2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 globally unveiled

Hyundai has globally unveiled the Ioniq 5 facelift. The facelift has also brought the N Line version, which sits below the Ioniq 5 N. It gets mild styling tweaks as part of the refresh. Exterior updates include slightly redesigned LED DRLs, digital ORVMs, rear wiper, new aero optimised 20-inch alloy wheels, a 50mm longer rear spoiler and updated bumpers, which have increased the overall length by 20mm.

On the inside, Hyundai has replaced the all white interior with a black+white combination. The steering wheel, which was a two-spoke unit, now gets a third spoke. Physical buttons have been added too. Also new are the screens on either side in place of ORVMs.

Hyundai claims to have improved the chassis for better structural rigidity. Safety features like Hands-On Detection (HOD) steering wheel, Lane Keeping Assist 2, Remote Smart Parking Assist 2, and Forward/Side/Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist have been added. Other features include Front-Lighting System, Digital Key, Built-In Cam and second-row seat remote folding.

The battery capacity of the Ioniq 5 has been bumped up from 77.4 kWh to 84 kWh. Updated power and range figures haven’t been revealed.

In India, the outgoing model has a claimed range of 631 km. The electric motor powers the rear wheels and produces 170 PS and 350 Nm of torque.

Re: 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 globally unveiled

I love the present gen Ioniq5 looks. The present gen alloys are better looking. I wish they would give the consumer an option to pick which alloys he/ she wants. I’m not sure I would want cameras in place of my ORVM’s. However the idea of black and white interiors makes sense because the white Interiors of the first gen, were real dirt magnets especially in our conditions of high dust and pollution. It will be nice to know what increased range the 84 kwh battery will give. The car already costs 49.85 lacs in Bangalore on Road. I wonder if the GOK decides to add EV’s to the Road Tax Regime, these cars will all hit 85-90 lacs!

I agree .

Updating a car within 3-4 years of launch is something every OEM resorts to, and for good reason. However, in my opinion, there are certain cars whose design need not be updated with a facelift. I would be a happy lad if Hyundai sells the Ioniq 5 with the same design for 10 years. The Ioniq 5 looks fantastic thanks to its retro neo take, and this is a sentiment which many have echoed. When you play around with something which has been well received, there is a huge scope to go wrong. Thankfully, Hyundai seems to understand this, which explains the minimal visual updates - just enough to keep the car fresh. As you said, the only place Hyundai has goofed up is in the wheel design; it now slightly resembles that of the Nexon. But that could be partly because the older alloy wheel design set a high standard.

I can't imagine what a next generation Ioniq 5 could look like; but I could come up with a thousand ways to design a facelift for the Verna. Goes on to show the charm of timeless designs

Totally agree. Dont see any value in this....just increased cost with more cameras and screens. We have enough screens in today's cars and now they add 2 more!!

Otherwise the car is one hell of a looker. Always turns heads when on the road.

Re: 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 globally unveiled

Ioniq 5 in India gets the 72kWh battery, the 2023 models sold else where in the world got a 77kWh battery, the same one as the Kia EV6.
Now they have bumped that to 84kWh for this new 2024 version, which is 20% higher capacity then the one sold in India.

Sadly in India just like the Kona we will be getting outdated versions.

There are no extra screens involved. MID itself shows the ORVM feed when turn indicators are operated. The view is wide and is extremely useful.
Just like any other piece of convenience technology, once you get used to its usefulness there’s no turning back.

This is definitely appealing. The India spec version ships with 72.6 kWh battery, probably to reduce the cannibalization of its CBU cousin which ships with the 77.4 kWh battery and a steep price tag. Ioniq 5 would be an appealing buy if it ships with the 84 kWh battery in India. However, I would dread having those camera-based side mirrors in our roads.

I think you're talking about the blind view camera which is located below the ORVM in some cars. In this case, the ORVMs have been replaced by cameras altogether.

Re: 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 globally unveiled

Hyundai is gonna have a hard time selling the present-gen ioniq in India if they dont bring the update here soon. Already selling a version thats one gen older and, with BYD Seal, I imagine the sales will take a bit of a hit.

Sincerely hoping they facelift does not ship with the rims in the picture above, its ugly. The current ones look very elegant. Also, I hoping they give us the 84 Kwh batter.

The XRT is the second specialized trim to join the Ioniq 5 lineup, following the high-performance Ioniq 5 N. Hyundai's given the car a 0.9-inch suspension lift, unique suspension tuning, and 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. There's no word on any extra underbody protection, though considering the floor-mounted battery, it's likely the standard car's shielding will suffice for any light excursions owners may take.

Outside you'll find unique front and rear bumpers covered in "digital camouflage" cladding. The XRT gets two unique color options: Ultimate Red and Cosmic Blue Pearl. There's also a pair of red-painted tow hooks up front that Hyundai says can pull up to 5,834 pounds in a pinch. The company also published approach and departure angles of 19.8 degrees and 30.0 degrees, respectively. That's 2.3 degrees and 4.6 degrees better than the standard car. Other changes include specific badging, black mirror caps, all-weather floor mats, and a different upholstery for the seats.

The XRT model gets the bigger battery and dual-motor AWD as standard, which makes sense considering its off-roading aspirations. Hyundai doesn't mention power for any new Ioniq trim.

The next biggest change to the Ioniq 5 range is a new NACS-style charging port, like you'd find on a Tesla. The port means access to all of Tesla's 17,000+ Supercharger stations, effectively doubling the amount of DC fast chargers available to Ioniq 5 owners. Hyundai says it'll also include a CCS adapter for every car, so you don't have to worry about missing out on a charger if the plug doesn't match your car.
