Re: MG lines up two new models for India; including an EV

Saw this MG Cloud test mule on the Delhi - Mumbai Expressway near Ferozepur Jhirka (Haryana) earlier today. The shape of the vehicle, position of headlights and taillights look a little quirky !

Whether the Cloud EV will be cheaper? we need to see. The Maruti moment mentioned by Sajjan Jindal in merger of JSW with MG, indicates to cheaper pricing of the MG products especially EV's.

Re: MG's expected product range after the JSW-MG JV

Just look at the legroom. The Cloud looks promising to me. It's a compact MPV, perfect for the city. If priced competitively, it will draw customers from all segments. Might steal away Innova customers too.

More images: MG Cloud EV spied testing again

MG Motor India is gearing up to launch its third pure-electric model, the Cloud EV, later this year. It has been testing on Indian roads since April. The latest spy images reveal more details of the upcoming EV.

The MG Cloud EV is a four-door crossover measuring 4,295 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,652 mm in height. Although the test mule remains covered in camouflage, one can clearly see the LED light bar with separate headlamp pods placed lower down on the bumper. The charging port is located on the passenger-side front fender.

At the rear, the MG Cloud EV has wraparound LED taillights with L-shaped graphics and a roof spoiler with an integrated stop lamp. The EV rides on aero-optimized dual-tone wheels.

The MG Cloud EV is expected to be offered with a 50.6 kWh battery pack, with a range of up to 460 km. The full technical details of the India-spec Cloud EV haven’t been revealed yet.

Re: MG lines up two new models for India; including an EV

Except for unorthodox front styling, I don’t see anything that makes me hate this car. Yes, it’s not an SUV but everything need not be! Seems to be a very practical car with loads of space as well as decent ground clearance. If they can price it at 14-18L, they should be able to sell in decent numbers. That should also attract some cab operators who are buying eC3 or tigor for lack of choice! Many BYD E6 cab owners may actually consider this too.

Re: MG lines up two new models for India; including an EV

Cloud EV has two charge ports, one for AC and another for DC. This might sound great but there is an issue that will prevent it from selling well. It has a GB/T DC port which is less common then the CCS2 port.

Tata Xpress-t, Mahindra E-Verito and Tata commercial vehicles like Ace EV have GB/T port, so expect a long wait at the charging station, since the chargers with this port are few and also they are mostly older chargers with slow charging speed.

Not sure whether even the AC port is GB/T for India. But DC port is confirmed to be a GB/T in RHD Indonesian market.

I’m pretty sure the India bound one will be ccs2. If they use the extra port as a GB/T. God bless them, it will be a boon in DCFC stations when the CCS2 is occupied you can fast charge using GB/T which is pretty much always unused.

They can't fit the CCS2 port without a body panel change. Wuling Indonesia was asked about the lack of CCS2 socket in Indonesian market, they said the company will install more of GB/T chargers. So it appears that it will not come with a CCS2 port. The front left quarter panel has a AC GB/T socket and the rear right quarter panel as a DC GB/T socket. So they will have to modify the rear quarter panel.

The spy shots in India doesn't appear to have a modifed quarter panel. The CCS2 port lid/cover will have to be a lot taller then the GB/T lid.

The only thing they can change easily is the GB/T AC socket, with a direct swap to Type 2 AC socket, since only the pins are inversed i.e male and female. But the front quarter panel doesn't have enough space to accommodate a CCS2 port.

Oh man. That’s a bummer. We need a charging spyshot to make sure. If this doesn’t have CCS2. It won’t be accepted in the market for sure.

If this turns out to be true, then they are only targeting cab operators like Blu-Smart who are already used to GBT port. Probably MG doesn’t see potential with private owners. But I still think they should just give CCS2 and also sell this to private owners.

Maybe they are planning to slot in between the Tigor and ev6 in the taxi segment, it's a pretty huge price gap between those two afterall.

The cloud at around 20l should give considerable savings over the ev6 while still being good enough to be presented as a premium vehicle, unlike the Tigor.

That will be a bummer. They should give CCS2 port as its widely available.

I don't think this is true for India. The spy image above clearly shows charging socket cover hanging outside and they are linked with a two threads like it is in all CCS2 cars. A GB/T charger doesn't have two covers

It does not appear to have have it in the below test vehicle.
Image posted on May 7. Hopefully they change it.

Also is it just me or does the picture posted by you have a different charge lid. To me it appears to be taller.
