Nice calculation. Why did you consider a 15% improvement in continuous driving? I am not an expert, but I believe EVs perform better in the city than on highways. Correct me if I am wrong.

Mostly wrong, driving on highways with Regen 0 yields better range, the city being better vs highway is mostly a western thing where highway average speeds are much higher and make EVs inherenty inefficient at such high speeds. But in India for all practical purpose highway range is always better @ sub 90kmph speeds.

In my limited experience, highway has yielded a much better range.

My regular commute to office of approx 42 kms takes 12-13% charge. These 42 kms take 3hr 15 mins

Today had to drop family members at Bengaluru Airport. The trip is 80% a fast moving highway, and 20% Outer ring road. For 58 kms roundtrip battery was depleted by 14% only.

Over the weekend did a 94 kms early morning short drive towards north of Bengaluru to click some pics where in there were a lot of stop starts. Used adaptive cruise control for atleast 20 kms. Battery consumption: 22%

All the drives mentioned above in city mode with regen level 1.

Re: Tata Curvv EV Review

I drove my Curvv 55kw from Pune to Pandharpur and Return Trip (No Mile Munching)

Highway Average Speed: 65 km/h
Maximum Speed: 122 km/h

We started with a 100% charge from home and took a 20-minute charging break en route at the Shree Veg ChargeZone 60 kW charger. The peak charging speed reached 58 kW, topping up the battery from 68% to 95%(14 Units). Half of the journey was driven by my friend, who was driving an EV for the first time.

During the return trip, I used a Statiq 60 kW charger for the first time. I charged for 20 minutes, which increased the battery from 30% to 58% (17 Units).

We reached home with 25% charge remaining.

Total Distance: 513 km

Average Energy Consumption (AEC): 136 Wh/km

Driving mode - City, Regen 0 on highway. Regen used1-2 during traffic, city and breaking only.

Pardon my ignorance, but I am new to the EV space.
How do you read this? I was of the opinion of the 55 Kw Kilometers covered on a single KW should give the efficiency figures. Km/Kw just like we have Km/Litre for ICE.

No problem! In the EV world, efficiency is often measured in kilometers per kilowatt-hour (km/kWh), similar to km/liter for traditional cars.

For my car, the average energy consumption (AEC) is 136 watt-hours per kilometer (WH/km). This means it uses 0.136 kWh to travel one kilometer (since 1 kWh = 1000 Wh). To convert this to km/kWh, you take the reciprocal: (1 \div 0.136 = 7.35) km/kWh, meaning the car can travel about 7.35 kilometers on one kWh of energy.

With a 55 kWh battery, I multiply the battery capacity by the efficiency:
55 (kWh) × 7.35 (km/kWh) = 404 km
So, on a full charge, the car can travel approximately 404 km.

Think of it as how far the car can travel on each kWh of energy! I hope this helps clarify how efficiency is measured for EVs.

Think of it as how much ml/km. 1000 ml is 1 liter.

1000 Wh is 1 kWh.

Some EV use km/kWh which is distance per energy while other use Wh/km which is energy per distance.

So 7.35 km/kWh is the same as 136Wh/km.

You can get the vehicle range with the below calculation when you have the battery capacity and average consumption.

Battery capacity = 55 kWh = 55,000 wh (K is 1000),
Avg consumption = 136 Wh/km

Range= Battery capacity / avg consumption = 55000/136 = 404 km.

Re: Tata Curvv EV Review

Completed 800 kms with the Tata Curvv.EV

Driving this car has been fun, similar experience as mentioned in this thread by many members.

I would like to highlight a few observations, after driving the car for 3 weeks.
1. Interiors - Its a step up from the older Tata's but for me coming from MG Astor, it feels like a downgrade. The hard dash, missing cup holders, overall feel of the plastics and buttons which are not as well put together as they were in the Astor.
2. Phygital controls - Physical + Digital controls on the center console are inconvenient, need to leave my fingers hanging till I find the correct touch button. I am so glad the AC fan speed, and temperature control buttons are physical.
3. Ventilated seats - I am enjoying this one. For my first car, bought the launch model of Astor, which did not have this. It has a huge impact on my overall mood, that gush of cold air keeps me calm when I am navigating through Bengaluru ORR traffic everyday. One nitpick though, the button to enable this is easy to reach, but difficult to see at what level is the cooling set. If the ventilated seats prompt could show up on the infotainment, it would be great.
4. ADAS -
a) AEB - Automatic Emergency Braking is a little bit harsh when moving in bumper to bumper traffic. Errs sometimes when the car is rolling down from the flyover in the last section where the angle induces some error in calculation. Also, its enabled by default on every restart, and I tend to forget to disable this. So I have now started leaving more space in the front as a precaution to avoid that hard stop.
b) LDW + LKA - With this enabled, I realised that after overtaking slow moving trucks I used to skip toggling the indicator and just come back to the lane. But with this feature, steering offers resistance, and continuously displays lane departure warning, if indicator is not used. I do not miss indicators now for lane change. Its irritating though, when we just have to go 1 feet beyond the lane, to avoid some vehicle which is driving on the lane marking.
c) ACC - Adaptive cruise control is amazing. In most of my drives in the previous car, the Cruise Control had to be halted due to a slow moving vehicle at an intersection or rumbler strips. ACC solves that issue.
5. Efficiency - Range is averaging at 350kms in peak ORR traffic, I am really happy with it. I was burning 5-6 litres on the Astor every day, on Curvv just 12-13% battery is consumed in 1 day of commute.
Last Friday, washed the car myself, and early morning on the Saturday, took it out to nearby highways in order to get some nice shots. Here are the resultant pics :

The car performed splendidly on the twisties, ghats, highways and village roads. Quite a few broken patches on the under construction Mumbai-Goa highway, the car took it in stride. The acceleration, composure and performance; enough said!

Spent quite some time in the backseat, comfy and nothing you'll complaint about while you take those naps on long drives. Not super-spacious, but has all that you need. (Ref: I'm 5 ft 10 inch)

First real test charging on public infra for me, frankly outside of major cities or tourist attractions; it is underwhelming.

We landed up on one non-existent charger in Chiplun following the tata charging map, then the other was a slow 15 kwh (in 2024!) where the electricity kept going out, needing us to stand for 40 min and keep restarting the session for a measly 10% top-up. Tata Power had a non-functional fast charger at Ganpatipule (live on app) which left us waiting for the other charger to get free. (To Tata's credit, charging was free).

On way back, a static charger was non-functional follower by another just a km down which worked like as every charger should! 30 min break for a 30% top-up (30 kwh charger)

Within 150 km of major cities / attractions there is enough charging infra; but in more remote areas; can't assume they'll be working seamlessly.

Also, I've 4 apps downloaded and small change left in 2 of their wallets! Plus highway charging is expensive (Rs ~25 a unit)

The government needs to take initiative along with the bigger players to solve this last piece for EVs to go mainstream. Most folks are ok with a 30 min break but the experince needs to work seamlessly like a fuel pump and ALWAYS. Need faster chargers too!

2 of my friends who drove long distance on ab Ev First time! If the last charging bit is sorted, pretty sure they'll be a convert.
You can use plugshare to plan your trip. It shows accurate information about charging infrastructure like working conditions, rating of charger, available amenities etc. I always plan my trips on the plugshare app. Also, ehub by mg and evarc are other alternatives to plugshare.

Nowadays chargezone has the best chargers in the mumbai-pune-konkan-goa area and they also have autocharge feature where you just plugin the charging gun and the charging starts. By the way the nh66 route has sufficient charging stations. It's just that we need to have a bit more trip planning in case of EVs.

The apps like plugshare are handy for planning long trips on ev. The app provided by tata doesn’t show accurate information.

A Scenic Trekking Trip from Pune to Devkund in Our Curvv EV

We took a short trip from Pune to Devkund on the 31st.
Although it wasn't the ideal time to visit the waterfall, we wanted to do some trekking and preferred a less crowded place, making it the perfect destination.

We started with a 100% charge, and Devkund is 101 km from our location. The journey from Pune involved a downhill elevation from 600m to 100m, so we reached there with an AEC of 108 Wh/km, taking around 2.5 hours.

Tata Curvv EV Review-midwaytransformed.jpeg

On the return trip, it took about 3 hours for uphill elevation, and the AEC increased to 151 Wh/km.
We arrived home with 47% charge remaining (approximately 200 km range) without any charging during the trip.

Here are some moments we captured during the trip:

Total journey stats:
- Distance: 212.7 km
- AEC: 132 Wh/km

Re: Tata Curvv EV Review

I visited a nearby Tata showroom which has both ICE and EV to get some doubts clarified about EVs. Sharing exceprts-

Major Doubt-
I would be shifting to a 15th floor apartment in Sep 2025. Would the AC wall mounted charger setup pose any challenge?

Response received from Salesperson- The charger setup is done by Tata Power and there is absolutely no issues. All process is completed under 1 month, and there is little to no involvement needed from my end. The salesperson claimed that they have already installed many such chargers for individual Tata ev owners across Pune in highrise apartments. I have requested her to share contact detail of any such customer, as I want to verify this claim. I also mentioned that I would be OK with even a 15Amp socket installation to which the salesperson confidently said that you need not worry so slow charging, the AC charger would be easily installed without any hiccups.

Was this a Sales tactic, or is the situation not that bad in Pune?

My view on Curvv.ev (2nd top variant) (PS this is only from a display vehicle since test drive vehicle was not available)-

Pros-
  • Solid build quality. The doors, boot and Trunk do carry that THUNK.
  • I liked those illuminated door handles. Definitely will help locating them in the dark (especially since they fit flush with the car).
  • Ample ground clearance, no worry of battery kissing the road imperfections ( from Creta EV teases, it appears Battery is dangerously low considering the Creta ICE GC is only 190 mm).
  • Leg room is ample and par for course.
  • Cavernous boot space is more than I need.
Cons-
  • The floor is raised, giving poor underthigh support. This is even more amplified at the rear, and was very uncomfortable for my 5'9 foot frame. Sat in the ICE version, which too faces the same issue, but was much more comfortable than the EV version.
  • Headroom is tight for me if I sit in the rear centre position, as my hair brushed the roof liner. At the sides it was adequate, still felt a little hemmed in. At front too it felt strictly adequate (this could be as I like driving with seat set at highest position).
  • None of the power window switches (except one button on driver side) is backlit. This is very disappointing in 2025. Even Creta ICE has this trend.
  • There is a serious ergonomic flaw for driver where the left knee kept hitting the centre console area and the footwell too felt little cramped.
  • The seat fabric felt very average and too much piano black plastic used on centre console. I am not sure if even the top variant has the same.

Salesperson response on comparison with BE6E-

She tried justifying that BE6E's unlimited warranty is actually a demerit considering BE6E carries NMC batteries (as per her) which require more maintenance and will prove costlier to maintain than the LFP one's on Tata. I tried correcting her but she was very adamant that BE6E does not have LFP battery. Apart from this she too agreed its a brilliant package as well and there are no imminent flaws as of now, but asked me to rethink because of the NMC batteries used in BE6E. Tata needs to train their salesperson better on this. Pretty sure such lies won't get them anywhere and may even hamper interest since the customer would think if salesperson lie, what will happen in after sales!

Discount offered- She mentioned as per year end discount there was a discount of 75K-80K for Curvv.ev. Exact discount would only be conveyed as and when my delivery date is finalized ( I had mentioned I will need the car 2 months from now).
