According to reports, BYD has been working on an updated version of its electric sedan, the Seal.

The updated BYD Seal was spotted undergoing testing in its home market of China. Reports suggest the electric sedan is scheduled to have its global unveil sometime in August this year. The updated sedan is also expected to be renamed Seal 07 in China.



The spy images suggest the upcoming model could feature a bunch of new sensors for its LIDAR system. Apart from the new sensors, the exterior updates are minimal, although a set of newly-designed alloy wheels can be seen, as well as, new 'Seal 07' badges and a few minor tweaks to the headlamp and tail lights.



Inside though the changes are more significant, with the updated Seal now coming with updates to the dashboard, centre console and air vents. The electric sedan also features a sportier steering wheel, updated digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, integrated centre console armrest, physical buttons that have been retained from the current model and a panoramic sunroof with an electric sunshade.



Reports suggest that the updated BYD Seal will be based on the brand's new e-platform 3.0 EVO - offering an 800-volt system which improves charging efficiency and motor speed. The upcoming Seal will be offered in both, rear and all-wheel-drive versions, with a top speed of around 220-240 km/h. The updated Seal will also get larger battery options - 62.4 kWh and 80.4 kWh 'Blade' batteries, offering 510 km and 650 km of driving range, respectively.

Hopefully, BYD will bring this one to India as well. It's quite a promising car but our country's policies towards the Chinese have hindered their progress here.

Updated BYD Seal unveiled.

For reference, the current Seal is priced at 179,800-249,800 yuan, and the DM-i is priced at 149,800-219,800 yuan.

the car will continue to use the design of the current model in terms of appearance, the biggest improvement is that it will be equipped with LiDAR, so it will also be equipped with DiPilot 300 advanced driver assistance system, reaching the level of L2+ driving assistance. In addition, the new car will also add a Sky Purple exterior color and a new style of wheels to further highlight the youthful appearance.

The interior of the new car has been greatly upgraded, with the overall shape similar to the Qin L, and the new sardine orange color scheme. Inside, the center console is painted in high-gloss black to create a contrasting color, and the passenger side is also integrated with a luminous geometric pattern to enhance the sense of ceremony. In addition, the new car will also be equipped with a new style of multi-function steering wheel, wireless charging for mobile phones in the front seats, crystal shift knobs, sporty seats, etc., and the latest DiLink system will be built into the large floating screen.

In terms of power, the new car will be equipped with SiC silicon carbide, 800V high-voltage platform and 12-in-1 electric powertrain as standard, and will also be equipped with Yunnan-C intelligent damping body control system, which will improve handling.

2025 BYD SEAL takes on Tesla's Model 3 in China.

the most notable is the bulge on its roof. That's a LiDAR sensor – fitted on a BYD sedan for the first time – and its meant to improve the car's Level 2+ DiPilot 300 ADAS system. Key improvements made to the car's ADAS include high-speed urban Navigation on Autopilot, and Automated Valet Parking (AVP) features.

It's the second model to use the upgraded e-Platform 3.0 Evo (the first was the Sealion 07), boasting upgrades like a 12-in-1 electric drive system (the non-Evo model is 8-in-1) and a 23,000 rpm electric motor.

This means it can reach a claimed top speed of 240 km/h, and achieve a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 3.8 seconds. But nobody is doing those speeds all the time, so the more pertinent update is that charging time is also much faster now.

In terms of power, the new Seal will be equipped with SiC silicon carbide electronic control as standard, with a maximum power of 170kW rear-wheel drive, 230kW rear-wheel drive and 390kW four-wheel drive, battery capacity of 61.44kWh and 80.64kWh respectively, and a cruising range of 510km, 650km and 600km respectively (CLTC mode). The new Seal also supports 800V technology, with a 10%-80% fast charge in just 25 minutes, while its top-of-the-line model will also be equipped with the Yunnan-C intelligent damping body control system to improve handling.

Prices for the 2025 BYD Seal facelift in China starts from CNY 175,800 (~RM 109k) for the 510 Standard Edition, and goes up all the way to CNY 239,800 (~RM 150k) for the top-spec 600 AWD Intelligent Driving Edition.

This undercuts the Tesla Model 3 by quite a margin, with the American EV's prices ranging from CNY 239,800 (~RM 145k) for the base Model 3 to CNY 335,900 (~RM 210k) for the Model 3 Performance.

This is the production version of the Ocean M concept presented earlier this year.

This "compact" sedan is 4.63m long, with a wheelbase of 2.82m.
It is based on the same platform as the Seal sedan and has the same engines (218hp on the rear wheels or 422hp with four-wheel drive).

It will be launched in China on 30/08 with prices between €18,800 and €25,000 approximately.









While BYD hasn’t officially revealed the powertrain specs, details from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology suggest outputs of 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS) for the single motor and 416 hp (310 kW / 422 PS) for the dual motor.

Such a beautiful design, wish this comes to India for a lower price than the Seal with a higher ground clearance.

The Chinese are miles ahead of us in terms of design and technology for EV cars. For similar price we have the Curvv, and in EVs we don’t even have the excuse of tax structures.

While Ola has given up building an EV car, there is definitely a space for home grown EV company which can provide value in terms of design and tech for the Indian market.
