MG ZS EV's successor SUV leaked ahead of 2025 unveil; Offer up to 482 km of range

MG is working on the next-generation iteration of its petrol-powered MG ZS (Astor in India). While earlier reports mentioned that it won't get an electric version, a successor to the ZS EV is now said to be in the works.

The new model will come in the form of an all-new electric compact SUV and will be based on the MG4 hatchback offered globally. The all-new MG ZS EV successor is expected to make its global unveil sometime in 2025. Ahead of its arrival though, images of the upcoming model were published by China's Ministry of Industry & Information Technology. The published report also reveals other details of the upcoming SUV as well.

The upcoming MG ZS EV successor features a more modern design language inspired by the brand's Cyberster and MG4. It features slimmer headlights, black cladding all around the front and sides of the SUV, black plastic on the wheel arches and silver roof rails. The rear also gets sleek tail lights connected by an LED light bar and a high-mounted stoplight. MG will also offer the new SUV with three different styles of ORVMs and alloy wheel designs.

As per the published report, the upcoming SUV is 162 mm longer and has a 149 mm larger wheelbase than the current ZS EV. Also, MG will not be calling the new model 'ZS EV'. Instead, it will receive a new moniker, which will be announced at a later stage.

The new MG ZS EV successor will be based on the brand's Modular Scalable Platform. The long-range version is expected to offer around 300 miles (482 km) of range. There is also the potential for an all-wheel-drive variant, which MG is yet to confirm.

This will come to India only in 2026. Since the LHD version will be launched in China next year. For reference the cloud EV was unveiled in May 2023 in China and we are getting it after more then one year after the launch in China.

Also there is no facelift of MG ZS EV anywhere in the world. We will only get the next generation ZS EV.

This car has a better road presence than the current crossover-ish ZS. The petrol variant can sell much better than Astor, if it's launched in 2025-2026.

Looks dapper, even in white, from the front and the side. Rear not so much.
Would it be a reasonable upgrade from current (2020) zs ev, in 2026? I have clocked only 40k km and range at 100% (ac off, eco) is still 323km.
I think MG should launch a more powerful ev in the 35-45 L price bracket.

About time I say! As great as the ZS EV's electric powertrain is, and as much of an all-rounder as the car is, the design seriously feels old & outdated today. Parked next to a Nexon EV Facelift, it looks 10 years old.

The successor looks contemporary, while clean at the same time. Good there isn't any Chinese-design quirkiness.

Is there a VW connection given MG-SAIC-VW links ? The silhouette strongly reminds of latest Tiguan / Tayron.

As compared to the current model, the new ZS/Astor needs to improve on -
  • Handling
  • Rear under thigh support
  • Petrol efficiency
  • Bootspace

Re: MG ZS EV's successor SUV leaked ahead of 2025 unveil; Offer up to 482 km of range

MG ZS EV successor, first look at MG4’s SUV sister car.

- The new compact electric SUV is due to arrive early next year, but it will not wear the ZS EV name

- MG ZS EV is an all-new, all-electric compact SUV based on MG4 hatchback.

- It’s not due to be unveiled until early next year

- MG’s new electric SUV measures 4,476mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,730mm – 162mm and 149mm longer, respectively, compared to the out-going ZS EV. At 1,849mm wide and 1,621mm tall, the new model is also wider and lower than the ZS EV.

- The new electric SUV sits on the same Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) as the MG4 and should therefore be available with the same selection of battery/motor combinations as its sibling too. That means the longest-range version should do over 480km on a single charge, and there’s potential for all-wheel drive variants too.

- The same MSP platform used for ZS EV successor will serve as the underpinnings for a larger ‘C-segment’ or mid-size electric SUV, and that both cars are currently undergoing testing

- The brand’s second, currently nameless electric SUV will go on sale in the UK in 2025 as well, and in effect, is a replacement for the MG Marvel R that was sold in Europe.

Quote:
There’s a very clear family resemblance with the MG4, as well as the MG Cyberster electric drop-top, although the front end isn’t quite as sharp on the as-yet-unnamed SUV, and its headlights are much slimmer. It also gets black plastic wheelarch and side cladding, and a set of roof rails to give more of an SUV look.
Quote:
just like on the MG4 and Cyberster, there’s a large chrome MG octagon badge on the nose, and the front bumper features a large air intake to help cool the motors and batteries underneath. Meanwhile the rear has a full-width light bar with Y-shaped taillights, the same as the MG4.

Next Generation ZS EV will likely be based on different platform than the MG ZS IC and Hybrid platform launched today in UK.

But the MG ZS EV version will in fact be a rebadged Wuling Starlight S.

Hey, the car in the video is over 4700 mm, so it couldn’t be the same one surely? I’m excited to see if the new ZS will be RWD like the MG4 it is claimed to be based on. The MG4 allows a good amount of slip at the rear axle too, I’ve seen it drift in a couple of videos. And since the MG4 itself is unlikely to come to India, this could be the only affordable RWD EV in India.

The presenter in the video said it's coming to India, this looks exactly like the 1st images posted in this thread.

The cloud EV itself has massive space on the inside, more so than the MG4. If MG wants to price the next generation ZS EV higher than the Windsor EV, then it must be bigger in size. The wheelbase of MG4 and Windsor EV is 2700mm, this Wuling Starlight is 2800mm.

Let's not forget BYD is also set to unveil there next generation Atto 3, which is said to be bigger in size. Remember Atto 3 was launched 3 years later than the ZS EV in China and as a bigger rival to ZS EV.

Since the competition in China is launching bigger vehicles to compete against the Atto 3 like the Geely Galaxy E5 and Leapmotor C10 which will be rebadged Stellantis product for India. So it makes perfect sense for SAIC to launch this vehicle.

I also feel that going forward we will see MG India launching products mainly from Wuling and Baojun than from say EU focused MG lineup. So far apart from Astor/ZS EV, none of the MG India products are native SAIC MG products.

If you also look at 1st Gen MG HS, it looks exactly like a a bigger version of face lift MG ZS. So may be the next gen ZS EV may a bit smaller but similar external styling as the Wuling Starlight S.

Re: MG ZS EV's successor SUV leaked ahead of 2025 unveil; Offer up to 482 km of range

SAIC has unveiled the MG ZS EV successor in China as the MG ES5. It has two battery options, 49.1 kWh and 62.2 kWh, sourced from CATL. Dimensions are now very close to BYD Atto 3, with ES5 slightly longer and higher wheelbase. I think this will help MG to compete well with the upcoming onslaught of EVs from Maruti, Hyundai, Mahindra and also BYD. Hopefully, they don't become too greedy and price it upwards. They should just use it as a straightforward replacement for ZS EV with the same pricing. Also, bring that 62 kWh option.

Dimensions:
L/W/H = 4476mm/1849mm/1621mm
Wheelbase = 2730mm
Curb weight = 1685 kg and 1740 kg

Specs:
RWD motor with a maximum power of 125 kW (168 hp),
Peak torque of 250 Nm,
0-100 km/h = 8 seconds,
Top speed = 170 km/h,
Battery (CATL LFP) = 49.1 kWh or 62.2 kWh
Range = 425 km and 525 km

Re: MG ZS EV's successor SUV leaked ahead of 2025 unveil; Offer up to 482 km of range

It remains to be seen what MG India will launch they have a lot of bigger products from Baojin and Wuling that they can rebadge to taken on various segments.

If they want to take on the Creta EV, Suzuki EVX and Atto 3 they can launch the ES5. A native MG SAIC product will most certainly get a Euro 5 star NCAP.

They can also launch the new Baojin Yunhai that measures L 4541mm, W 1880mm, H 1608mm and Wheelbase 2750mm but will get a bigger LFP battery 56.7 kWh or 69.2 kWh. This has a bigger battery compared to Atto 3 and MG own ES5. It will also have a battery size advantage over the Windsor EV 50 kWh and the Curvv EV 55 kWh and can compete against the Stellantis C10 69 kWh.
