All-electric Mahindra Scorpio.e and Bolero.e in the works

Mahindra is reportedly planning to launch all-electric versions of the Scorpio and Bolero.

According to a media report, the electric SUVs could be called 'Scorpio.e' and 'Bolero.e'. Mahindra could swap out the ladder frame chassis for a modified version of the INGLO platform. Codenamed P1, it supports a wheelbase of 2,775 mm to 2,975 mm.

The report also sheds some light on the powertrain options, albeit unconfirmed. It is said that the Scorpio.e and Bolero.e could share the same battery and electric motors as the Thar.e concept and might offer a range of around 325-450 km on a single charge.

Mahindra has already announced that it plans to launch seven EVs in India by 2030. The Scorpio.e and Bolero.e might be among these besides Born EV models like the XUV.e8, XUV.e9 and BE.05.

Looks like Mahindra is getting their global ambitions ready.

All electrification and no hybrids whatsoever, might get them into a medium term rut.

But the right model to give the Chinese a good competition in USA and other markets.
(Chinese + Tariffs = Mahindra competitive prices)

Why?

They have a supposedly modern platform and they are going to plonk these decades old bodies onto it? Just to up the number of EV models launched tally?

Or is it the ScorpioN and next gen Bolero that they are talking about?

It has to be the Scorpio-N and Bolero Neo... or some variant of them. I don't think the ancient Bolero platform with its inefficient packaging and leafspring suspension can be modified to hold heavy battery packs. The Thar.e concept shown off last year also appeared to be a different platform from the current Thar. Considering the Scorpio-N shares it with the ICE Thar, we can expect the EV version to be based on that modified platform too.

The new electric G-wagen and Mercedes' bold claims about it being better off-road than a regular ol' G400d shows that EVs make an amazing case as off-road focused vehicles. Unlimited wading depth, torque on demand, and with the right configuration of motors, crab-walking and other crazy stunts that make them more capable than anything else. The only issue I can think of with these large off-road focused EVs is the weight. But this problem can be solved too, with better battery chemistries and cell materials, making lightweight EVs a real possibility.
