Scoop! Dacia Spring EV (new-gen Kwid EV) spotted in India

The Dacia Spring EV, which made its global debut in February this year, has been spotted in India. It is essentially the next-generation Renault Kwid EV.

The Spring EV was spotted at a parking lot somewhere in Chennai. Although heavily camouflaged, the new Dacia logo is clearly visible on the test mule. The headlamps are positioned on the bumper with LED DRLs on top. The overall shape of the Spring EV looks similar to the current Kwid. It has wraparound taillights with a black plastic insert in the centre. Other details include plastic cladding around the wheel arches, which extends to the rear bumper.

Inside, the Dacia Spring EV gets a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel and a 10-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit.

In the global market, the Dacia Spring EV comes with two electric motor options: 44 BHP and 64 BHP, both powered by a 26.8 kWh battery pack, offering a range of 220 km. The EV is capable of fast charging via a 30 kW DC charger.

Good to see Renault making all these efforts for the Indian market. Kwid EV as a product can be a success given it is priced properly. Make the base variant available at around 7 lakhs.

Looks a lot similar to this image I saw online: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cns6ro2PmSv/

Hope it looks like this as it actually looks like a good render, but is dated a year ago.

Curious white housing for the gear selector, looks like it's very crudely bolted on, almost like the white electrical socket housings you see from the likes of Crabtree!

Shame this won't make our market. The Kwids budget positioning means there's no chance anyone in marketing will sanction a launch given it'll be at least 10L ex showroom most likely if we're being realistic about pricing. I guess the long shot is if Renault saw it fit to both compete with the Tiago EV and undercut it at the bottom of the EV market.

I've said it before: I'd happily take a punt on a beater electric car for the garage.

As mentioned by the OP, the car has been in the market in Europe for a good few months now, so you don't have to rely on old speculative renders anymore

This will be a perfect car to those saying EVs are meant for cities only. 4 door, budget friendly, easy to navigate traffic and super efficient for city runabouts. It will be an awesome alternative to Tiago EV and Comet EV, if priced at par.

Renault's EV tech is respectable looking at their European line up, especially Megane E-Tech and the likes.

200kms is perfect for city chores. Direct competition to Tiago.
Do we know anything about the battery chemistry?

This one is a review from Fully Charged Show. IMO, we need more such small cars in the Indian market.

According to this video, the price in equivalent INR is 15.3 Lakhs ex-showroom. A KWID EV / SPRING at this price point will definitely be a non-starter.

I will not vouch for such a small car in the Indian car market at this very high price point as Tata TIAGO EV XZ plus LUX Long Range is available for an On-Road price of 12.62 Lakhs while the XE medium range costs 8.43 Lakhs On-road. (All On-Road price is of Bangalore)

From the pictures, it looks like the background is Renault Nissan Technology & Business Center in Chennai's Mahindra World City.
If that's the case, this car may be here for multiple reasons, other than India launch.

Both Renault and Nissan have already announced a small EV car for the Indian market. So yes, the launch of Kwid EV launch is very much possible. Not immediately though, as they are planning for Magnite facelift right now, and maybe Duster later.

iirc the previous gen dacia spring was also an ev, the new gen looks pretty nice, let's hope it actually makes it into the market here instead of just being tested in the indian environment

Re: Scoop! Dacia Spring EV (new-gen Kwid EV) spotted in India

Dacia Spring and its badge-engineered siblings (manufactured by Dongfeng in China) is already sold in China, Latin America & EU since 2019. It is the second highest exported EV from China after Tesla Model 3. Renault has sold at least 140,000 Dacia Spring EVs till date.

The 2024 model is not all new but second refresh (a major one) of the original model. This is the first time they are introducing a right hand drive Dacia Spring for the UK market, and it only makes sense that other commonwealth markets (including India & South Africa) will follow.

With all this information at hand, I don't think Renault is R&D'ing (rather just road testing) this mini car for other global markets. I am confident that they will release this in India (hopefully soon).

Re: Scoop! Dacia Spring EV (new-gen Kwid EV) spotted in India

A small EV is perfect for Indian cities and 200km range is enough for city duties.
It might be a small volume car in the Indian market, but could be a case of manufacturing hub for all RHD markets across the globe.
Sure hope it gets released in India and people looking to buy a small EV have more options apart from the troubled (HV Critical Alert) Tata twins (Tiago and Tigor EV).
