Hyundai India is said to have received the go-ahead from its parent company based in South Korea to manufacture and sell the Inster EV in the Indian market. It will be built at the brand's Sriperumbudur plant.

The Inster EV (codenamed: HE1i), is based on the E-GMP (K) platform. Reports suggest that it will be offered with localized batteries from Exide.

In the global market, the Hyundai Inster EV is offered in two battery pack options: 42 kWh and 49 kWh. Both battery packs are paired with a single electric motor producing 95 BHP / 147 Nm and 113 BHP / 147 Nm, respectively. Hyundai claims a maximum range of 355 km on a single charge.

The Inster EV will compete with the likes of the Punch.ev and Citroen eC3 in the Indian market.

Hyundai - please fast track the launch. Been waiting to get a small EV as a second car for city errands and really do not want to test my luck with the hit or miss Tata offerings.

2026?! Punch might get a second generation by that time I love the design of both the cars. I guess I'll start saving for a new car now.

Punch atleast would have had a facelift and or tech upgrade by then.
Also would the ec3 be still around?

Looks similar to Casper which was recently trademarked in India. Maybe we will get both soon under the same name?

Re: Hyundai Inster EV India launch in 2026; to rival Punch EV

As per my discussion with one of the Hyundai sales manager, Hyundai is heavily focused on Creta EV for now in India. There are already lot of presentations happening for that. EV costing is one major factor which has been a concern in Hyundai camp and they feel with Creta price band the EV pricing can be justified which is difficult in smaller cars.

Creta EV pricing would be very near to the top model Creta ICE. Success of that will open gates for other Hyundai EVs.

While Hyundai will come up with Creta EV, Kia will focus on Seltos Hybrid.

No news for Inster launch in India as of now but we never know when the companies change plans.

2026 is too late. A company planning India's largest IPO should have more aggression and act like a market leader.

They have the technology, the car and the money to bring this to market much earlier. I only see "intent" lacking.

I sincerely hope that the article is mistaken and Hyundai is not going to get lax in the Indian market

The specs look promising, it should be a worthy rival to the Punch EV, just like the Exter is a rival to the Punch.

By the USD prices he is quoting, how is this a Punch rival?

Is Hyundai out of names? They have an Exter, now an Inster Casper is a much better sounding name.

Maybe they would price it exactly how they priced the Exter in comparison to the Punch. They will bring an India Specific model like they do with all Hyundai cars and price it at par or slightly lower than the Punch.ev.

I don't get the logic too, Inster, Exter, they could have called them all Casper and Casper EV respectively

They cannot name it the same outside India model as it will be an India specific model. If they do the same name then the comparison goes to what is available in India vs outside India. What is the price in India vs outside India?

Example - Hyundai Verna was named Hyundai Accent or Solaris or i25 accent or Excel III outside India.

The Creta has different models in different countries, India has an India-specific model, and the GCC, Russia, Indonesia, and Brazil all have a different model moreover the Venue and i20 are longer and sturdier abroad, so it is not always the case.

There is absolutely no use in comparing what is sold in India and outside India, India gets the most inferior product (at least as regards safety) to keep costs down, moreover, engines, powertrains, dimensions, etc are all different to suit the Indian regulations, so it doesn't make much sense even if the product is named the same or not to compare Indian models with the rest of the world.
