Re: Mahindra XUV.e9 electric SUV spied. EDIT: XEV 9e Launched @ Rs. 21.90 lakh; BE 6e @ Rs. 18.90 la

My two cents after seeing all the Mahindra updates, as a Nexon EV Max owner:

1. TaMo has followed an incremental strategy with EVs, starting with the Nexon EV, built off the ICE platform (With a 30Kwh battery and superfast 25Kw fast charging, it feels so outdated in just a few years!)
2. Mahindra has skipped a generation (not out of choice, but the XUV400 being so off the mark) and headed straight to born electric. It has also skipped the <4m segment as well.
3. MG has taken the rebadged route.
4. Suzuki with its EVx is late to the party and may perhaps price itself out.

It only highlights the greenfield nature of the EV market - there are no off the beaten track approaches simply because there are no tried and tested paths either. It almost takes me back to the days of infancy of the smartphone market. It had everything from the Nokia E series Symbian phones to Blackberry to HTC (remember?) to Samsung Blackjack… And then the iPhone came along. And since then every phone looks the same. Moral of the story - enjoy the EV flourishes while it lasts. Once it gets mainstream, things will get boring

Well atleast they offer higher charging speed than even the 800V BYD Seal.

I think we all need to just take a step back, breathe and not carried out by the initial euphoria. Thats what this launch and even the cars are designed for. To create an impression!

Once the initial rush dies down, it will all come down to the regulat things that go into a car purchase. Practiality, fun to drive, reliability, price etc

The incredible price , the design, the mind boggling features, everything is to make news and waves and they have done it well.

For starters, the naming convention is just stupid. I have a hard time remembering which car is which.
The rear seat space doesn't look very impressive.
The designs are way too OTT.
The larger car is way too big for everyday use, 4.8 odd metres!

And I will be very very very wary of putting in so much money on so much technology from a first time manufacturer!

What do in case of a software failure?
Prospective customers - Be ready for R&Ds to be carried out on customer cars - To me these look to be botched up unfinished products. I love the design and I love the package. I love Mahindra being fearless. Would I put my middle class money on one - Thats another story.
Agree 200%. It has been almost 2 years since I got a ScorpioN, & Apple CarPlay Still glitches out regularly. The prospect of even more software dependency is downright scary.

I did not like the designs one bit. Never been a fan of the Coupe SUV concept, and both the recent launches (Curvv and these 2) are nowhere near the BMW X4/X6 in terms of looks - something just feels off.
Like the quoted review above, I see hints of the Cybertruck more than the Model Y. Weird alloy designs as well.

Re: Mahindra XUV.e9 electric SUV spied. EDIT: XEV 9e Launched @ Rs. 21.90 lakh; BE 6e @ Rs. 18.90 la

The BE 6e might not be the most comfortable family oriented car, it's persona is Sport, Rally, Thrill and the roll cage-ish wraparound center divider, pull-to-open door handles etc. all point to that. This will be a good car for the sporty hatch or sedan lover.

The XEV 9e looks a bit bloated but honestly hard to find any other fault with it because even as a SUV coupe it has acres of space inside, loads of tech, a huge boot, and will seat 5 very comfortably in luxury. I'd assume a lot of Creta, Seltos, and other crossover buyers will be interested in this.

Well done Mahindra EV. The first true indigenous born EVs for the mass market.

I'll wait the 7 seater XUV ish model. Looks proportionate and a bit toned down, from the Mahindra EV racing videos.

Re: Mahindra XUV.e9 electric SUV spied. EDIT: XEV 9e Launched @ Rs. 21.90 lakh; BE 6e @ Rs. 18.90 la

Some observations.

1. What I feel the biggest reason Curvv received a luke warm response is the back seat experience with little to no headroom. Whatever I have seen from the videos of both new Mahindras have the same problem.

2. While BE.6E is 4.3M car and XEV.9E is 4.7+M car, both have the same wheelbase of 2775, that means same interior space. Both of them have the very tight head room, but if one wants better headroom, then they can consider XEV.9E because the roofline extends bit longer than BE.6E. What is the point of bigger car with same interior space, but with a bigger boot, maybe I could be proven wrong.

3. While I see many are discussing the end of the road for TATA. But these cars even though are in the same league but will offer very different experiences. I am not saying which one is better, but both cater to different subset of people.

BE.6E vs Sierra - Because of its boxy shape, Sierra offers incredible space inside, while people who prefer performance might pick BE.6E.

Eturna (Harrier EV) vs XEV.9E - I have never seen anyone complaining about space inside Harrier and the same goes for Eturna. If somebody wants radical design, they might go for XEV while who prefer space and family oriented be interested in Eturna.

4. While radical designs look cool and hype is real, once the hype goes away rational mind kicks in (read home ministers) decisions get changes quickly and calculations happens till the last KM of range in value conscious country.

Re: Mahindra XUV.e9 electric SUV spied. EDIT: XEV 9e Launched @ Rs. 21.90 lakh; BE 6e @ Rs. 18.90 la

The coupe design has its own limitations. YouTube reviewers are not going to highlight any cons of BE 6E or XEV 9E. People who have been inside a coupe style sedan (previous gen Verna) or coupe SUV know the sloping roof limits the headroom for longer people.

BE 6E comes with black roof liner and the cabin could feel claustrophobic due to small front and rear window size. It would be good to provide roof liner in lighter color (like the one in XEV 9E or XUV700) to make cabin feel airy. Of course the panoramic sunroof will bring more light in, but during summers the liner would remain shut.
XEV 9E windows are decent sized in comparison and the cabin feels better in some videos.

The high shoulder line of rear window and sloping roof may not give a lot of outside view to shorter height people.

Just take a look at the similarities in rear window shape of BE 6E and Curvv. The rear window area of Curvv looks bigger and cabin feels airy due to lighter colored interior of Curvv.

I would still wait to see these cars in-person before taking a call to shift from XUV700/Scorpio-N to these.

Re: Mahindra XUV.e9 electric SUV spied. EDIT: XEV 9e Launched @ Rs. 21.90 lakh; BE 6e @ Rs. 18.90 la

From Mahindra’s perspective this is a very important event and they wowed everyone with the offerings. No car in India looks the the younger one BE6E. It’s sporty, stylish almost like a Dakar rally like sports car. The elder one XEV9E looks more like its predecessor XUV700 but with much flamboyance.

Few observations after watching many videos-

1. Both cars have lot of glossy plastics on the inside which makes them a fingerprint magnet.

2. Xuv700’s Adrenox has so many software issues and these cars are projected as SOW (Software on Wheels). I wonder what will happen to these.

3. Charge times shown were with 175kw chargers. Do we have these publicly in India? I doubt.

4. Design of both the cars is very polarising and bound to divide opinions. I like 9e’s design better compared to 6e’s which is full of cuts and creases.

Both of these look great and amazing. What we really need is something like a carnival, something in the 5m to 5.2m space with 3 rows, and luggage hauling and with a huge battery pack. Something that could do 550 kms on a single charge. That would be a brilliant combo for something around fortuner pricing.

The pricing essentially make nexon ev and windsor not at all VFM. MG should have bought windsor with a larger battery pack and L2 ADAS.

I may be onto nothing here but I felt like the steering wheel angle of the BE 6E is a lot lower than the normal (900°) from this video from PowerDrift. Comparing this to a LaFerrari whose steering wheel angle seemed to be around the 720° (as far as I can tell) seemed eerily similar?
Just wanted to share since I figured someone can correct me if I am wrong in sensing this.

Impressive designs, future looking EVs from MnM. Kudos to the India company to ride the EV wave the world is behind.
BUT
Will these EVs carry the umpteen initial niggles which almost all new products from MnM had, which usually take years to stabilize?
Will these EVs have 2+ year booking time, like xuv700s ?
Will the software which MnM developed, handle the true test of India roads?
Will the quality meet expectation, or rattles and loose ends surface as they start running in our streets?
What will be the real life range which can be expected?
And finally - will Indians adore these new style statements?

We need to wait and see, before we even think of writing off EVs from Tatas and Hyundais and proposed Marutis . Not including BYD and MG, as they seems to be in a different league and have enough ammunition to fight the battle.

Mahindra is doing a great job with the revolutionary specs and features. The power and range figures at the price range is almost unbelievable. I wish the design was a bit less "revolutionary ".

Re: Mahindra XUV.e9 electric SUV spied. EDIT: XEV 9e Launched @ Rs. 21.90 lakh; BE 6e @ Rs. 18.90 la

Probably the most critical review, but here goes!

The design to me looks horrendous . It seems to be from another planet and maybe that's where it belongs. Definitely not on Earth with that design.

Interiors look fit for a cinema theater than a automobile. Good to have popcorn and watch movies and let ADAS do the driving. Expect more idiots behind the wheels now.

MAIA? As if distractions on Indian roads were not enough! Good for time pass when stuck in Bengaluru traffic!

Brake by wire? I wouldn't touch this tech from Mahindra in the initial phase, unless it's a fancy term for having regen braking. Seems to be unnecessary over engineering. Last thing I want is unreliable brakes, given Mahindra's reliability in initial batches.

XeV9e and BE 6e? Good for code names, what the hell are they thinking when they decided to use this for production models? What's their next model? AlSi7v? EVs use a lot of Aluminum and Silicon, no?

While on spec the product looks fantastic and I am sure that there will be a beeline for this one from the Indian public, because hey, lot of features, "stand out" design and attractive prices! Also it's a Mahindra so Mera bharat mahan!

Personally, I won't touch those two with a 10 foot pole. They're not vehicles, but electronic gadget on wheels.

I was looking forward to Mahindra's new EVs to replace our 10 year old City, but now, my eyes are on eVX or Elevate EV (if that launches in the next 2 years) or maybe even a Tata. Not going anywhere near a Mahindra showroom for the foreseeable future , unless it's to shop for an ICE vehicle!
