Hyundai Inster EV unveiled; All-new entry-level e-SUV with 355 km range

Hyundai has taken the wraps off its all-new electric model, the Inster EV. The new Hyundai Inster EV is based on the Casper SUV, and once launched, it will be the brand's smallest and most affordable electric vehicle offered globally.

The new Inster EV measures 3,825 mm in length, 1,610 mm in width and 1,575 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,580 mm and a boot capacity of 280 litres, with all the seats in their upright position.

The Inster EV carries forward a design similar to its ICE counterpart. The EV gets circular LED DRLS surrounding the headlamp cluster and pixel-themed turn signals positioned higher up in a black bar spanning the width of the car. The front also houses the AAS sensors, charging port and the cameras between the headlamp units. The side is characterised by the chunky wheel arches housing up to 17-inch alloys. The EV also gets pillar-mounted rear door handles and functional roof rails. The rear continues the pixel theme on the light bars, which extend to the Hyundai logo in the centre. There is also a roof spoiler, circular tail lights, parking lights on the bumper and a high-mounted stop lamp.

Moving inside, the Inster EV features dual 10.25-inch screens - one being the digital instrument cluster and the other the touchscreen infotainment. Other features on offer include auto climate control, a multi-function steering wheel, ventilated seats, 360-degree camera, wireless charging and the full ADAS suite.

The Hyundai Inster EV is offered in two battery pack options: 42 kWh and 49 kWh. Both battery packs are paired with a single electric motor producing 95 BHP / 147 Nm and 113 BHP / 147 Nm, respectively. Hyundai claims a maximum range of 355 km on a single charge for the Inster EV. Also, the entry-level EV is said to be capable of fast charging using a 120 kW DC charger, allowing for 10-80% charge in 30 minutes.

This looks very promising, small EV's from Hyundai can be game changers in India.
These will be affordable and more reliable compared to Tata's which are infamous for electrical issues. A great service network will also be a bug PLUS.

If the Comet can sell, so can this Santro sized EV.
Price it properly and this will be a common sight on our roads.

I would happily buy an entry level EV as my second car from Honda/Maruti/Toyota/Hyundai/Kia. Hope Hyundai is serious about getting this in India.

Cross posting my comment from other thread-

A low cost EV from either of these manufacturers would be my first option to replace one of my turbo petrols (Sonet).

Looks really nice I must say.
I Wonder if Hyundai will launch this as Exter EV in India, considering the similar name.

Hyundai should be able to transplant this EV powertrain to the the Indian Exter. I have a feeling that we may get the Exter EV soon. That's also probably why the Casper has been renamed the Inster.

FYI, I have zero insider info, and this is purely speculation

I really liked the design of inster, its better than exter. Has good stance, SUV feel. have to see how it is from inside, hope Hyundai will launch the same design in India too. This may be a brother of Kia Calvis

what is the turning radius for this? This is a city car, and small turning radius will make it breeze in the cities.

Comet has 4.4m turning radius. First Gen i10 used to have 4.2m. Tata Nano had just 4.0m.

In-ster and not a Ex-ter

Looks better than the Exter though. Maybe Exter should have had this car's rear design. Although narrow, looks really cheerful and well done on the inside. Not sure if people like small cars that are little pricey owing to them being EVs.

Re: Hyundai Inster EV unveiled; All-new entry-level e-SUV with 355 km range

This just looks like an electric Ignis! Here are Inster vs Ignis dimensions.

3825 vs 3700 mm in length
1610 vs 1690 mm in width
1575 vs 1595 mm in height and
2580 vs 2435 mm in Wheelbase

Hyundai, please bring this to India and price it squarely in-between Tiago.ev and Punch.ev. You will definitely find lot of success! Maruti missed the boat with Wagon-R ev. Please don't repeat the same mistake.

Besides the Hyundai Creta EV, it's good to hear that Hyundai is launching one more electric vehicle. It boasts a very futuristic design. Now, we will have one more reliable alternative to TATA in electric vehicles.

By the way, do we have any idea when it will be launched in India? Will it be positioned below the Creta EV? Assuming the Creta EV will be launched next year, it would be interesting to see when Hyundai plans to introduce it in India.

Re: Hyundai Inster EV unveiled; All-new entry-level e-SUV with 355 km range

How is it a 49kwh battery is only giving 355km of claimed range. ZS with 50kw claims 461km ? Also this is a way smaller car and needs to be more efficient. If it averages Kona’s 9km/wh this should easily be able to do 450+ km

I am happy to see a proper stick to select gears in this car. I dont understand who is approving the horrible rotarty dials for EVs at Tata Motors and at MG.

Yesterday I tried slotting to D mode in my Nexon EV and it was just not slotting at all. I had to first take it to R and then to D.

Re: Hyundai Inster EV unveiled; All-new entry-level e-SUV with 355 km range

If everybody gets these small EV SUVs then the charging infrastructure is not there to accommodate the demand, we will be seeing longer queues than those at CNG pumps and not everybody can charge at home. In cities, high rise apartments are very common.

Even a 200 metre long charging station with multiple serving points will not be able to accommodate such massive charging demands.

Where is the space for long charging stations for 20+ cars in cities ?
