I think it's the very early stages of EV adoption, and we can continue with green number plates for EVs as of now. Once we have a substantial number of vehicles owned both privately and commercially, the government will have to consider differentiating number plates for them.

After you said it, I observed and that is right. But before knowing that it is yellow, I always thought it was white. Only when I saw the plates side by side, I realized the difference.

I like the idea of different coloured plates. However the green colour chosen and the combination with white and yellow looks ugly.

They could have chosen a different shade of green which gives higher contrast wrt white and yellow. Or like others have suggested to have flipped to green lettering on white background.

I have seen government vehicles with 'G' on the registration number.

e.g TN xx G 1234.

So why can't we consider 'EV' in the registration number like TN xx EV xxxx?

Anybody can add or change the badges. It is very commonplace. People replaced Swift VDi badge with VXi when Diesel 10 year rule came in NCR in starting. They may do it for snob value also.

It cannot be done with a number plate. Plus badging will never be standard across models and manufacturers. It will be a big problem with law enforcement.

Yep.

The White Digits with the Green Background is somewhat easier to read than the Yellow Digits on Green.

BTW Love my Green Number Plate..!!

Can definitely concur.
Realised this, when i had difficulty noting down the number of a rashly driven Tata Nexon EV during night, on my dashcams. I could clearly read License plates of all other vehicles (even smaller 2W license plates) but not that Nexon's. The rash driving made it difficult but still both the front and rear dashcam's (Both the camera's are 4K) could not be used to clearly identify all digit/alphabet.

Going off topic but I believe BH does not give EVs an exemption. And especially in Bombay where OTT is a flat ₹5000 for EVs, it makes no sense whatsoever. Tells you that the real reason people opt for BH plates.

Moving back to the topic at hand, think green EV plates have been a fantastic idea. Plenty of folks who would not be caught dead in a Tata Nexon ICE car have bought the Nexon EV. And seeing EVs on highways gave me the confidence to opt for one myself.
