Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Hello All,

I currently own a 2020 Tata Altroz (petrol), which I mostly use on weekends or occasionally just to keep it running. For my daily 25 km commute, I rely on my Dominar 400.

Lately, I've been considering upgrading to the Windsor EV, which is priced around ₹16.3 lakhs on-road in Hyderabad (with no road tax applicable until December 2026). I'm thinking of selling both the Altroz and the Dominar and switching to the Windsor EV for daily use.

Interestingly, my current monthly expenses on EMIs and petrol are roughly equal to what the EMI for the Windsor would be.

Would love to hear your thoughts or suggestions on this move.

What was the traffic on the roads for the 64kms you drove and what was your driving/regen mode set to?
I too get ~200-210kms range when car is used only for office commute where I drive 30kms daily and it takes 2+hrs to travel (a lot of bumper to bumper traffic). This is in eco/heavy regen mode.
However I easily get 280-290+ range when I drive in the RingRoad/Highway and maintain a speed of 60-90km (eco/heavy regen).
From my experience in heavy traffic we dont get good range in this car , is this behaviour same on other EVs as well ? Any tips from experienced folks to increase range in heavy traffic ?

I would personally suggest to look for a pre owned Comet for your daily city drives while you keep the Altroz. Windsor is huge and has little advantage as a city drive. I was in a similar connendrum and chose to keep my VW Ameo TDCI for highways and bought a MG Comet. I drive the Ameo once a month and Comet almost daily. It is a blessing for metro cities. You will need to do some maths to fit in a Comet and need to keep patience for a pre-owned one.

Is that because of traffic or because of running cost? If it is traffic then Comet makes sense.

For the usage you mentioned, how does this math checkout? For a 2020 car, you should be borderline loan free

I won't say terrible traffic but regular delhi traffic where it takes about 30 mins for 10 km distance (now that I write it, it dawns how we've gotten used to slow crawling traffic). I've been using Normal mode with high regen.
I had been driving with AC set at 21 degrees in auto mode. I've changed that to 23 degrees with fan speed 3 since today morning and have gotten a range of about 225 for the 40 odd km I have driven since morning. Still a short time frame I guess and will observe for a little longer, but think it is quite sensitive to AC settings

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Experiencing a wierd issue after the latest sota update. Even after switching off my car, locking it and moving away, the music still continues to play from android auto until i pause it from the mobile. Tried emergency shutdown everything, the music keeps playing from the speakers. Can be a serious issue with this update if it causes battery drain

While I am not facing this issue after update, are you sure it was mentioned to do factory reset after update? Do you have any screenshot for the same?

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Hi, I've driven 1.5k kms on the windsor. Here are a few things of note

1. As previously mentioned in this thread, the fake speakers on the doors do vibrate and make an irritating high pitched noise sometimes either due to bumpy roads or bassy music.

2. Does anyone else feel the drivers side speaker volume is turned down by like 50%? I'm guessing this is a safety feature. My last car was a polo so I'm not aware if this is standard in cars these days. Anyone else notice this?

I don't understand how this is possible when the claimed range itself is 3.3 km per percent. I usually get between 2.8-3.1km per percent. Can this be an error in the instrument cluster where it is showing incorrect battery left or incorrect kms drive post the software update. I mean I don't mind clocking more range of 3.64 kms per percent but just wondering how all of a sudden this happened. Also, I should mention that I was driving the car in ECO mode heavy regen, and the AC was 23.5 degrees at fan speed between 1 and 2 but I usually drive the car in the same mode and same AC settings. The only difference was that there was no traffic in the morning and the outside temperature was cool, but I doubt that should result in such increased range.
Getting accurate reading for remaining battery percentage is extremely difficult in LFP batteries due to the flat discharge curve.

So take the reading by pinch of salt as its just approximation. You will be surprised how that is calculated. Manufacturers can not just display remaining percentage based on travel distance as it will not consider AC running while idling, varying loads, road slopes and regens happening. So what they do is they count how much batter ampere was used to power battery and how much regen happened. So consider it as a separate software counter doing all this and it resets every time car charges to 100%. Hence all LFP car manufacturers recommends to charge battry to 100% once in a while to have better accuracy in range calculations.

One need to check how much range he gets from 100% to 10% or maybe 5% remaining battery. That is the only way one can know how much he can get from almost full battery.

By the way my car gives 6-7km per % when battery is above 60%. Full range comes to 260-270km though.

My battery SOH was 100% in first service, 99.99% in second service at 3600km.

By the way, I did latest software update and now my phone is not connecting to carplay. Is anyone else also facing this?

Earlier I used to get almost 35-40 km between 90-100%. Initially 5-6 km per % and then starts dropping. Finally the average range would settle between 260-270km for full charge. But after multiple charging sessions, off late I get fairly uniform 26-28km km per 10% right from 100%.

After the recent update, the carplay connections got reset and I had to forget the car in my phone and reconnect it. No issues post that.

During my recent charging session I noticed speeds reaching upto 52kwh. Previously it used to top out at around 48kwh. I thought 45kwh was supposed to be the max charging speed.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

I saw the MG Windsor EV recently. Car looks big and comfortable, perfect for family. It drives smooth and has some cool features like touchscreen and comfy seats. Range is fine for daily use, but for long drives it might be a bit less. Overall, looks like a decent EV for city use.
