Re: Mahindra XUV.e9 electric SUV spied. EDIT: XEV 9e Launched @ Rs. 21.90 lakh; BE 6e @ Rs. 18.90 la

Just seen this drifting video, while video is cool and drifting is done in controlled environment, I'm wondering if there will be some idiots misusing its power once it become a main stream car.
Given the heavy battery pack at floor, lower center of gravity and excellent drag co-efficient will make these cars awesome to drive, I guess.

From what I vaguely remember, suspensions might be one of the reasons behind patent claims. Are they home grown or that too is sourced from some external OEM vendor? And curious to know why they call it "semi"-active?

The lithium ion battery pricing for cars is approx $138 per kWh. Assuming 59kWh is the gross battery capacity, not the net capacity, Mahindra is spending $138*59 = $8142 or approx 7 lakh rupees for the battery alone. Remember they still have to pay for all the other vendors for motors, software, hardware, ADAS hardware and also build the thing and have some dealer margin in there and GST.

How are they making any money at 18.9 lakhs ex-showroom for BE.6e? I dont think this pricing is sustainable in the long run.
Battery prices are not that high anymore. LFP cell prices in China are down to RMB 410 per kWh ($56 or Rs 4,800 per kWh). So, a 59 kWh pack at the cell level costs less than Rs 3 lakhs. Even if we assume some higher prices, import costs, and pack costs, it will be between Rs 4 to 5 lakhs. So, the entire battery pack will be covered under GST benefit (5% vs 50%).

Mahindra sells the XUV700 base variant for Rs 14.5 lakhs. Out of this amount, their actual revenue per car is around Rs 9.7 lakhs due to 50% GST. If it had been an EV, their revenue for the same price would have been Rs 13.8 lakhs. They are selling the base BE 6e for Rs 19 lakhs. There will be more variants with the larger battery pack and features at higher prices. They will also increase prices over time based on demand.

Also, Mahindra is targeting higher volumes from the beginning. So, they will get much better prices from the suppliers. Their initial production capacity itself is very high (90K per month) and it will be doubled in another year.

Exactly. These designs look to be a take on some pre conceived notion of what the future looks like. It only took 10 mins for me to get sick of looking at the photos.

The apparent lack of body roll is quite amazing. I hope Mahindra has given reasonably soft suspension for our roads.

Is it just me or is there anyone else who feels the design is a bit ungainly and weird. The Black wheel arches make it look bad - the gap in the wheel wells appears to be too big and hence the awkward stance from the side profiles. Dont even get me started on the practicality, or the lack of it - in the boot area. The rear looks too plain as well. Cars are turning into tech toys and Im not sure how much reliability one can expect from these gizmos on wheels. Im not in the market for any vehicle now, so all this feels too gimmicky and blingy in my opinion. Clearly a lifestyle vehicle.

If I were on the lookout for any such car today, I would definitely wait out for first year and ensure all the early adopters would help as beta testers and iron out the niggles and pain points on a new launch.

However its good to see the landscape evolving and competition heating up. Will be an interesting scenario over the next 3-5 year period. Good time to wait and watch.

You are not the only one. I found the spy shots of the new amaze to be some kind of antidote for my eyes after looking at these two cars.

What will be a comparable car in terms of interior space for 6E? Nexon or Creta?

Re: Mahindra XUV.e9 electric SUV spied. EDIT: XEV 9e Launched @ Rs. 21.90 lakh; BE 6e @ Rs. 18.90 la

Hi All - I had a lengthy chat with one of the guy from Automotive Mahindra - Ranigunj (Hyderabad) this morning. He said that he is from Mahindra and working from this dealer's premises. This is the summary of my discussion

1 - Apparently Mahindra has asked dealers to setup exclusive showrooms for EVs. Automotive Mahindra - Hyderabad seems to have identified couple of places already in city and these exclusive showrooms will be open before Demo cars reach dealerships.

2. Exclusive sales and marketing teams are already identified for EVs (infact my contact information was given to this guy by their regular sales manager) and only these teams will interact with EV customers.

3. Teams are travelling to Chennai tomorrow for training and they will be back after few more days after undergoing the training on product (hopefully some details will be revealed on variants/pricing)

4. As i recently sold my XUV 700 AX7 D AT and looking for a new car at the moment, i have shown my interest on BE 6e (in Red) and asked him to give priority for me if at all i decide (after looking at the car in flesh) to go ahead with car purchase. I anyway decided to book the car on first day (as i did with XUV700). He promised to shared more details upon his return from Chennai.

I will post more details as and when they reach me.

P.S. I made couple of bookings last month including MG Windsor and Tata Nexon and now cancelled both bookings.

I say we do not jump the gun here. We should see what other players bring to compete with Mahindra and by that time Mahindra should be able to rectify all the issues pointed out by 'beta testers'. Wait-n-win for us customers.

Highly respect Mahindra and the cars they are making. I have also no doubt that these would be the amongst the best EVs available when they go on sale in the next couple of months. But don't see myself considering buying them because of those monstrous looking front ends. Apart from that, just blown away by the effort.

I believe there is a facelift being tested. There were some spy shots from Oct 2024

Looking at the wheelbase figure, it could be closer to Tucson than it is to the Creta.

Windsor (similar in size to Kushaq but much more spacious) has already shown us how spacious Born EVs can be compared to similarly sized ICE cars.
