With the real deliveries about 4 months away, I don't think Mahindra reveal all their cards at once. Nor were we expecting a full price reveal now. I expect they might release the trim levels by Bharat Mobility Expo and the prices sometime after that.

The base price reveal would keep the buzz around.

And if one isn't looking at a Mahindra, we can potentially expect other OEMs to bite and offer price cuts.

I am a simple man. I see RWD, and I ask: will it drift? And having just heard someone say “BE 6E” out loud, I will be very disappointed if it doesn’t.

re: Mahindra XUV.e9 electric SUV spied. EDIT: XEV 9e Launched @ Rs. 21.90 lakh; BE 6e @ Rs. 18.90 lakh

The EV Arms race (Power, Price and Features) seems to have finally started in India! Really looking forward to the next 12-24 months' action.

Bit confused on the power-performance claims, though. 0-100 kph of 6.7 sec for a 282 bhp RWD BE 6e seems at odds with 7.3 sec for a 201 bhp FWD Atto 3. Not sure about the torque on the 282 bhp variant

3 possibilities I can imagine to explain this-
1. The quoted figures are for the lower powered 59 KWh variant (Hopefully this is the case)
2. The BE 6e is much heavier than the BYD.
3. The torque for the higher variant is not the initial 553 Nm that was being quoted in the media.

Would be great if anyone can shed light on this.

Overall 2025-26 will be a great time to be buying an EV in India

Overall, it has an edgy design and would be a hit among youngsters.

What caught my attention were the three screens on the dashboard. What's next?
I hope the leftmost screen is not for the driver, as he would have to take his eyes off the road.

They could have added a couple more screens at the back, maybe for rear passengers' entertainment.

Fantastic products and truly world-class.

Mahindra Electric website is live and XEV is advertised to have a Level 2+ ADAS system and a driver monitoring system. L2+ is where the driver can take their hands-off in a particular section of the road. (Google Ford BlueCruise to know more)

Mobileye's portfolio includes their REM map which is an enabler for most L2+ systems in the road in the international markets.

My theory is that L2+ could be offered in select access-controlled highways in India and by doing so, M&M would be the first to offer such a system in India.

This is just a guess.

Anyone else notice the old 80s “Boom Boom” song derived from a Nazia Hassan song? Wonder if they acquired the rights. Whiff of nostalgia indeed.

Hope it’s not too off topic for the mods.

Whoa , what a superb launch , the Harrier EV has its work cut out now. Mahindra has captured the entire EV space with this.

Although on side note , I must say that I am sad how cars feel like gadgets nowadays , especially this launch. That raw feel is no where to be found.

Such cars are great but I am not sure if I'll be able to have an emotional bond with a gadget like this EV like I have with my other ICE cars

Tata EV are fairly priced? Over time, Mahindra and MG have launched cars with bigger batteries, faster charging, and more features at lower prices. They are also bigger cars with more interior space and more reliable.

90% of Tata sales are coming from <4m cars. It's much worse than Maruti. Mahindra is outselling the Tata's in >4m SUVs by a huge margin. The same thing will happen in EVs in the future if Tata continues with mediocre products (slow DC charging, unreliable) and optimistic pricing.
This was the comment I made just 4 months back regarding the high pricing and underwhelming EV specs (small batteries, slow charging, etc...) of TATA EVs. Today's release confirms my expectations for 2-3 years. Tata sales are insignificant in 4m+ segments in the ICE market. Now, the same thing will happen in the EV market.

Impact on different companies and segments with this launch:
  • TATA: The most affected company with this launch will be TATA. Nexon and Currv EV sales will be decline very fast from now on. Nexon sales have already been down for the last 1.5 years, now they will be irrelevant. October deliveries will be the highest for Currv EV.
  • MG: Windsor was priced decently but with this launch, many people will cancel and go for BE 6e. If MG had launched 50kWh variant, it would have been priced around 17 to 18 lakhs. The BE 6e has a much bigger battery/range, all the necessary features, better performance, much faster DC and AC charging, RWD, and frunk for 19 lakhs. By the way, this is the same price ZS EV with 50 kWh battery. Both these models will be affected in the near term, especially ZS EV. MG will be forced to reduce Windsor prices over time and bring the ZS EV successor at similar prices as BE 6e. Good thing is they already have these models ready and need to bring them here at competitive prices to survive.
  • Maruti Suzuki: They have to price eVitara with 49kWh at around Rs 15 lakhs and 61kWh at Rs 18 lakhs.
  • Hyundai: Creta EV is expected to have a 45kWh battery. Pricing should be less than Rs 15 lakhs.
  • BYD:They can easily compete with Mahindra, but for that, they need to start manufacturing locally. With current pricing, Atto 3 numbers will decrease drastically.

With this pricing, all the popular ICE mid SUVs like Creta, Seltos, etc... will be affected. BE 6e pack one on-road pricing in states with no road tax for EVs is closer to entry-level automatic variants of Creta and Seltos. For almost the same price, you are getting an RWD EV with a good range and more features. Hopefully, these EVs are reliable.

To me BE 6E design looks much better. 9E's DRL shape is off-putting and so is the three screen setup of 9E. Pricing is great and is going to give sleepless nights to BYD, MG and Tata. Atto 3 suddenly feels much overpriced now.

2025 is going to be great I guess because manufacturers like MG would be upping their games too.

Come on Mahindra now launch a 7 seater BE.

MG will start getting Baojun, Wuling and native MG vehicles of the parent SAIC. They have vehicles with all sizes and battery options to match Mahindra. SAIC vehicles have very little niggles.

MG BORN only vehicles worldwide are now getting a life time warranty. So the same will be arriving here.
Hold on mate!! let the 1st product come out on road! even that is 4+ months away.

Amazing, You have to stand back and applause for Mahindra.
Bold designs, bold steps by and Indian manufacturer, they are pushing the envelope and may I say might be ahead in terms of VFM from global competitors.

I feel they should have priced the Be6e a bit higher.

The only good thing I can see was that the floor is probably not raised at the back like the Maruti eVX and the under-thigh support looks good.

I'm not a fan of the coupe design, as space will be limited. Electric cars should come in SUV body style. Maybe then, people will buy them.

The hardware specs as always are fantastic and to global standards (as is the case with their ICE powertrains) and so is the pricing. But the styling.. Too much too soon..

1. Swirls and scratches on the piano black cladding all over already - poor choice of material

2. Ill fitting panels and inconsistent panel gaps typical of Mahindra will stick out like a sore thumb on these radical designs, if they dont get tolerances right. They will look like regular cars "transformed" using fiberglass if you know what I mean..

3. With cars this large and with a crossover form factor, it should be relatively easy to achieve styling goals (especially proportions) and packaging but somehow Mahindra's designs end up looking like they have a lot of "afterthoughty" elements.

4. The interior of the 9e is a joke.. I mean come on..

I am sure the designs will grow on us eventually.

I can’t believe they didn’t put in the “fake engine noise” feature that all the cool and 6E EVs come with. Maybe they had a meeting and some bright spark said it should be the engine noise of one of our legacy cars, and then everyone thought of the Thar DI and changed the topic.
