Electric Range Rover Velar spied with a radical new design for the first time

JLR recently announced that its first EV, after its brand restructure, would come in the form of an electric Range Rover. The British marque has already started pre-bookings, ahead of its scheduled global unveil in the coming months. The electric Range Rover will be the brand's flagship EV model. However, apart from the teaser images, no details have been revealed.

Ahead of JLR's first EV unveil, the carmaker seems to be preparing its second electric offering already. As per reports, images of what reportedly is the electric successor of the Range Rover Velar have leaked online. The spy images show the electric Velar undergoing testing, covered under heavy camouflage. Having said that, the spy images do showcase the upcoming electric Velar SUV featuring a radically different design, compared to its current ICE counterpart.

The images showcase a very sleek-looking SUV with a lowered suspension setup, a high window line and a sloping roofline, compared to the outgoing model. The electric Range Rover Velar is said to be one of three SUVs to be based on JLR's new EMA platform.

Reports also suggest that the electric Velar could be unveiled very soon and is even expected to enter production later this year. This is because the current iteration was launched in 2017 and is nearing the end of its lifecycle.

Considering JLR plans to become a more upmarket brand, expect the electric Velar to come packed with luxury features and tech. Also, with Jaguar, Discovery, Defender and Range Rover - all being separated into distinct brands, the upcoming Velar could help Range Rover carve out its own design language.
