Re: Tata Curvv EV Review

We brought home our new one last week! Wait was over.

It wasn't a long wait, a month to be precise. Worth it.

Adishakti Banaswadi, handled the entire process from TD to booking, from follow ups to PDA, from accessories to final delivery, it was all very well structured and organised. To be honest, from the stories around, and coming from MG, we had our expectation tuned. But have been pleasantly surprised indeed. Every request was fulfilled to our satisfaction.

The Curvv.EV is surely a head turner, within a few hours around the city roads, had quite a few curious enquiries and complements.
Rear quarter profile looks best IMO.

Drove about 500kms in mixed drove conditions - city traffic, potholed roads (Bangalore things!), rainy nights, highways, uphill, downhill, overall about 400kms so far - and its a breeze.
Being the first EV experience with a 165BHP on just a tap of foot, both interesting and exciting.
The car feels planted on highways speeds (120+).
All features working well as it should. After a few days, one gets used to and adapted to ADAS.

Outgoing Hector was 5 year old and aged faster. than it should have. We had some incredible memories with it, so super sad to see it go. Personally we knew very well Curvv EV won't a an upgrade. But apart from the overall space within the car (Hector vs CurvvEV), the new one has a lot more going for it.

The color Virtual Sunrise is interesting. Many have felt it reflects different hues at different times, depending on ambience, esp the sky.

Did not install the 7kw charger.
basic 3.3 Kw on solar have been good enough so far.

Haven't gone into the math of all the relevant EV metrics yet, just enjoying at the moment!

More to come!

Looks really beautiful in the above pictures. Was casually scrolling through, but the car made me stop and admire the colour for a few good seconds.

Congratulations on the car and wishing you thousands of miles of happy ownership.

Congrats on the new car. Even I am coming from MG (Astor) to this, hopefully we are lucky enough to have an uneventful tata ownership experience.

Thanks for the list. Will visit Autotriz for ppf estimate for just the piano black parts this week.

No doubt about the looks from this angle. It looks smashing and more futuristic in this color.

Congratulations on your purchase. Do post your views in detail about the car and mainly on the range.

Hi

Congrats on your purchase. The car is definitely a looker. Noticed one on my way to work today. Looks good in person than in photos. Rear windshield appears small. How is the view through IRVM?

Re: Tata Curvv EV Review

The car allotted to me has reached Bangalore and I will be going for PDI on Friday.

After reading the other thread on teambhp about the battery drain issue, I was thinking about booking an external PDI service, but Adishakti motors is citing some company policy that no 3rd party PDIs are allowed. Is that true ?

Thank you!

IRVM is small, due to the coupe slope. It definitely much smaller than what I was used to in MG Hector.
But so far that has not caused any challenges while driving across various conditions.
It could have been an issue while reversing, but the camera's bring up excellent views that helps.

I had read about the battery drain issue as well.
Not sure of Adishakti's policy on external PDI. I did it myself with help of the Punch PDI Checklist from teambhp (+ previous experiences). The sales guy was super patient as I went through my extensive routine. They did clean the car for the PDI.
I was satisfied with the observations and the overall outcome.

My suggestion would be to do the PDI in broad daylight and not rush through it. All the best!

Re: Tata Curvv EV Review

Another great ride this weekend in the curvv.Ev with friends!
780 km to and fro Ganpatipule from Mumbai.

The car performed splendidly on the twisties, ghats, highways and village roads. Quite a few broken patches on the under construction Mumbai-Goa highway, the car took it in stride. The acceleration, composure and performance; enough said!

Spent quite some time in the backseat, comfy and nothing you'll complaint about while you take those naps on long drives. Not super-spacious, but has all that you need. (Ref: I'm 5 ft 10 inch)

First real test charging on public infra for me, frankly outside of major cities or tourist attractions; it is underwhelming.

We landed up on one non-existent charger in Chiplun following the tata charging map, then the other was a slow 15 kwh (in 2024!) where the electricity kept going out, needing us to stand for 40 min and keep restarting the session for a measly 10% top-up. Tata Power had a non-functional fast charger at Ganpatipule (live on app) which left us waiting for the other charger to get free. (To Tata's credit, charging was free).

On way back, a static charger was non-functional follower by another just a km down which worked like as every charger should! 30 min break for a 30% top-up (30 kwh charger)

Within 150 km of major cities / attractions there is enough charging infra; but in more remote areas; can't assume they'll be working seamlessly.

Also, I've 4 apps downloaded and small change left in 2 of their wallets! Plus highway charging is expensive (Rs ~25 a unit)

The government needs to take initiative along with the bigger players to solve this last piece for EVs to go mainstream. Most folks are ok with a 30 min break but the experince needs to work seamlessly like a fuel pump and ALWAYS. Need faster chargers too!

2 of my friends who drove long distance on ab Ev First time! If the last charging bit is sorted, pretty sure they'll be a convert.

Congrats on your new EV purchase.

Advice for most new EV owners: Always use Plugshare.

I know Tata and MG have come up with their own aggregator apps for charging and you can use them to initiate charging etc especially to take advantage of free charging but for discovery these platforms have no idea about how reliable these chargers are.

Also over time you will know that certain CPOs are more reliable or less reliable.

Govt funded chargers are pretty much the worst. Avoid BPCL/HPCL/IOCL chargers as much as possible. Apart from not being able to charge, there have been cases of vehicle damage as well.

The best charging experience is one where you don't have to fiddle with an app or RFID. Simple plug in your car and it starts charging. Autocharge is supported by Chargezone, Jio BP and Zeon. Spend a few minutes setting it up, well worth the time and effort. Getting the RFIDs of the CPOs popular in your area and keeping them in your car is also something I will recommend.

Re: Tata Curvv EV Review

Updates from my end.

There was some confusion with our color preference and sales advisor was under the impression that we are okay with Virtual Sunrise option.
But we wanted the pure grey one; and decided to wait.

Now, yesterday we were told that the car allotted to us is in transit, will be here in Bangalore by next week.
Also, the showroom has informed Tata Power folks for charger installation. Got a call from them and I asked for 3.3 kw board installation. They informed me that the 7.2 kw charger can be configured for 3.3 kw mode without any issues. Has anyone else here done this ?

They are correct. The Exicom 7.4 KW charger can be detuned to 3.3 KW with the Spin EV, Exicom provided app.

Re: Tata Curvv EV Review

Updates from the 400 km Mumbai <->Bhimashankar temple run this weekend! Shall keep focussed on only new observations.

The last 50 Km to Bhimashankar is hilly terrain with plenty of narrow village roads. Post monsoon, fresh asphalt has been laid on say ~60% of the roads.

The car was composed on the twisties with minimal body roll.
With 3 senior citizens (2 on the backseat); no one felt nauseated or in discomfort.

The suspension does the job fantastically and absorbed the undulations well. Caveat: as long as you foresee the bad patches and slow down sufficiently.
There were several unmarked sections where the fresh tar ended abruptly and we ran into the potholes / gravel. I missed a few of them and had some sudden braking maneuvers. Obsevations: tyres squeal on hard breaking (likely due to low resistance Ev specific tyres); and if you land on a major potholes unplanned; the suspension travel will get exhausted resulting in noticable metal clanking (this is a design flaw which needs to be corrected).

The rest of Mumbai -Pune (Talegaon) ride was a breeze as usual. Charging infra here is sorted (although the 60kwh gun was not working where we stopped, 30 kwh and a 30% top-up during breakfast was good enough for us on way back but on longer rides working 60 / 100 kwh would be much appreciated)
Cruise control on these roads is nice but still needs frequent manual intervention due to the varying vehicle speeds. I'm sure the adaptive cruise control on the top variant would make it even more fun.

Tiredness level at end of trip: 0
Range (extrapolated) with plenty of ghats thrown in: ~370
All-in-all; a fun trip and good experinces!
And with the costs of running an Ev, a good breakfast at Lonavala is excuse enough to step out

Re: Tata Curvv EV Review

The wait is excruciating now. Fingers crossed, by next week I will have the car delivered.

I am already planning a trip in December. Wanted to confirm with the owners here about consecutive fast charging sessions limit. Have you ever seen a warning after charging 4-5 times with a DC fast charger, without an AC charging session in between ?

Are there really warranty risks associated with this ?

Thanks for the regular updates here. Let's hope the highway charging infra improves at a rapid pace with all the new EV launches planned next year.
