Why all these Maybachs have ugly alloy wheels? Is it some kind of art which common people cannot appreciate?

The first thing I am going to do after buying this car(after winning 20crore lottery) is swap the alloys.

Very likely, this alloy wheel design reduces aerodynamic drag and also tyre/wheel noise.

Honda Civic hybrid had these wheels:

I just can't wrap my head around Mercedes nomenclature. Why can't be there some sort of differentiation in electric sedan/suv naming, Till now EQS was the electric counterpart of S Class, now what?

re: Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV | A Close Look | Launched at Rs. 2.25 crore

I recall the days when Maruti used to call the Zen "jellybean body".

The Mercedes (and from that matter even BMW) from being sharp cut and classy have gone to this jellybeanish look which I still cannot wrap my head around. Don't blame them entirely but don't like it either.

Yes, taste varies a lot and also changes as you age or probably get richer So, not necessarily bad. Also as mentioned by Smarty, most EVs have a similar setup for aerodynamics.

They have been selling both EQS Sedan and EQS SUV and as reported in another news recently, they will stop EQS (sedan).

I haven't seen this car in person yet but it looks a good option for local commuting. We have seen how Toyota can sell the van at 2 Cr plus so we can expect this on the roads rather than showroom unlike EQS- sedan.

I think the EQS sedan is not successful due to abysmal road clearance and limited features in the rear seat. It's a very good car otherwise. We don't get EQS SUVs in India. Probably MB India messed up or they could not get allocations.

Hard as I try, this Maybach spec car does not wow me. The 'regular' flagship models of the Germans are so good that the special edition does not really stand out, nor does it come across as striking as a Bentley / Rolls Royce.

One of the more challenging and also satisfying projects I completed in 2018-19 for Mercedes Benz. The idea was to get the Helix light signature in the production cars, as was showcased in the EQA concept. The lamp consists of two elements, the front part of the Helix and the coils at the back. Design wise was quite a challenge, as the Helix elements had to have a 3D structure, look similar, while still having a dynamic proportion, as one views it from side to the back. Production wise was also a challenge as the body side part had to have five different tooling directions and pretty complex geometry.

Are there enough features like ADAS and Lane Assist in the Car? Without these features, is the price in today's economy justified? Will the service costs will be over the top?

re: Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV | A Close Look | Launched at Rs. 2.25 crore

Excellent write-up and pictures, Aditya!

The vehicle screams luxury and exclusivity from all angles and is sure to attract a lot of eye-balls out on the roads.

I can't help but remind myself of this post on our forum earlier about the vanilla EQS:

Quote:
"According to a media report, a study claims that Mercedes-Benz's flagship EV, the EQS, offered in sedan, SUV and AMG iterations, lost almost half its value after just one year of ownership.

The report states that after just one year of the luxury EV rolling out of the dealership, prices of the EQS dropped by as much as 48.7% of its average new price. This translates to around $65,143 - about the same price as a brand-new E-Class."
EV battery prices too, have been dropping and are expected to continue to fall as noted here.
