After having driven the AWD variant with the FSD semi-adaptive suspension, I feel low GC is a non-issue. Whether it be the M340i or the Seal, the underbodies are solidly designed for scrapes and hits. Their suspension setups are also stiff enough to stop sagging. Do the crabwalk across ugly speedbreakers and you’re set!

Just go ahead and get one but mind any price adjustments which may come up.

Re: BYD Seal Review

Recently took a test of the BYD in Bangalore. They had only the Premium variant for test drive, and my two bits:

> The car looks very sleek and loved it's looks;
> Performance of the Premium variant itself was very impressive. The Performance variant will be crazy;
> While I liked the interiors, not sure if the quality is as good as the initial impression. For example, the plastic behind the front door handle looked a bit cheap. A little more time with the car is necessary for a proper assessment.
> Thought the instrument panel is little busy and cluttered. Maybe there are options to customise it for a cleaner interface. But it felt a bit unpolished, like using a cheap Chinese cell phone, in comparison to an Apple or Samsung.
> While the ground clearance looks low, I did not have any issues during my test drive.

Is it simply being hopeful to expect any price drop from this level? Unless you mean price can go up too by adjustments.

Re: BYD Seal Review

Hey everyone,

Got my Seal last Sunday. It's been 10 days of owner ship and I cant contain my excitement to share with you all. It's a new model and definitely turning heads on the road with its sharp design.

Here's a quick breakdown of my initial impressions:

- Head-Turning Looks & Safety First: This car is definitely a looker! However, coming from a Honda City, it took me some time to get used to its length, especially in narrow parking spots. The car is much longer and wider.

- Safety is a priority for me, and this car comes loaded with 9 airbags and a bunch of safety tech. Feels good knowing I'm well protected.

- Joyful Experience: Every time I step inside the car, it brings a big smile to my face. It's been only 10 days, including a weekend, and I'm already loving it.

- A Quiet, Powerful Ride

- This EV is silent but super quick! There's ample power whenever I need it, and the acceleration is smooth.

- The ride is surprisingly comfortable despite the low ground clearance on paper. I've driven 800 km across NCR, and it has managed bumps and tough roads well, though I am always careful and slow on bad patches.

Cruising at 150 kmph feels like 60 in a regular car because of how quiet it is. No engine noise or vibrations! Love seeing even ICE beasts in my rearview mirror.

- Tech & Usability: The car is loaded with all the latest tech features, including a fantastic 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system (though not quite as good as the B&O in the Audi A4 I considered).

- The cabin is very quiet, and the external noise cancellation is excellent.

- The infotainment system is great, with everything at your fingertips. I did turn off the ADAS features though, as they can be a little intrusive on our roads.

A Few Downsides

- Getting in and out (ingress/egress) can be a bit challenging for older folks due to the lower ride height.

- The rear window is a bit narrow, which can affect visibility for some people. However, the car has excellent 360-degree cameras that you can activate on the steering wheel and display on the big screen to help with maneuvering.

Updates and Improvements:
- After the latest update, there have been positive changes in the features.
- Wireless Apple CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is now wireless.
- Drive Settings: Once set, drive settings don't need to be revised every time you start the car. Previously, you had to turn off ADAS or other features you didn't need, each time. (no more needing to turn off ADAS every time!).
- Fast Charging: The car charges quickly. I tested the speed and went from 82% to 100% in 9 minutes using an Indus Charger.

Overall, I'm Loving It!

I'm absolutely thrilled with this Car. Despite some skepticism from friends and family about spending 50L on a new brand in India like BYD and not an ICE, I love every bit of it.

The driving experience is fantastic, it gets a ton of attention, and the looks are just killer!

Attaching some pics from Day 1.

Congratulations! I am expecting mine in the same colour in the coming days. Would love to know about your delivery experience, the variant you picked and any pre-delivery inspection?

Also, did you take the insurance yourself or went with the dealer? I see an additional charge of 40k for documents, is that mandatory?

Cheers!

Congratulations to you as well.
Mine is Premium version.

The delivery experience for me was average. That was due to the person who was supposed to take the delivery of his car in the morning. He showed up late which led to delays in all other things. I had to wait for an hour before my car was handed over. I wouldn't blame it on the dealership.

For PDI, thankfully, the dealer will do that for you while accepting the imported car from Chennai. For your own satisfaction, take a printout of PDI checklist and tick all the required checkpoints.

40k is levied as logistics charges, which is applicable across all OEMs. this is reasonable considering the cost of the car. for similarly priced vehicles, i have observed much higher charges. Insurance was arranged by the dealership but they let me negotiate with the iinsurance provider which bought the cost down by 26k.

Hope that helps and happy Motoring!!

Re: BYD Seal Review

Congratulations Mani. Dealers are whatsapping your reviews to potential buyers. .

Couple of questions.

1. Dealer is saying that there is EV subsidy to the tune of RS 6 lakhs in Haryana. Did you apply for it and did you get it.
2. Is it ok to ask which insurance provide and how much it costed. They are suggesting Rs 1.4 lakhs. United one is cheaper but it seems it does not explicit cover battery in their insurance cover.

I am due to take delivery in 10 days and glad to see your reviews.

1. There is a subsidy worth 15% of Ex-showroom price in Haryana, for privately owned vehicles. I haven't applied for it yet. It can only be applied once you get a permanent Number plate.

2. Insurance costed 1.26L which covered everything including battery via United India Insurance. But you're free to choose any other service provider and Dealer wont object. I got the insurance done not through the dealer but someone else.

Congratulations to you for your upcoming Seal, I am sure you'll have an amazing experience.

There was a tear down of a BYD by an investment bank last year and they found the quality to be superb. I think they will remain market leaders for a long time.

Re: BYD Seal Review

Test drove the BYD Seal on Saturday. What an absolutely brilliant car!

Some observations:
  • Interior fit/finish are on point. Feels better than <INR 70 lacs Audis, equivalent to BMWs, and just a little behind Mercedes cars.
  • Overall design is very sports-car like. During my TD, almost everyone stopped to take a second look.
  • Even in Mumbai heat/humidity with the sun blaring down, the tinted moonroof did a good job in keeping the sun out. North India with 40+ degree weather may be a different beast and one may need to put on the moonroof cover for long distance drives.
  • The Performance variant was a little scary to drive in the lanes of Hiranandani Powai, Mumbai. It accelerates so fast.
  • Speed bumps will be a problem. I crossed a normal-sized speed bump at 15 kmph, and the underbody scraped the ground. Below 10 kmph, didn't find this issue even with gigantic speedbumps on Hiranandani Link Road (or most popularly known as the worst road on Planet Earth).
  • The SA mentioned that we can buy an additional underbody protection plate for ~INR 20K to ensure even further protection against damage to the chasis/battery in case of scrapes.
  • The range on the Performance variant was ~500KM (50% battery down at ~250KM). Truly amazing, given that people abuse cars during TDs.
  • The mid-variant is the one to buy, 0-100 in 5.8s and additional 70-80KM range. But it doesn't come with FSD suspension that the top end variant does.
  • If I decide to upgrade from my Civic, I'll still go with the GLA (X1 FWD is a joke). I often travel to a small place I have near Palghar, and the Seal will not be able to cope with the rural roads.

Re: BYD Seal Review

Finally got my hands on my BYD Seal Premium this Sunday. The car everything I expected and drives like a dream. Still to hit a speed bump in Noida and Delhi, so hoping the GC wouldn't be much of any issue going forward.

A few points:
1) The car does not have e-sim/physical sim capabilities yet (others geographies have it), as there's some issue at govt. clearance levels. So, you're bound by your mobile hotspot or WiFi. I can't seem to get the get the captive map app to work or even connect spotify for some reason. Also, hoping shall get the firmware upgrade soon for the wireless CarPlay.

2) The BYD app for remote operating the car is not available in India. I downloaded one off the net, but it doesn't let me sign up as India as a country option is missing. The service staff though largely clueless about firmware upgrades, e-Sim, etc. said its coming in a couple of weeks, but I doubt it.

3) I got a BYD original dashcam from TOPBYD, its an easy and straightforward install with not wire-cuts or anything needed, but the service guys refused to install it and warned me that it would void warranty. I have a feeling they would be launcing accessories soon and maybe price the dashcam for 25k and then be ok with it. I got it for a measly 5k.

Congratulations! This is a dream car for me at the moment. Does wired Carplay / Android auto work?

I drive an MG ZS and none of the above two points are an issue, even though MG is a Chinese company. Government restrictions seem to become a lot less strict if you have a proper Indian partner.

Looks like JSW's partnership has effectively made MG on par with the other car companies here. I wonder why BYD hasn't found a good Indian partner yet.
