additionally, i have noticed my windsor facing charging issues at multiple chargezone and adani chargers whereas other cars were easily getting charged right next to me. I would get an error msg stating charging abrubtly disconnected by charger and reconnecting it again returns the same error

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

MG has sent a notification that Jio BP chargers are not going to be available as free charger untill they sort out the issues with them, so if you still want to charge you can do that by logging in with a different mobile number and paying as required. I have charged at different chargers but not faced any issues as such, you can call the chargers customer care number to check if there is any issue which they can sort out.
